Do you believe in Discourse? If so, clap your hands and we'll have server cooties until morning!

how have server cooties been in the last few days?
-
To be honest, I wouldn't know. I've been stuck in meetings most of the time, or listening to stuff on the Song of the Day thread (or linked from there) which needs very little help from the site.
-
I haven't noticed any since the last update.
-
havent noticed much lately. and we've been using autoclosing topics again so your fix for that seems to have taken.
-
I haven't noticed any. I think the topic closing was the main culprit (until we fill the disk again, of course).

Welcome back to the Dota 2 Asia Championship, powered by Discourse eSports.

You can do that? o.O

I remember we had to petition for Jeff to make it work, but yes, we have it.

The first version would send a new page request to YouTube literally EVERY LETTER YOU TYPED IN YOUR POST. (In addition to stripping timecodes from video URLs.)
It's amazing YouTube didn't blacklist every Discourse user for DDoS.
-
It still does weird stuff when oneboxing. Try typing a URL in and take a peek at the dev console - there will be a nice pyramid of requests to /onebox.rb or something like that ending with 404s and differing by one letter each.
I sure hope the backend checks the whitelist first...

..... wait people type those suckers in rather than just cutting and pasting whole from the clipboard?
-
Um, when you know a URL, do you first open a new tab, type it there, and then copy and paste it here, or do you just type it in here?
-
not a common use case for me here, but i'll admit to typing it in raw if i have it memorized to beyond a reasonable doubt.

There was just 15 minutes or so of downtime. we were 100% out of disk space, we have fixes in the pipeline for the reasons this happened

Again perf on SSH is really really super sketchy, I am able to do stuff normally for a minute and then it stalls, something is odd about this droplet @apapadimoulis

Say what you will about Discourse, but I have yet to find another forum software with so many ways to make text rotate.

I don't always close my tags.
But when I do, Duckwhores screws it up anyway.

But, the plot thickens:

I call it awesome-sauce.
Picking on duckwhores' deficiencies is the only reason I keep coming back.

But we know you're not. Also, you're talking about Discourse (sorta) ;)

Last time I checked, I was not the personification of Discourse.

I know; I was talking about the whole clicking-avatar thing…

No. Sorry, no. Fuck this shit. That is not a fucking explanation.
We can't figure this shit out. We can't figure it out.
A bunch of fucking programmers and nerds (including maths nerds) can't figure this fucking piece of shit software out!
I've been doing this Internet thing for decades now.
I used fucking modems.
I used mailing lists. I used news clients. I used everything from IRC, through ICQ, MSN, Java serverlet or whatever the fuck you call them chats and 17 gazzilion XMPP-based online chat systems of today.
I used phpBB, I used SMF, I used fucking CS.
I used plaintext, HTML, BBCode and used to know fucking Morse.
You know what? I should be able to figure this fucking forum platform out. I'm not a complete and utter idiot. And yet, after all this fucking time, almost every fucking day, I utter this phrase at least once:
WHAT THE FUCK?
There. There's your fucking site / forum title. Discourse. Discourse is my daily WTF.
Fuck.
The new Like rate limiting is well-received.

For posterity:
If I was running a website, and I saw performance like this, I'd be wanting to commit hari-kiri by now. This isn't just the odd bit of downtime; this is a systemic failure. And yet… nothing seems to be being done about it!Post is now not empty.
