Anime Is Worse Than Belgium

Oh look, another thread stuffed with images from cartoons for children.
Yep. Make sure to get a series like Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt for your kids. It's so very appropriate! It's about angels and everything!

(I was going to use clips from Legend of the Overfiend, but I decided that would be going overboard.)
-
The Last Great Work of Gainax. Let all who peer upon it bask in it's majestic glow.
-
Yeah... funny thing is, there have been instances where stores have assumed that everything animated was for kids, and so put hentai videos like Urutsukudooji (Legend of the Overfiend) and La Blue Girl, or conversely, brutally serious tearjerkers like The Cockpit, Now and Then Here and There, Grave of the Fireflies, and Barefoot Gen, in with the childrens' DVDs. I would not want to be the parent that picked one of those up by mistake.
Though in the case of Overfiend, being a fly on the wall watching as the parent tries to explain what those tentacles are doing might be fucking hilarious. I'd still pity the traumatized kids though.
-
People are crazy. P&Sw/G would be particularly susceptible, considering what it mocks.

QFT. It looks really light and kid-friendly on the surface, especially with it's heavily stylized art. Then the characters open their mouths...
Or you get to a scene with Garterbelt (the large black priest with the huge afro) getting tied up and whipped by altar boys. Try explaining that one to Junior.
But P&Sw/G is relatively tame in comparison to the real hentai stuff. It's about on the level with, say, South Park or Drawn Together, whereas La Blue Girl et al are much more explicit, moreso than even
Fritz the Cat.Actually, it's the tearjerkers that you really want to be careful with. I mean Barefoot Gen is about the fucking atomic bombing of Hiroshima, and it's probably the least traumatic of the ones I mentioned earlier. Showing one of those to a kid under the age of eleven would constitute child abuse. Great films, yes - Grave of the Fireflies is one of the finest films of all time, animated or otherwise - but really hard to watch even as an adult.

is the deal with tentacle porn? Jeez, the Japanese are really weird.
-
Originally, it was mostly a way to get around censorship, which at the time absolutely forbid showing male genitalia (or pubic hair) even in adult films. That's also where the 'invisible penis' stuff comes from, too. Over time it became a fetish, go figure.

They're on an island surround by squid! Where do you think the term sheepshagging came from. IT GETS LONELY ON THE HILLS. And then you come down from the hills and discover shepherds pie is made from 100% authentic shepherd!

both great movies, both i would consider required watching for anyone who enjoys anime.....
both very very very hard movies to watch....
I'd put them up there with Schindlers List in that they are all fantastic movies and supremely well done, while at the same time being very hard to watch because they deal with such terrible events.
-
If you look at Japanese porn comics, they also do this thing where they'll show a full-on sex scene but then draw like 3 thin horizontal lines across the genitals.
Because obviously it's no longer a penis if there's 3 thin horizontal lines across it.
-
Overly specific laws are weak. Perhaps on purpose.
-
BY LAW all penises in print must have three thin lines across them!
-
I'm not much of an anime person. But I do have some favourites, some of them a bit... unconventional
Let's see how many of you can get this one. I did leave a small hint.
-
Hint to what? What are you asking?
-
Is that
JoJo's Bizzarre Adventure
?
-
I'm asking whether anyone can guess where that picture is from.
Wording was a bit sloppy, I admit.

No you are not doing that.

If you intended to do that, they were not merely "sloppy" but actually "non-existent".

Why does that look like someone put a coat of anime paint on Lethal Weapon? Well; let's let Google answer that for you, if you don't know:
Google for "Lethal weapon anime" and an RTL flip of this image will come up as one of the first hits.
Yeah; this shot is from Policenauts. A digital novel game by Hideo Kojima, which (like Snatcher before it) pays homage to detective and crime series and movies. The most obvious one in this case being the main characters, who are dead ringers for Riggs and Murtaugh.
You'd never know if you didn't know where to look tho'.
-
Damn it! I even flipped the image to throw off the reverse-GIS, but yeah, nice one on the Lethal Weapon connection ;)
And yes, Brown definitely is too old for that shit.
I highly recommend the game to anyone who likes interactive novels and can be arsed with patching the game to English using an unofficial patch (or can speak Japanese). Snatcher is good. Policenauts is freaking genius (though it goes a bit Kojima towards the end).
-
Interestingly, the only JoJo with hair that length is Jolyne, and her hairstyle is completely different. That guy looks like a less cool Speedwagon.
Still clearly better than whatever he posted.
I highly recommend the game to anyone who likes interactive novels
Play Ever17, because Lord Tzeench demands it!
-
Oh right, I have the [s]ISOs[/s] discs and translation patches for both Snatcher and Policenauts. At some point, I should get around to actually playing them.
But not Snatcher SD because it looks friggin' weird.
-
Snatcher was properly localized for Sega CD though. Policenauts never were.
-
The only interactive novels worth playing are:
-
The Ace Attorney games are pretty good, too.

Right if you're a dumbshit moron who just shovels moneys at Nintendo because you're stupid.
-

In this day and age? Clearly none of them have watched South Park, or Family Guy, or Archer (to name a few)...what rock have they been hiding under? Heck, South Park isn't even fit for adults...says so in the intro.

Or Fritz the Cat-- oh wait that was the FUCKING 1972!
-

I've always had this problem with Nintendo. I hate the company so I don't want them getting my money. However I really like the Zelda games. However I don't like them getting my money. I want to play Zelda but I'm not spending £150 on a console and £30 on a game that I will only play for that console and will never be able to play again. They have some wonderful games on their stores how ever they're tied to the console you buy them on. There are people willing to shill for them on youtube but they keep sending them copyright claims or taking half their earnings and then look around in puzzlement when noone wants to advertise for them.Everything about that company just appears to be a wtf in motion. Everytime they appear to be taking a step in the right direction. They take two steps backwards and then shit the bed.
-
However I don't like them getting my money.
- Go on eBay
- Buy a refurb NES, Super NES, and Wii (old style with GameCube backwards copat)
- Buy refurb copies of all the Zelda games you like
That should be enough Zelda to last you a long time, and exactly $0 of your money goes to Nintendo.
Faux edit: You can also buy a Gameboy Color and add a couple extra Zeldas.
-
You skipped the N64, why?
-
I assume he doesn't care for Majora's Mask.
He also didn't opt for the GameBoy Advance, which can also do all the GameBoy Zelda games plus Minish Cap.

Capcom. Not Nintendo.
-
Probably a lot of overlap there.
-
Probably a lot of overlap there.
Sadly true. Capcom is ... not what it used to be.
It's basically next inline for 'pulling a Konami'.
-
Capcom
Strider(2014) shows that they've not completely lost it, though.
And I love how so many people are butthurt about them dropping Mega Man.
-
They sold Strider and DmC to other companies to do the work, because they can't do it anymore. I'm one of those people upset that they've killed one of their most well known franchises again. I guess Darkstalkers wasn't all that popular either, but overall, I'd definitely say that Capcom and Nintendo couldn't be more different. One fetishises killing off things you're nostalgic for in the same way the other does rehashing them.
-

Better than holding IP hostage.
-
And admittedly, Strider turned out great. I wish there had been more to it, but I enjoyed what was there quite a lot.
-
-
What's this gibberish? You're supposed to be the Lets Player around here.
-
Retusuprae is one of the things that inspired me to try let's play. They make fun of awful let's players. Well, they used to. Then their fanbase got full of howling baboons who'd keep harassing people, so they've been doing longplays isntead.
-
Retusuprae is one of the things that inspired me to try let's play. They make fun of awful let's players.
So, the whole point was to get Retsupurae to make a video about you?
-
No; the point is I hope none of my videos are bad enough they'd consider making a video about me.
Or, rather, I had the kind of inspiration you get when you get exposed to some medium and have the realization that almost everybody doing it really, really sucks. And it's not like I'm good at it or anything, but at least I can compare myself to "The Gaming Goose" and feel good about myself.

Which one? I posted two.
