Well, even if you go with the first option, you could say that you first need a good place to park the car.
With respect to option 2, a friend of mine says it's more fun to build than to buy. I've started down that dark path and it's been interesting so far (in a good way). If the vehicle is stout enough to handle the extra power, has a good aftermarket, and is fully paid off, I don't see any harm in it.

@Groaner It was one of those videos where I was thinking "only American's would do this". But it was pretty cool to watch even though it was via a Youtube vid. It must be bonkers loud.
Oh, I can imagine. I've sat in the stands when top fuel cars were staging. You have to cover your ears. There is also something quite impressive about watching an 8000+hp car complete the 1/4 mile at over 300 mph, such that I recommend that people see it at least once, even if they aren't into drag racing.
-
@Groaner
The car I got at the moment is one of these:It is by no means a rubbish car, it is about 10 years old and only had 80,000 miles on the clock. At the end of the day it works and is reliable. It was a good buy.
I have a lot of money sitting in the savings now, thanks to my contracting efforts that will let me put down a deposit on property. So I ain't sure what to do, because I don't want to be tied down too much.

@pydsigner I like toys though that go fast and risk my life.

which is it?
-
@pydsigner I didn't say I was going to drive it fast, a lot of the time I just like to know it can go fast and piss off "Mr 3 series BMW" when needed.
EDIT: You can be surprised how good the turbo in those can be.
-
@lucas1 Eh, well, where I come from grandpas do that by doing 50 in a 70.
-
@pydsigner Realistically most of the time where I am you will be lucky to get to 60 if you didn't leave before 7am. So there is not point driving like a loonie. The M27 is a car park if you leave past 7.45. The M3 is crap until 9pm on a weekday and on a Sunday during the summer ..
-
@lucas1 I have a 45min commute that is after rush hour and mostly on the interstate, so unless there's a bad wreck I usually have a speed limit trip.

Did you try the totally-discoverable "" button in the composer?
It pops a dialog that looks something like this (theme notwithstanding):
Additionally, for the abbr tag, we have a quick-button for that, looks like this:

@Tsaukpaetra Oh. Ooooooooooh. Yeah that's a "great" spot. Doesn't help that I type looking at the preview box mostly because the text color in the entry field doesn't mesh with my GTK theme very well.... @ben_lubar any chance that could get put somewhere more discoverable? And bigger?

Sources say: Unlikely.

This is always an important thing to do.

You need at least 600 amps in most cars just to start it
I really find that use of that unit disturbing.

What's that stand for? Maybe you should acronym it...
Google suggests maybe "edited to add", but I'll have you know that "estimated time of arrival" is the vastly more common meaning.

@Groaner Japanese trucks look like this:
I don't think they perform any better than just regular trucks though.

All that dead weight and all those lights, it's bound to show on the mileage.

I had to push-start my 2008 Clio once. It ran fine initially, but after ~10 minutes the engine would cut out for a minute or so, and then spontaneously start again. After that it ran fine - was an hour and a half trip home. Once I got home, I identified the battery as giving 10.6 Volt or something, and replaced it.
-
@anotherusername I thought it was common shorthand here, hadn't used (or seen) it before joining.

Yes, this is clearly the wrong way to start any vehicle.

@Groaner I'm shocked by how not-that-fast that is.

The beast is remapped. Lots more go.

Was it a canned tune or did you get a dyno tune? If the latter, what were your gains?
-
@Groaner 25hp more, when the car was 100hp. Just did it myself after going through ebay for right kit to do it. I am sure it isn't really 25hp or whatever but it feels faster for sure.

Those are some pretty respectable gains. Even if the manufacturer embellished the figures slightly (as some are known to), you should definitely be able to feel a difference.

(define frist car) (define head car)
Done!

Some would say that's a reason not to use LISP (caps intentional), but I say:
