@Tsaukpaetra Right. If your indexes were shitty enough to affect performance, SQL Server would've already recompiled it anyway.
-
Status: Nice.
In other news, seems like all our browsers finally decided to dump on out Lotus Notes web server's lack of security:
Well done!

@Tsaukpaetra
A process had 27017 sockets open at once? Really? Unless we have vastly more users than I think we do, that's a big indicator of something horrible inAlso, spewing that sort of thing at a user is but I sort of expect that sort of thing. Lots of programmers can't seem to separate “something went wrong” from “push it in the users' faces”.

Laughing my ass off to this ...

Is that a joke?
wtdwtf-mongo:27017
is the address of our MongoDB server.

You're in luck!

@ben_lubar I was using the site, pressed the go to bottom button, and nothing happened. I refreshed, and the site churned furiously. I refreshed again after a bit, and it loaded like that. I refreshed again, and it worked.
-
@Magus ok it seems we have a crash in the notification sending code.
Fixed there, but I haven't applied updates for a while. Gonna do that now.

<_<Maybe. Or maybe I was just misreading the message. You'll never know for sure!

@anonymous234 I'm like this except for the productive 10pm part. It's low energy the entire day for me.

@ben_lubar That's probably the most appropriate name a mongo db instance could have.

Considering it's for the wtdwtf forums, I would think so!
-
@Tsaukpaetra I was thinking more in the sense that mongodb is a wtf itself, or that it provides daily wtfs. In a site for daily wtfs. Its WTFs all the way down.
-
@blakeyrat They look familar, but I can't place them. I keep thinking that they are from Schlock Mercenary, but if so then it presumably must be fanart since to the best of my knowledge Howard Taylor doesn't work in 3D modeling (he might, but I've never heard of him doing any).
-
@ScholRLEA Too bad you can't plug that quote into Google to find out where it comes from.
-
OK, I failed a spot check - I didn't even notice the text at the bottom, which is why I could figure out why that picture was there in the first place, I guess. And missing that it was from Men in Black is just embarrassing.
Gimme my whoosh and get on with it already. I've made enough of a fool of myself tonight.

@lucas1 So true.

Well considering the automobile work tonight was RIP FUCKING EVERYTHING OUT HOLYSHIT...
Yeah, tomorrow's gonna be fun. Time to rewire all my in-car electronics (two of these, some emergency lights, and a controller box), this time with 1000% more fuses.

Worst part is that the original short managed to melt the coating on the + and - lines, allowing them to fuse together to SHORT MOAR.
I had to go and rip the controller box out so I could pull the power. Then rip everything out of the battery with prejudice. In the middle of the road.

Wow, not fun!
WTF with your fuses though? That's like, the last line of defense!

Well, initial synopsis indicates the voltmeter shorted out. It did it before (the line was fused(?)) and I tried to seperate the lines and wrap everything in a fuckton of electrical tape.
Turns out that didn't work. And the in line wasn't fused now? Idk. Too tired to really figure out what happened. I know it's safe though because I removed fucking everything that might have any connection to any power.

Unless the fuse shorted.
Which it did.
Fuck.

There are help requests regarding unclean VS re-installation about once in a fortnight. I guess it's understandable for people to get it starred.

@cheong The correct way to uninstall Visual studio is to reinstall Windows.

you got some recommendations for android?
-
@cartman82 I use Tweecha, have used Plume in the past.
I don't tend to use the widgets, so couldn't tell you how useful they are. Both apps have a lot of customisation that lets you reverse a lot of the stupid design decisions Twitter has made.
Plume is ad supported with a premium version that removes ads. Tweecha has a free version that lets you turn ads on and get premium features, or buy a paid version

Yes. Drop Twitter. It's a silly place.

snapchat has more active users than twitter.
i don't understand snapchat, nor twitter..... seriously, what's the point?
whatever, either way, apparently they're in the same market more or less.... and for snapchat to have more active accounts i think means that they are winning?
yeah. more = winning..... unless we're talking golf scores......

we should all move to Camelot then ...
-
@aliceif Have you ever known anyone who is a regular poster on a webforum who doesn't solicit uninformed opinions about every subject except the ones they actually know?
On a more serious note, basically, Snapchat (as far as I understand it, I don't use it myself so I could be wrong) is a way to send pictures for one-time viewing - the recipients only get to look at it once, and the pic is deleted once the last recipient has seen it. This is meant to enhance privacy, but the real upshot of it is that almost everyone who uses it regularly has gotten into the habit of screenshotting the pictures as soon as they receive them, which rather defeats the purpose (and has led to huge numbers of arrests as the pictures the people thought were gone keep reappearing and getting into the hands of the police). See the TomoNews list of teachers who got caught giving unusually private lessons that I mentioned in the Bad Ideas Thread for several examples of this.
Twitter, meanwhile, is basically a broadcast instant messaging service with a cripplingly short message buffer (140 bytes - not characters, as most people say it, but bytes, which sucks if you aren't using ASCII-page characters). The idea is that it is an easy way to tell anyone who subscribes to your feed where you are, how much cash you are carrying, what video you just watched, what you had for lunch, what color the poo you just took was, and a lot of other things no one really cares about (as well as plenty of details that a thief or stalker would want to hear about).
Occasionally some information is sent through it by mistake, but aside from posting absurdly intimate details about your own life, it is mostly used for trolling people, because you can loop someone into your post just by using their at-name, if you know it (or look it up, though you can easily get the wrong one by mistake that way). Thus, if you want to say something catty about, say, Lil' Kim, all you need to do is add @stupidhoe to the post (assuming that that is her Twitter name, which it isn't - someone else actually chose to use it, which tells you most of what you really need to know about the sorts of people on Twitter).
-
@aliceif said in The Official Status Thread:
Then why do you give an unqualified opinion about them?
because i do know which one has more active users.
i made no claim other than snapchat having more active users than twitter, and that they reportedly serve similar markets, and asserted that that means it's winning.
i don't need to know what they are to make that assertion.
-
@ScholRLEA What about the difference in terms of requiring you to install an app / creating an account for read-access?
Huge one right there.
-
@ScholRLEA said in The Official Status Thread:

No, it's used for loudly complaining to companies in the knowledge that their twitter account is the only channel that you have a chance of getting a reply from

and then when you try to add a second provider, suddanly you understand how to make it more cross-platform
