Hey Lunixy people, ESR is a huge gamergater
-
Can we get some of that in the next FP article pls? kthxbai

Touching ESR's tits = fame?
Your reading comprehension is really lacking.
He said exactly the opposite. But when you're wrong, you have to try to spin things around, in an attempt to distract from your wrongness.
I have a feeling that in real life he is a politician.
-
these guys sound like they are using a single unverified report of honeytrapping to justify assuming all people reporting sexual assault are maliciously lying
Your reading comprehension is only marginally better than blakeyrat's.
-
OK, sorry. All rape allegations are false and only made to fuck up the lives of honest, God fearing, upstanding men. Better?
-

Also, it looks like my prior statement is incorrect. Blakeyrat's shoulder aliens would never come up with such a howler.
-
You should be able to pull it off, though, being a writer and all.
If he had to pull it off, she obviously didn't go far enough.
-
I thought Catholicism was all about "doesn't matter what you do as long as you feel really guilty. Even if what you did wasn't bad"
Nope.
-
So, yes, there's generally more to it than just saying sorry.
Yeah, to be clear, you're supposed to try to stop doing whatever it was. Denial of absolution is for people who don't care to do that.
-
Or I guess, in his case, with a basement full of Sarkeesian publicity photos with their eyes burned out, or whatever he imagines gamergate to be.
I thought it was "People who lie awake in their basements, terrified that Ninja Social Workers are going to break in through the windows and force them to have manners".
But it's really about ethics in writing copy for the back of cereal boxes and I'm just not cool enough to get it.
-
In Catholicism, you have to confess your sins to a priest to get absolution
You pay a membership fee then confess

That's the most impressive timepodding we've seen in a long time. Maybe ever!
-
So maybe I should demand a for that!
What? can't I at least try to divert this from yet another soon-to-be climate change debate to a topic of my choice?
-
Of course famous people have to be careful, every crazy ass psycho bitch either wants to have a baby by stealing your used condoms or somehow get some money out of you. And why not, every day you can hear stories about guys living in a dumpster after a hard divorce, why won't they do it to a famous stranger? It's easy, shout "rape" and get some US$ 50k
-
Well, since you mentioned it, I found this when looking up stuff in the Go thread:
https://archive.is/dgilkWhich led me to
https://feelsandreals.wordpress.com/2015/01/31/igda-puerto-rico-closes-too-suddenly/Apparently this guy was deemed a "GamerGater" for no clear reason and included in a blacklist (jesus christ what are those people inventing?), and when he complained he was doxed and harassed, and then (as I understand) kicked from the IGDA because this led other people to harass it.
Pretty scary stuff.
-
First they came for the sjws, and I did nothing because I am not a sjw.
No, you actually are. ;)
-
I have a feeling that in real life he is a politician.
He can neither confirm nor deny that statement.
-
Pretty scary stuff.
People like me call out Progressives as evil fucking Stalinist assholes and get ridiculed for being insane conspiracy theorists. But it doesn't make us wrong.
-
I'm kind of curious as to why you think ESR is anything to do with Linux.
-
First they came for the sjws, and
I did nothing because I am not a sjw.that actually made the world a better place.FTFY
-
I'm kind of curious as to why you think ESR is anything to do with Linux.
You do know that 99% of all Linux distros are actually GNU/Linux distros? Blakey might not be 100% on the ball, but that means most of Linux users use stuff that came out of GNU project and was written by FSF members. So yeah, I think he's pretty close to Linux community, if not really a full-fledged "member", if you can even determine that with the Linux community being as loose of a term as it is.
Man, when I have to defend Blakey's shoulder aliens, you know there was some special brand of pedantic dickweedery going on.
-
Can you point to anything that ESR has actually contributed?
-
What am I, Google or Wikipedia?
What are you asking, for his work to be in the kernel or something? In which case I really don't have neither the time nor the inclination to go digging through commit history to see if there are any commits by him.
Also, I think you might be taking Blakey's troll a tad too seriously with this whole "distance ESR from Linux, oh noes!" shtick.

I've been using Linux for 20 years, and I've been perfectly aware the ESR is a crazy person for at least 18 of them. He's not a hero of mine - he's just a bell-end.
-
Whereas I've only known that @blakeyrat is a deranged bell-end for 6 months.
Well, they're not deranged, as much as their both driven to utter idiocy between the disjunction between their own intelligence, and their opinions of their own intelligence.

