:fa_bullhorn: The sound of AN ANNOUNCEMENT BEING MADE (or: Request for Comments: Comments)

I know you're joking, but it's still worth noting the difference:
I set the page size to 61000 posts and pumping 610MB pages with 61 million DOM nodes is behaving bad on the browser
: Well, maybe don't do that.I tried to
scrollread a post on a forum and itdidn't workcaused my computer to catch fire.
YOUR DOING IT WRONG STOP IT IPAD SCREW YOU BANNED

Of course we'd probably want to place a reasonable cap in any case...
Fuck you, who are you to tell us what's reasonable???
Nope, doesn't work... damn it @julianlam, say something stupid so I can hate on you!
-
Of course we'd probably want to place a reasonable cap in any case...
No, what you do is don't impose any cap or guidance on sensible values, then call people idiots when they change it from the default.

No, what you do is don't impose any cap or guidance on sensible values, then call people idiots when they change it from the default.
And make the rest of the code rely on something dependent on the limit, like it being set to an even number.
-
then call people idiots when they change it from the default.
Then remove the setting completely but only for mobile when your rendering engine is too terrible to load a reasonable about of posts in a reasonable amount of time.
-
And then when people complain, brush it off with a dismissive "You're on mobile? Well, that's different."
-
For the future: would it be possible to get the "view raw" feature in NodeBB?
-
Yes please.
-
Yes, it's doable. I'd like it to be a proper plugin and not an ugly hack like here, which means I'd have to install NodeBB and figure shit out and all. Didn't have the time.
Maybe bug @boomzilla, he's an expert now, no?
-
Maybe bug @boomzilla, he's an expert now, no?
No. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!
-
For the future: would it be possible to get the "view raw" feature in NodeBB?
yes, absolutely.
i'll add it to the list.

Obviously, we'll also want custom editor buttons that we have now (del/insert, abbr, spoiler - does NodeBB even do those?).
-
No idea about a spoiler plugin,

Be sure to check http://52.91.192.100/ later today when the first counter hits zero! (https://what.thedailywtf.com/uploads/discourse-project.html after the import)

you'll have to wait until one of these gets updated for v1.0.0

Hmm.
And "Completes"? Isn't that when it's starting, not finishing?
-
Wow, when it goes under 24h it switches to clown vomit mode?
-

The timer is a reference to the XCOM2 timer that shows up when you're about to lose the entire game. The only word changed in that top line is avatar->discourse.
-
Wow, when it goes under 24h it switches to clown vomit mode?
aliceif mode.
.aliceif { animation: omgrainbows 1s infinite; } @keyframes omgrainbows { 0%, 100% {color: #7ccdea;} 16% {color: #0074D9;} 32% {color: #2ECC40;} 48% {color: #FFDC00;} 64% {color: #B10DC9;} 80% {color: #FF4136;} }
-
Maybe you could've made it "The Discourse experiment".
-
maybe, but that's a point now.
-
When has that ever stopped the members of this community?
-
Well, considering /uploads/* has an expiration date of a few minutes before 2038, it'd be pretty pointless to update it.
-
And "Completes"? Isn't that when it's starting, not finishing?
Seems like the "Discourse Project" is pretty much done at that point.

OI! that's MY job!
Get a burrow[1], you two.
[1] obviously you can't get a hotel room--how would you use the key card?

if you insist.... i'll need to expand mine though. can i borrow your bobcat for the digging?
-
-
your bobcat
I'm not sure why you want him--his name is Fred--but please return him in one piece.
-
-
i'll take the top one thanks. the bottom one looks like it wants to maul me for food.
-
His stare is a little intense, I agree. Then again, the top one looks like he's challenging you to a race; don't know how useful he'd be extending your burrow.
-
No thanks.
-
or the future: would it be possible to get the "view raw" feature in NodeBB
Ah, yet another feature that I'd like but never got implemented for the silliest of reasons.
... that is... I'm an admin, so when I want to view source, I just edit the post
That said, yes, it's fairly easy to do.
In fact, why don't you just save everybody some time and make everybody an admin? How's that for an outside the box solution...
-

Guys, I think we should tomorrow sooner. @julianlam is absorbing the residual Jeff energy from our Discourse instance.

Highlander II: The Jeffening?!?!??!!?

I hope you thought carefully before sharing that unlisted video, Ben.

// TODO replace this 30 character comment with a 27 character line of code

Goddamnit, why doesn't any browser support CSS 4?
I want to set the background and foreground of
strong:has(> i.fa.fa-eye-slash:not(.hide))
to the same color.
-
I want to
Whenever I have wanted to do something with CSS, StackOverflow told me to just use JavaScript. Sure, I'll tax the user's CPU and manually do something that the browser could and/or should be able to do far more efficiently.
-
Thanks to @ben_lubar, that plugin is now 3 characters more web scale
-
If I wanted to do it with JavaScript, I'd just have NodeBB add a class to the
<strong>
.
-
I want to set the background and foreground of strong:has(> i.fa.fa-eye-slash:not(.hide)) to the same color.
Not sure :has is even going to make it into the final standard. Browser vendors have been vetoing the idea of a parent selector for a long time now since it cannot be implemented efficiently.
-
/* hide email addresses for admin views of profiles */ .profile-meta strong { position: relative; } .profile-meta strong i.fa.fa-eye-slash::after { background-color: #000; content: ''; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; bottom: 0; left: 10px; } .profile-meta strong:hover i.fa.fa-eye-slash::after { display: none; }
Now hopefully nobody will ever accidentally post a screenshot of an email address again!
-
Hey, it looks like the notification at the top has gone.
Discourse!!!
-
Nope, you just dismissed it.
