France gets all pissy at Microsoft, AGAIN
-
France gets all pissy at an American company selling an American product made by Americans because it doesn't work the way they want. Well, why not just have people switch to the wildly successful French OS instead?
Oh right.
Because like most of Europe, you guys were wanking around wasting time while the US was inventing all of this shit, and you don't have one.
-
@blakeyrat With your system corrupt as fuck and rapidly descending into fascism, you need someone to keep you guys honest.
-
@blakeyrat "stop tracking the web browsing of Windows 10 users without their consent"
Do they mean the consent that was given when people agree to turn on SmartScreen and predictive caching? It's right there in (presumably) plain French the first time you run the browser, or during the install, I forget which.
ETA: You may feel free to assume that is a rhetorical question, if
you'd likethat would make you less unhappy.

@cartman82 said in France gets all pissy at Microsoft, AGAIN:
fascism
Until Trump starts trying to control industry like Obama is already doing, there's not any actual fascism. Except the part implied by the second part of the previous sentence, of course.
-
@FrostCat Don't take any criticism of the US from Cartman82's Euro-hellhole.

Why bother?
Microsoft vice president and deputy general counsel David Heiner said that the company will work with CNIL to develop "solutions that it will find acceptable."

I wasn't, I was reminding everyone that fascism is always falling on the US but landing in Eurpose.
-
@coldandtired It's a good thing I'm not in charge because I'd just add another dialog in there that says "Warning: The government of France wants to make sure you understand there's necessarily some tracking going on to be able to enable SmartScreen and predictive browsing, so please type "je suis un chucklehead" to indicate you understand this and accept the tracking".
-
@FrostCat They're going to have to create a Windows 10 -N version which literally nobody will buy ever.
Like last time the Euros started waving their stinky-cheese around.

@Polygeekery
Illegal in the EU ...

First they came to label the ginger ale, but I said nothing, because I drink ginger beer...
-
@FrostCat That very likely wouldn't be considered legal anyway (as with EULAs).
Writing "this chocolate egg contains a large plastic cylinder which would require huge effort to swallow, and could never be ingested accidentally, but buyer beware" didn't help.

TBH they should've seen that coming. Maybe they've already got one ready.

Sure, ignore me, just as you've ignored cries of your Native American and African victims throughout the centuries.

Like your stereotypically German incomprehension of humor? C'mon...it's a joke, laugh!

LOL. Nobody in Europe has a right to make such statements.

Will do!

I did chuckle, but I reserve the right not to laugh out loud when the person telling the joke is old enough to be my dad.

@mods a slightly-preemptive request for topic title here, too.

@boomzilla Well apparently they need their own thread, with some kind of notification at the top.

LOL! Americans are stupid.
There, now let's stop the the-other-side-of-pond bashing and talk about something at least a little worthwhile.
ETA like dad jokes
@asdf, who knows, maybe he is your dad?

Hmm, it's good you've read the article.
The CNIL found that Microsoft is collecting "excessive" data on Windows 10 users, including the specific apps they download and how much time they spend on each one. The organization added that the company uses cookies to serve personalized ads without properly informing users or allowing them to opt out, and that the four-character PIN system used to access Microsoft services is insecure, because there is no limit on the number of attempts a user can make.
I know, stupid French people, they should all be deported to Canada!

Careful. Microsoft apparently knows if this is true or not.

@kt_ said in France gets all pissy at Microsoft, AGAIN:
@asdf, who knows, maybe he is your dad?
The fact that this is theoretically possible was basically the joke.
Imagine @boomzilla actually was my dad. The family gatherings would be absolutely hilarious.
-
@FrostCat, but I understand. This article has so much fluff and is so damn long and the interesting information is at the very end and let's be honest: who's gonna waste 3 minutes of their lives reading, when they just can start Eurobashing, because you're SOOOO much better.

I think you could crawl up and sleep in his beard, if he wasn't too pissed at you for being a lefty.

@asdf Hm… That reminds me: Didn't you have a daughter who's in her twenties, @boomzilla? You might still become my stepdad!

Cartman's from Moonland. The rest of Europe is racist to moonlandians, if I recall.
So they kind of do.
-

Why bother? I didn't need to for what I originally said.
Beside, the article's wrong, or the government's lying, because when you install it clearly asks you the things the article says it doesn't ask.

I thought we were done other-side-of-pond bashing, you honorary cheese-eating surrender monkey[1].

@FrostCat I looked up the episode the insult was from. April '95! Now I feel really old :(

You misunderstood. He has a daughter who was born in the 1920s.

Oh, she's younger? Then nevermind. (Early 30s would be fine as well.)
