Judge rules man had right to shoot down drone over his mouse
-
Should it have temporarily escaped your pressured memory, William Merideth in July said he saw a drone flying above his property in Hillview, Kentucky.
He believed it was spying on his 16-year-old daughter who was sunbathing in the garden. So he took out his shotgun and blasted the drone out of the sky. He was arrested for wanton endangerment and criminal mischief.
Now a Kentucky court has declared Merideth an innocent man.
-
Note: one commenter suggested a less violent handling: Paint Ball Gun!
-
I'd like to see him shoot down the satellites that are spying on him!
-
That would be cool to shoot down a drone for daily tooth brush. That would be a good argument for owning guns. I want to see a trophy picture of a cowboy with a freshly shot toilet paper in a ranch.
-
Ok this is the second time someone's posted week-old news here. (The other one is the porn goggles thread.) WTF.
Do you guys only read the news while in the timepod?
-
I only read the news when somebody posts a funny article here.
-
Oh man. You're going to learn about 9/11 in another 4, 5 months...
-
9/11 has been in the calendar year for like a century, bro.
-
9/11
Oh crap, what did Nine of Eleven do this time? I swear it's like he just goes around making trouble for the Eight to go around fixing...
-
I don't think government airspace extends down to a few feet above my roof.
-
I think it's just tin-foil-hatting, but it might be as little as 500 feet...
Filed under: Not like I believe any of these sources are reputable or necessarily authentic...

her name
Um, His designation is not 7/9, it was stated he was 9/11, two completely different units!
-
-
Only thing I can find..
To be fair, @blakeyrat did claim we'regoing to learn about 9/11 in another 4, 5 months...
So it's possible that the designation registry hasn't been syndicated to the internet yet.
Filed under: Also, this is not a public designation IRL.

That works really well. Attempting to follow the link doesn't go to the article; I wind up on http://www.forbes.com/forbes/welcome/, which is completely blank (except for some analytics crap that Ghostery blocked).

Railguns ftw?
-
It's not discourse; it's Forbes. It's redirecting me to the broken welcome page.
-
Their website's been doing that for at least a couple months now. Any time I see a news article on forbes, I have to follow the link at least twice to get to the article.
-
I tried multiple times. According to Chrome Dev Tools, the body of the page consists entirely of an empty div and two scripts, both of which throw errors:
-
Did you just refresh, or did you actually click the link a second time? I did the latter and am now able to view the article.
-
Meh, I agree with the guy. As long as him discharging the firearm did not put anyone at risk, he was entitked to defend his property. The drone owner should keep his shit over property he has consent to fly over
-
I'm about 80% certain the suit would've been thrown out within minutes if it occurred in Texas.
-
Also, I'd like to take a moment to point out how adorable nano drones are. *points at the picture attached to the Forbes article*
-
Yes, I clicked the link again. I didn't count, but I tried somewhere between, probably, 6 – 10 times — left click, middle click, right-click-open-in-new-window. Even if it work if I gave it one more try, it has now become more trouble than it's worth.
-
It should be thrown out anywhere. Shotguns are not long-range weapons. If a property owner can shoot your drone from his porch, you should be flying elsewhere.
-
*shrug* I dunno. It worked for me when I clicked it twice in fairly rapid succession.

Well, yeah, but in Texas it's entirely legal to defend your property with deadly force. The judge probably wouldn't have even had to verify that no humans were in the line of fire or anything.
-
It worked for me
Ok, I feel really special now. Forbes hates me, personally, or something.
-

Dammit. 'd

It is in most states, to my knowledge.
-
That's because Forbes puts a huge intersitial ad. And they probably made the entire navigation of the website depend on javascript code to punish ad blockers.
Interestingly, if I click http://www.forbes.com/forbes/welcome/ directly, it still directs me to the article I clicked before.
I wonder if it messes up opening different links in tabs?
-

Yeah, that's due to Ghostery. When you get that on Forbes, hit Back, and then hit the link again and it'll work the second time.
-
Even with Ghostery disabled, I still get a blank welcome page. I give up. I found the relevant information on other web sites.
-

In most states you have to actually feel threatened in some way.
Texas is just legalized murder central.
Doorbell rung by a Japanese kid? Blast away. Why not. Not a crime here in Texas. Shoot the fuck out of that completely innocent kid, don't worry, you'll be acquitted. He had the wrong address, obviously he deserved it. And you know those Japanese exchange students, what a rowdy bunch they are!
Fuck Texas.
-
Fuck Texas.
The linked article details an event that took place in Louisiana.
Not that you are wrong, but you linked the wrong evidence.
-
Fuck Texas.
"Mr. Hattori was looking for a Halloween party in the Baton Rouge suburb of Central"
Texas is so bad that it causes people in other states to do stuff @blakeyrat doesn't like!
And he thinks I have poor reading comprehension.
Or that post was an elaborate troll.
Fuck Washington--it causes people to be bigots.
-
Oh. What was the Texas one.
The entire South sucks.

The entire South sucks.
What would amusing news stories be if they did not start with "Florida man..."
-
-
Not that you are wrong, but you linked the wrong evidence.
I love how you acknowledge that for Blakey, but when I did the same thing you were like "OMFG YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY WRONG ABOUT EVREHTHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG"
-
That's... kind of amazing.
-

I introduced some 8 - 10 year olds to 9/11 tonight. I didn't want to go too much in depth, because they're not mine (mine already knew about it, of course), but it was an interesting experience.

Did you say bad things about the Flat Tax at some point?
