It's not like you can fit 49 square miles onto a 3.5" floppy :P
Yeah. It's owch though, especially cause I've only got a 1tb ssd

For GTA? You know what, OK, it's a big game. Can anyone explain Wolfenstein: New order being 40 freaking gigabytes? For a linear FPS?

Have you played that game? Most of that is, as always, sound assets, followed by textures. Considering it has two branches that involve different characters in the role of *redacted* and also a side character that's different depending on that same choice, and the fact that things are pretty much always talking to you, are you really surprised?

Valkyria Chronicles consists mostly of uncompressed video in terms of download size.

Yeah, completed one of the paths.

Still seems a bit much, though I'm assuming the levels are the same on both paths. If not then less so.

This is exactly why you don't get it. Level design is the least important thing when it comes to game size.

Status: I'm not sure I'm even running this software right now...
-
@Magus I meant if it's different locations requiring a new set of textures and sound assets, not level geometry.
-
@Onyx Yes, and you still aren't getting it. Any of that stuff that's attached to the level is really minor. Apart from <side character>'s room, the textures are probably even all the same. The dialogue is the main source of file size, and the video. Nothing else matters much in comparison.

-
@Magus Nah, I get it, might be that I'm underestimating just how much dialogue there is.
On the note of the side characters, while I intend to play the other path for completion purposes in any case, is it worth it purely on the story front? As in, any interesting changes besides the side character's personal storyline?

And the music. For example:
(Audio format is OGG, both music and voice)
-
@RaceProUK And that's for a fairly small game, which probably has less music at a lower bitrate, and far, far less voice. It's crazy how huge audio is.
-
@Magus The highest bitrate I saw was about 224kbps; some of the voice clips go as low as 96!

Interesting...interesting. My high school physics teacher said that in certain circumstances, "infinity" is "about a meter", for example when you're learning about lenses.
Hope you're having a nice day, buddy!

:-D
:smile:Actually, "U+200B", being a six-character password with uppercase letters, digits, and "special" characters, would probably be an acceptable password in many cases. Obviously it should probably be a couple characters longer.

How much audio do you need besides a bunch of gunfire sounds and "Gluten tag!" ?

@FrostCat I'd sacrifice 40 GB of disk space for the rest of my life just for that scene where Caroline takes the stick of that captured helicopter.
Goddamned that was one of the most badass moments in all of gaming.

I've been playing buggy RPGs long enough to just save by number. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc
It's either that, or games where it's possible to screw yourself over and not know it until a good hour later (oh Sierra, we love you so much). But eventually you learn to just do that everywhere.
Personally I just cycle the saves if I run out of space, or the game has a limited number of slots.

Does buying a critical patent from a patent troll, then licensing it at exorbitant rates to your employer count?

The distinguishing feature of that game is that it blends the FPS with good storytelling, i.e., cut-scenes. It's the storytelling that really costs disk space, but it's good so it's worthwhile.

And the pacing is actually good, which seems to be the biggest flaw when it comes to games that blend a lot of story elements with gameplay these days.

How is this a problem?
You aren't one of those guys who insist you need to write each line of code twice, once in programming language, and once again in English?

You'd have to be very bored indeed for 3x10-9 seconds to be infinity.

As a subtle hint, the interface works under en_gb, but not under en@Pirate. Quite why which language you're using should affect the interface so I've no idea....