Props to rosarior for calling him on it.

What am I, Google or Wikipedia?
Do you know what a rhetorical question is?
For those playing along at home, I'd like to present Fetchmail, a mail handling tool whose primary failure mode is to download and delete everything on a POP3 server, then delete the local copy too when it finds out that it isn't being run as root. Or some shit like that.
-
ESR is terrible. Stallman is terrible. Really all the luminaries are terrible except possibly Linus, who gets mega points for being a total jerk, which is actually kind of terrible.

Linus isn't so bad. He's not nearly as ugly as ESR or RMS. N.B.: I judge OSS people entirely on looks

It's a pretty good cheatsheet, anyway.

He's very Enlightened.
-
why you think ESR is anything to do with Linux
If someone asked me "What does ESR have to do with Linux", I't assume it was one of those annoying recursive acronyms and meant something like "ESR Socket Rumination"
-
Oh, look, a notification I missed.
Do you know what a rhetorical question is?
Yes. I didn't see one above.
mail handling tool whose primary failure mode is to download and delete everything on a POP3 server
Oh, look, something that actually does what POP3 specifies. Good. We need more of those so I can finally convince people to stop using that crap.
The rest if it is broken bullshit though.
-
How about this. You let me use your computer for 1 hour. Alone. Logged in as administrator.
No? Well, I wasn't going to do anything bad, but on principle, you don't let anyone else use your stuff because they could mess it up. The situation is no different for careers.
It's the same reason you keep the doors to your house locked while you're sleeping. Probably nobody is going to try to break in and murder you, but why take the chance?
-
Can you point to anything that ESR has actually contributed?
gpsd, ntpd, reposurgeon, giflib...
-
Props to rosarior for calling him on it.
"I think you should do x, and the fact that you don't makes me feel threatened, so I'm going to report you to the project lead to see if you should be kicked off it." Sure sounds like threats to me.
-
Probably nobody is going to try to break in and murder you, but why take the chance?
Man, you need to back off on the tin foil, Ben.
-
If I were in a position of power I'd definitely be wearing a body cam 24/7 nowadays. A small annoyance but it has a non-negligible chance to save your ass.
And as technology gets betters, in 10 years it will probably not be an annoyance at all.

Yeah, that's actually not a bad point, now I think about it. It's like a kind of metaphor for gun safety, or something, "don't point fetchmail at something unless you're ready to blow it away".
-
I'm honestly not sure if clients or servers do the whole "keep POP3 mail on the server" these days, because I'd disable it everywhere right fucking now.
Using POP3 if IMAP is avalable was stupid before, it's doubly so now when everyone and their dog have a smartphone. Because now everyone has their email configured on a pocket computer and they keep whining about having to mark emails as read at least twice because they insist on POP3 which simply cannot handle such a use case.
-

Yes, they do.
The best way to handle this (in my opinion) is to disable POP3 on the server
-
At least Linus has done (and still is doing) something meaningful, that not many people in the world can. All those lawyers and luminaries are just old zealots who should retire to their basements with their cats.
-
Women never falsely accuse men of rape in order to get something out of it.
But men are smart enough to take the advice of their mothers and never be alone with a woman.
-
who is esr and what has this to do with gamergate?
Who said anything about gamergate?
Or why don't you provide some evidence to the contrary? As usual, you expect us to do the burden of proof for you.
You clowns are making the assertion (honeytraps are a significant risk), you provide the evidence. ESR's evidence is "some guy told me" which carries no weight with me and it shouldn't with you. It's not up to anybody to prove the negative, which is of course impossible as you well know.
"womyn" failed to produce anything remotely useful to date.
Did I just read this in 2015, not 1815?
Does that mean we won and @b lost?
There are no winners here. You're all losers.
Most things in the world are run by men. I wonder why...
Jesus fuck you knuckle-draggers are a special brand of special.
Been a while since I've been in the booth.
ESR is a crazy person
Nailed it.
But men are smart enough to take the advice of their mothers and never be alone with a woman.
Does that include your mother?

Yes, but I don't think it meant what you seem to think it meant.
-
Did I just read this in 2015, not 1815?
Yep. And they haven't advanced two fucking centuries after.
