Squircles
INB4 squircle avatars in Discourse because they are more humanizingly sophisticated!

But is it hip to be squircle?

Sure as hell sounds hipster enough.

Great way to Zero on the pulse of the issue. But if people are named after towns (or in this case, counties), does that mean that Leo is related to Milo?

TIL people are killed by celebratory gunfire. A lot.
Between the years 1985 and 1992, doctors at the King/Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, treated some 118 people for random falling-bullet injuries. Thirty-eight of them died.

TIL about this
Why is there no version for 2013?
-
Microsoft also made this game.

Sadly they seem to have taken it down, and I can't find any mirror. The only thing that remains is a couple crappy YouTube videos. Too bad, it was fun.

TIL that when you click on one of the avatars in Frequent Posters, it filters the thread to that person's posts - but when you click on another avatar, it filters the thread to both people's posts, and you have to click the first person's avatar again to hide their posts back.
And no, there's no "active" indicator on the avatars. Trying to figure out which people are being filtered against? Fuck you, browse through the thread yourself!
Oh, and there isn't even an "unfuck it all and let's start again" button - you can only unroll posts between visible ones, piece by piece, or refresh the page. How the fuck do you fuck up the most basic rule of filtering - "show what filters are being applied"?!

To impede illicit drug manufacturers, the state of Texas has restricted the sale of Erlenmeyer flasks to those who have the requisite permits.[6][7]
I wonder what kind of thought process led into that decision.
"Okay, it seems the drug manufacturing rate is going up here, we gotta do something. Any ideas?"
"Uh, to make drugs, you have to do, like, chemistry, right?"
"Um, yeah I guess..."
"And when you see chemistry at the TV, they always have like, those funny flasks which narrow at the top, right?"
"Yeah, that's right"
"So it must be necessary to chemistry or something. Let's ban this shit."

TIL what the song "Crank That (Soulja Boy" is about.
Now, if you are like me,you probably thought it was just another stupid, annoying dance fad that jumped the shark for most people before the first shorus finshed the first time you heard it, right?
Hehe... YOU WISH.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Px4MdPxDNg
(from 5:30min on)OK, once you know that it does mean something, the 'crank that' part is pretty obvious, no big thing there, right? But, 'supaman that ho'...?

It's not like they just restricted the sale of Erlenmeyer flasks. There's a whole list of restricted items.

TIL someone actually bothered to create a remake of Custer's Revenge (review video, NSFW). Apparently, the original wasn't silly, pointless, offensive, and all-around crappy enough for them, they had to honor it with improved graphics (which wasn't difficult) and additional game mechanics. Including making the cactus the victim is tied to phallus-shaped. Srsly?

You don't even need to do that much: just supply the duct tape and stupid will do the rest spontaneously.

Apparently it's only possible to scan for that markderp at the beginning of a word stungun and you have to use HTML to do what you wanted.

TIL that GEOS is still being developed and sold commercially. I guess it really is true that nothing ever truly dies in the software market. It seems to be aimed at being an operating system (an actual OS, rather than on top of something else like it used to be) and office suite that schools can use on older hardware that isn't up to running later versions of Windows.
Never used it, personally, so I have no idea if it is good or not.
