Where is the underboob???????

Whoever changed the topic title should be ashamed to use keyword that bait to lure me in when I could be reading some other random shit

Build it, and they will come.

That's not underboob!
This post is not exactly a complaint per se.

Picky, fucking, bastard.

Status: I wanted to know why Windows 10 hadn't installed the new OS update that everyone has been talking about, so I went to the UPDATE & SECURITY panel. Apparently the reason it couldn't install it was "Error". So I clicked the only button on the entire window: "Restart". It rebooted my computer and didn't install the update.

What does that have to do with underboob?? Did you even read the thread topic? Damn it Ben, try to keep up...

so I went to the UPDATE & SECURITY panel.
Apparently my control panel is broken. Completely unable to open it, I'm not even getting the annoying "You Need Updates" un-cancellable System-Modal Metro Dialog that usually bugs me every four hours.
I'm pretty sure rebooting will get things back in order, but why ruin a good thing?

PREPARiNG
Perhaps it's locking the files in order to start a transaction?
-
Why would it take over an hour to get to TWENTY EIGHT PERCENT if it was just doing IO operations that don't even have to touch the disk?
-
don't even have to touch the disk
It's the very thought that counts. Perhaps it's seeding the updates to your other (and all of your friend's) Windows 10 computers?

My Ubuntu LTS server, my dhromebook Daisy, my mom's Windows 7 Enterprise laptop, my dad's Windows 7 Professional laptop, and various iDevices that I refuse to touch?
Yeah, I'm sure they'd need this update for Windows 10.

they'd need
They might not, but your neighbors in Jukeckistan might appreciate your donated bandwidth!

I guess you could call that a memory helper.

Then I go into the acceptance criteria with the second-in-command of QA, and he's like, "no, you MUST expand on this code, you can't write a new version that talks to the back-end directly." Having dealt with this idiot before I just smiled and nodded. Now I have to talk to MY boss about it. Ugh.
No! Mah codes! Mah precious codes must live forever!
Idiot.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing my old code sink into oblivion.

Ben, you need more productive hobbies.
Breeding obscure reptiles would be more productive than what you do now.
Well, as long as you aren't trying to breed with them of course.
I use to breed dogs.
Then I found that they could do it on their own.

Good idea... And tempting...
No one will get it, of course. The wooden table bit I mean. Possibly the joke bit, too, but that part can at least be debated.

Status: Seeing weird network problems to some systems when using ssh for a bunch of things to do with large file management. Got a horrible suspicion that some router (responsible for load balancing between a few hosts that provide the service I'm using) isn't locking each open connection to a particular host so when it switches which host is to be used by the machine I'm coming from, all the open ssh connections I've got to it just break silently. It didn't matter when we were just moving a few tens of megabytes about, but now that we're starting to move real data it's getting really annoying.
I really hope I'm wrong. Fighting with our network infrastructure people is like throwing excrement at retarded monkeys, but without the satisfaction of seeing things go splat.

Hey now, I have a 10-year-old Maxtor 300GB that's still chugging along just fine.
I got a bad batch of MaxLine parts once, out of 12 drives 8 were dead within a year. But I've had similar clusters happen with WD drives. Probably just randomness or they were all dropped by the supplier etc...
I'm fairly sure one of those MaxLine drives is still chugging on in the firewall.

A government entity who shall not be named. And no, they don't work for us. We submit data to them, and they (I guess?) give it back to us.

At least a reboot helped get theMetroModernUnified Control Panel working again. Too bad this broke the Expand Notifications button on theTaskbarSystem TrayNotification Area. Also, windows apparently had some updates in the queue that made my 2-minute restart (because 30% faster than Windows 7!) turn into a 34-minute triple-restart ordeal.
Filed under: It's a good thing I was intentionally not doing anything at that point...

because 30% faster than Windows 7!
Windows 10 is only 30% faster than Windows 5040?

only 30% faster
At least, according to their employee's Blog Posts. Grain of sand, really.
Filed under: How extensive is their testing? And who's to say that BIOS devices see any improvement at all?

Well, considering how much slower 10 is than 7, I'd imagine going up by 5030 major versions is probably gonna slow it down by more than 30%.
-
Ouch. No warning signs?
EDIT: and that like was a pitty one, not a "yay @Jarry is outa work"

Ah, I see you've never come across the "send raw HTML to the Response stream out a header of .xls" method of generating an Excel file.

"send raw HTML to the Response stream out a header of .xls"
Isn't it a wonderfully awful hack?
The request originally came to download these into a database table daily, and (from the email, I hadn't actually downloaded them yet) I thought to myself, "How am I going to programmatically extract the data from an xls file?"
Then I opened it up, excel complaining it was corrupt and wondered why, until I decided to open it in a text editor to check the blocks...

Ben you should try a sitcom format here. I think it'd work better.
