:dart: benediction thread on the most clever lid changer of them all? EVERY ONE, I SUCK YOU NONE!

The greens yeah. The rest of it didn't appear on Monday's menu or salad bar, so I have no idea how they ended up in Tuesdays leftover salad
-
It's a pretty strange combination for a salad.
-
What part of that salad is strange? Well, besides the baby carrots, which I assume are meant to be eaten out of hand.
-
The strawberries and baby carrots mostly. I think nuts is strange in salad too, but imagine other people don't.
-
Candied pecans apparently means "burnt pecans".
-
Everything except the spinach looks sub-par, and the spinach just looks average. I'm sorry. Based on the description from yesterday, it had so much potential.
-
The cheese was yummy.
-
I guess the cheese looks decent. My main problem with that cheese is that it's just a block. They made zero effort to mix the salad at all.
-
Some would even pay for that! (not to see it, mind, just for it to happen!)

Back to the topic of predictions (what is this thread even about now?). I'm really, really annoyed that prediction markets apparently don't exist anymore. They're the simplest and purest application of the basic principle of capitalism (let people bet their own resources on what they believe will be most successful in order to reward rational thinking) and had a good track record. Why am I not fucking allowed to bet on things happening? When investing and trading is the exact same thing, only with more layers of abstraction? And lottery and casinos, which do nothing more than bankrupt the poor and uneducated, are perfectly OK? Pure fucking bullshit.

No flying cars
We've had flying cars for over a century. The problem is, all the rules, procedures, skills and costs that go into driving them are beyond the capabilities of most of the public.
-
We've been ten years from commercial fusion power for at least the last twenty years, and I don't see that changing any time soon.
Hydrogen is the fuel of the future (and always will be)!

We will see at least one huge data breach where the breached entity will be exposed as grossly negligent and incompetent (such as storing or transmitting PII as plaintext, or giving a Chinese contractor sysadmin on a database server containing U.S. Government employees'/contractors' PII).
Nothing will change after said breach, except the usual free credit monitoring. Victims will find creative ways to line up credit monitoring from multiple breached entities so that they will have free credit monitoring for long periods of time, perhaps the rest of their lives.
AAA games will continue to become less innovative in the pursuit of the Reliable and Proven Cash Cow™. Indie titles will continue to be a mixed bag of some turds and some brilliance.

Cubs don't win the world series.
Obama disregards the Constitution
Upper bounds of estimates of climate sensitivity come down again
Tar sand oil spilled in train crash.
-
All of these hit too close to home T_T
And they're all going to be true, of course.
-
Obama disregards the Constitution
What, are you expecting him to claim he has 4 more years after his second term?
-
PHP6 won't gain any traction
So last year. PHP 7 was released around November. Or you maybe mean Perl 6? I've heard they hit 1.0 this Christmas, maybe 1.5 people gave a fuck.

It will be along the lines of how he's done it in the past, like legislating from the Oval Office.
I think he'll be pretty happy to step down, actually.

I will continue to pretend to be a friendless loser everybody hates but that a decent chunk of the population of WTDWTF would actually miss if I left

@dkf's employers will unleash the zombie apocalypse.
Strictly, they're called “graduates”, not “zombies”, and that will happen at around the beginning of July.
-
We'll all waste time doing stuff that doesn't matter but management wants it anyway
You know it will be true.
Politics in the UK will continue to infuriate me
Why break the habit of the past few decades?
We'll get our system for capturing the data from our scientists' experiments into a coherent whole working
Either that or I'll have a nervous breakdown.
-

I am actually optimistic that this will not happen to me all year. We have a lot of shit that needs to get done so I don't think I'll be tasked with "hey, if you could go ahead and [waste your time on] this [new/old] project, that'd be greeeeeaaaaat." Any time soon.
-
Oh ye of too much faith.
Your naivety is charming sometimes.
-
We'll see :)
-
You might not realize that it doesn't matter at the time. But soon enough it will become clear.

Doubtful. Either I'd have to be assigned to a pointless project that gets scrapped after I work on it or someone else would have to drop the ball on their part of a project and make us miss the deadline. Neither seem likely since we have plenty of contracts that need to be done on top of maintaining our own projects, both of which are things that are unlikely to be scrapped, and I'm not likely to be assigned to something other than one or more of those projects, and none of my coworkers are incompetent, so I doubt any of them will miss deadlines.
-

Yes. The problem is that so often you don't realize that it was pointless until after the fact.
-
Yes. The problem is that so often you don't realize that it was pointless until after the fact.
Yes, but the problem is that we have a shitton of inherently not-pointless projects that need to be done this year.
-
-
Many of which could easily become pointless when the intended users decide they don't need them any more.
You will learn in time, grasshopper.
-
Wow, you really don't get it, do you?
You're on a site founded on the principle that everywhere in IT is full of incompetence. The odds of you, all your coworkers and managers all being competent, as well as customers not changing their minds... Slim to none.
-
Or better still. A proof of concept or one of script becoming the corner stone of the business.
-
Yeah, wouldn't surprise me.
-
A proof of concept or one of script becoming the corner stone of the business.
So that's how Discourse got started... explains everything...
-
I've seen better PoCs, to be honest.
-
you, all your coworkers and managers all being competent
There's a reason we have a bunch of contracts to deal with
(and the reason we have such a backlog of contracts to deal with is because of people who are no longer here)
as well as customers not changing their minds
They pay us either way, thanks to said contracts. :P
-
So fucking what? My company has a bunch of contracts. See the Lounge thread on the subject for proof that having lots of customers does not equate to competence.
Also, whoosh. Customers changing their minds will lead to inevitable delays that will face your timescales over. But you're so smart I guess that won't be a problem? (It will)

This is fox... You know how blakey always says he's always right? Fox means it, and doesn't believe that anything can be right apart from his beliefs. This is not the kind of conversation to have with him.
