@AyGeePlus That's cheating. You just have to mine in a way that you can get back up.

Oh yeah, I stay away from them. Are these homing rockets? I guess you could build a tower and shoot arrows at them from on high....
@Magus said in The Official Status Thread:
Okay, yes, but lets say you're underground. You have to get back to the top to escape to your ship, and are likely to lose it all down there.
Build a base, put crates there. Periodically go back to drop stuff off. Just like you're supposed to in Minecraft but nobody ever does!

It's not minecraft. You're supposed to use your ship. I just haven't found a way to grow mine yet.

Since you can't warp back to your ship from deep underground, you need to prepare.

That gets easier once you get more advanced movement skills. But yeah, to start with, you need to dig so you can get safely back up.

Status: My installation of VS2015 suddenly decided that going into the "Extensions and Updates" menu should yield a "object not set to a reference" error.
First instinct was to do a "Repair" through "Software and Properties". Thanks to my parents' measly pipe (had to look after my 96yo grandma for 4 days), this took 6 hours.
Didn't help, though.
So I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole thing. (Another 6 hours gone).
Didn't help either.
Only then did I finally look to the Internet for help. Some suggested deleting VisualStudio's AppData/Extension folder.
One soul suggested trying to start VS as an administrator - which worked.
12 hours lost to something which a right-click would have solved.

@Tsaukpaetra Probably because older hard drives had bad blocks as a matter of course, did a pretty damned good job of self-repair, and just slowly lost capacity as the years went on.
As drives have become more dense, that happens less and less. The OS hasn't caught up.

Well they implemented a "your 🔋 is broken, might want to fix that" feature, surely they could do the same for a condition that causes data corruption, slow response times and poor performance or worse.
Actually, no, a slowly working takes-five-minutes-to-open-Notepad state is much better than "well you might need to stay close to an outlet"...

I hate debugging minecraft problems.Especially when the last post in a relevant thread is:
it could be a good guess that it could be caused by a plugin to sometimes they could change the permission to read only, but altering permissions on files doesnt sound like a good idea maybe only if you dont want root access then I would agree but for your minecraft user the account who handles the server by altering it makes it probably not readable anymore and or editable.
Err uh. wut.

Also, there's modes now, so maybe on whatever they call easy, you don't lose pixels on death.
The last time I played starbound you could still run your spaceship on wood, so my knowledge is out of date. There used to be 'easy' where you lost pixels, 'hard' where you lost items, and permadeath where you lost your savefile.
All three still exist as far as I can tell. It's pretty much like how Terraria does it.

Status: pissed off.
Things are not going well here now, I can't get into the Lounge to find a certain topic because iOS crashes if I try it (and frequently crashes in the Lounge in general) so I can't vent.
Plus my depression has been getting worse again, likely stress related, but I had plans to write an IF game and submit it for this year's competition. Owing to "lack of time" and "lack of energy" almost an entire month has gone by with just a vague diagram drawn in a mind mapping tool to represent the flow through the game and some having read the Inform manual.
If that weren't enough, every time I look at the diagram I just think, good setup and premise, first act is solid, but it falls apart by mid way through act 2 and the ending is lame. Meaning that I don't want to work on it, so I haven't bothered, leading to me feeling like crap that I haven't worked on it, thus finding excuses of time and energy.
This sucks.

TIL that Microsoft is 13-phobic:
I was going to say that, no, there's a version 13.0, but read the wiki page, and then realized that that's the version of cl.exe, not MSVC.
On a slightly related note, why the hell does this page C++ feature support by Visual Studio release version, rather than C++-compiler version (which is exposed as _MSC_VER, and thus actually useful)?
-
@aliceif MS isn't entirely 13 phobic, my work PC has Edge 25 with EdgeHTML 13 on it.

Checked my email this morning and there's like 7 "super urgent" things I need to do. Sigh. Feels like nobody at that stupid company can do anything without me.
I'm calling in sick again, but logging in to do the one or two most urgent things on that list because I'm way too nice.

Use html5zombo.com - that even works on iPhones.
EDIT: Huge thanks to @Maciejasjmj for showing me that version!

Status: Bestbuy didn't have vitas, so I went nextdoor to Gamestop, who had a couple refurbished ones. I bought that and 32gb of slightly-incompatibly-shaped-sd, and then went home and bought Cyber Sleuth, which I played for 3 hours straight.
It's a great piece of hardware, and that game is wonderful.

@blakeyrat Aaaaa no stop stop sending me new shit to do, I am sick today SICK I am not working I just happen to be online because I'm trying to fix this blocker for QA which BTW is 100% a deployment fuck up and nothing in the code AAAAAAAAAA
EDIT: we're doing employee reviews the last couple weeks, I should have mentioned in my review that if I ever don't come into the office for a day or two, the entire world seems to crumble down entirely.
EDIT EDIT:
Thanks for the info.
Sorry that you're still sick - hope you feel better soon.
We'll persue on this end.I'm taking that to mean "close the laptop." LAPTOP CLOSED.

It's a great piece of hardware,
It's clunky but passable. It has visible screws and screw holes. Visible screws. Before the Vita, when's the last time you saw that? 1987? The FCC logo, model number, etc, is printed on the back, not hidden away under any covers or anything. Again: when's the last time you saw that? Probably also 1987. (EDIT: actually your new one might be different. I have the release 2012 model.)
What really kills it Sony's shitty software. And obstinate and inexcusable failure to support standard flash memory formats.
Worst piece of hardware I've bought in a long time.

My DS Lite. I do think the shoulder buttons feel flimsy, but I find the thing aesthetically pleasing, and the screen seems incredibly nice.

Yeah, that's been the worst thing so far. The 32gb cost me $70 :/

Maybe it's just Japanese companies that didn't get the memo sent out in 2008 or so saying that "this shit is now unacceptable".

Imagine how much cheaper it'd be if you didn't have to buy the camera or that moronic touchpad on the back of it. The camera I could see being useful possibly, but that touchpad on the back is pure garbage.

I admit the screen is pretty nice.

Did you load from flash or network?
You'll begin hating it the instant you're exposed to the moronic incompetence that they call the PSN Store.
The best games I've played on mine are:
- Rayman Origins (also available on literally every other gaming platform ever)
- Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
- Mutant Blobs Attack
And uh...
Uh...
That's it.
I played through the Uncharted game they have, but I wouldn't recommend it for a few reasons. I also bought the Sly Cooper games, but I couldn't get into them.
EDIT: Super Stardust was ok, but it's basically just a 1980s-style arcade shooter twisted around a sphere, and it also uses the motion sensor in a dumb and moronic way that makes it difficult to play on a bus or train.
