Seemingly Unrelated Topic 3: Blatant Flamebait
-
So, am about to set up a tracking system for a school box-tops submission program. Thinking of using a spreadsheet.
-
-
Nah, probably going to be Google Blob
DocsDrive
-
Notepad in a VM.
-
-
Make sure you use LibreOffice and RHEL 5.
You can install something newer than StarWriter in RHEL5?

Within another VM.
So, I suppose I could treat each open notepad instance as a variable, then.

Implemented on top of a complex Minecraft redstone-logic system...which of course runs on the Java VM.

On an emulated android within Visual Studio on Windows.
-
Congratulations, over the last 3+-d2 posts this thread has achieved, convergence! You are confused!
-
-
But that probably doesn't run on the Microsoft fork of Android in VS's emulator!
-
Does that mean you'll stop now?
-
Can we run a WP emulator on Android emulated on Windows? And then RDP into the Windows machine?
-
I've lost track, what's actually running on the hardware again?
-
As long as the final, real layer is a bunch of Asian kids with abacuses.
-
I'd rather run ComputerCraft on Minecraft on Windows on Android emulated on Windows. Maybe in a Linux VM.
-
Who cares as long as it's Linux hardware.
-
We aren't that far out yet.
-
As long as the final, real layer is a bunch of Asian kids with abacuses.
How about a hyperconvergence, where we have each event's tracking assigned to one kid who keeps notes locally?
-
How about everyone keeps their own notes, they can make a pull request for it to get put on the billboard, and we can just merge them all later?
-
You're asking us to just discard several million dollars in architecture investment - we have to amortize that still.
-
At what point is it that XKCD with the stones?
-
Is the git system also a bunch of kids on abacuses?
-
-
U wot!? Aye, boys, its toim f' fightin'! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

You laugh, but that one guy did invent a 4Kb tape drive with redstone.
-
The Microsoft JVM.
Oooh, c-c-c-c-combo breaker! For its day, the MSJVM was in many ways, including performance, far superior to the Sun one.

At some point, one of the layers has to be implemented in Excel.

At
someno point, onemay any of the layershas tobe implemented in Excel.
Redirected. Using Excel would defeat the entire purpose. However, using POI to generate .xls and jam them through OpenOffice would be acceptable. Bonus points if the OOo instance is driven by a mail rendering thread. (true story, file formats have been changed to protect the guilty).
-
Using Excel would defeat the entire purpose.
No, the purpose of using Excel as one of the underlying layers is so that we can laugh at you for not just using Excel to solve the problem in the first place. Also because "everything
canshould be done in Excel" used to be a meme around here.
-
Eh, I need to do something any spreadsheet can do and I don't want to move the file around. Google Drive can have this data - Excel licenses cost money, sometimes.
-
Stop making stupid investments then.
Or listen to the systems analysts you hired.
-
This problem isn't going to be subject to scale pressure... this is to keep track of the boxtops at school. No analysts were hired - although it does seem that yes, if I do use any of the free analysis provided here, I will fail to conform to the first constraint you suggest - indeed, an either/or.
-
No, I mean the complaint that you haven't seen returns on your hardware.
I get tired of that one.
I hear it all the time.
-
Yeah that one was a joke. But it's funnier when it's used seriously.
-
I love the one in Houston, where they voted to take the red light cameras down.
And then the gov. be all like, but we spent 10 million dollars on a contract that isn't fulfilled yet.Yeah, well, you should have voted on it first.

I'm pretty sure Debian supports that platform.
-
Debian supports that platform.
Didn't they lose that when they switched to systemd?
-
NEW CHALLENGE: port systemd to BIT
-
No, I'm pretty sure that just meant they stopped offering a BSD kernel as an option on it.

Penny Arcade made that joke, only funnier and years earlier:
It lacks the irony caused by the surveillance state having assumed that we do anything interesting.
-

Somehow that guy looks like the Apple equivalent of a KGB agent.
that we do anything interesting.
Interest is subjective.

At some point, one of the la

At some point, one of the lawyers has to be implemented in Excel.
Oh come on! I'm no fan of Microsoft, but not even they are that evil.
-
I won't be satisfied until I have VM:Ouroboros, in which a virtual machine runs on itself.
-
I've tried to install VMWare on a VMWare machine once. Didn't find out how to get that done, VMWare seems to scan the virtual hardware.
Installing a VM system on a VM of a different system worked fine. Cancelled installation of MS DOS on inner machine after a week or so.
-
Can you alternate between VirtualBox and VMWare, then?
