I've seen it a couple of times. The original shortcut was probably on the public desktop, and if you make a copy, the copy winds up on yours, probably because you don't have permission to write to the public one.

Status: I really hate the state of OpenSourcy documentation sometimes. So, while I got Mapnik going (and also got it to actually show map tiles through the browser), I also wanted a way to get the current screen and export that as an SVG.
That's where the fun started.
According to the documentation, the best bet for this would be to use Python. The "tutorial" detailing on how to render a map slice then does all sorts of magic shit, never really telling why all those commands are necessary (or what you're doing with those. Layers, shapes, mapfiles, argh. There's no documentation for basic concepts anywhere). And the Python API documentation for this library simply is a list of the C++ functions which are called with C++ parameters.
Also, my map data has been imported in a PostgreSQL PostGIS database (so it can be easily updated).
The only problem: The tutorials all want you to use XML files wherein the data resides. Well, there's the partial documentation of how to get your Python script to talk to the database. Only that one of the parameters is
table_name
and there are five of them, all equally important judging from their names (why, yes, I wanted the map to include more than merely the outlines of countries, thank you for asking!).Also: The "Further Reading" parts of the documentation are either chock full of 404s or self-referential, i.e. leading back to the document I came from.
Of course, there were other people equally confused as I were. They also asked questions. All of which were answered by: "Yes, instead of using XML files, you can also talk to the db."
Not one of those asshats actually explained how to do that.
After several hours of cursing those morons up to their 7th generation, I found a python script someone had left on Github. That one worked out of the box, I have no idea why (nowhere did I pass info on how to talk to the db) and I also don't want to know why anymore.
Fuckers.

See, that's what happens when you have a conference call with aliens instead of shooting them like any other sensible person would.

Also: Upon a closer look on the XML files included, I can only conclude that there are major involved.
I'm seeing if-else-statements in there and also SQL queries.

@Rhywden GIS software is generally a fucking shitshow unless you give Esri a billion dollars.
And then it's a really shiny shitshow.
-
@Weng Good thing that it's working now and I don't really have to touch it again.
Though it was a bit of fun to see this:
sudo apt-get install mapnik
This will install 15 packages for 50 MB of disk space, ok?
sudo apt-get install python-mapnik-bindings
This will install a metric shitton of packages for 500 MB of disk space.

@Cursorkeys What's the confusion?
The Desktop is a combination of the icons from the All Users Desktop and from your personal user account's Desktop, so it's quite possible and not even weird to have duplicate icons there.
That just means at one point WinSCP was installed for All Users, and another another point it was installed for just the current user.

Do you recall having a blueish-green avatar that may or may not have had a flag of some kind on it? That's the best I remember, unfortunately NodeBB doesn't have a "export all your posts" so I can't find the discussion because Google Search.

I'm sure that's what happened, I probably upgraded it and selected different install scopes each install for some reason.
The confusion is just that duplicate file names in a folder is generally prohibited. I guess the desktop is special but I still think it should be suppressed. If nothing else it just looks weird (to me).

@Robin said in "RE: Requirements Document":
The other issue is that the column width isn’t formatted to autofit the correct width for the information included in the cell.
Because computers care about the visual width of the colum when processing data...
Wait, you're handling these things manually?!?! Why is this called "Automatic" then?!?!? FFS....
One issue we see is some cells that contain numbers are coming over formatted as text.
Um, yeah, that's because they're not numbers being calculated upon. They're things like Account Numbers, which frequently have zeros in front, and I bet half of a ball that you'd complain if we had it format numbers as numbers and saw the missing zeros!
Okay, so I didn't put these responses in a reply, and I'm not sure if I should be glad I didn't:
@Liason replied:
Well, the person I spoke with explained that the entire content of any given cell is not always viewable. I asked if these files were processed manually or uploaded into an application or data base. She said “both?” I explained how with a few clicks she could auto fit an entire worksheet to easily read. Her response was that it would be nice if the file came over viewable.
It almost sounds like they're taking the file and going over each record line by line and hand-entering in the data into the database. Correct me if I'm wrong?
Status: seeing if adding column-type detection to my dynamic table creation script will harshly reduce the size allowable (It's already mandated the SQL script be less than 3000 bytes due to SSIS being idiotic)...

Race condition, maybe? Dunno, mental juices weren't flowing at full capacity (and still aren't) at that time.
The command buffer is known to be thread-unsafe, but usually the processing queue is fast enough not to matter too much.Well, my performance doing things like DDR and Rock Band would beg the differ, but typical operating circumstances don't involve a whole lot of simultaneous realtime multitasking, do they?
