Steam's dumb monster clicking game (was: everything on Steam is broken.) (Everything on Steam is still broken, though.)
-
In theory yes, but all I ever get is "there was a problem trying to join this game" because Steam is broken trash.
Ben L's almost 1000 now, but I can't join him.
-
Ok so I'm in a game with approximately 1500 players, and it's level 547, I've been in it since 9:30ish AM, and I don't have a single trading card.
So... I don't get it.
Yesterday I got 2 trading cards within a minute of joining the game.
"Also I'm 100% against gamification, suck it Dickhorse!"
-
Well, I dunno about everyone else's games, but it seems like everyone in my game bought Rain of Gold powerups and uses them on the boss's lane every time we have a boss. Edit: Using the badge points they got from the previous day.
I know there were several occasions when I was there when a boss came up and I was getting 100k+ per click on the boss. Needless to say, you can really ramp up the damage with that much.
-
You know you can sell Steam cards for Steam Wallet funds, right?
-
"Also I'm 100% against gamification, suck it Dickhorse!"
I have $5.20 from selling cards, fuck you.
If Discourse paid me money or gave me free games I might have a different opinion of it.
-
That's what I've been seeing in my game too, except the number per click hits 200k minimum, highest I've seen is 600k per click.
-
It looks like basically the only variables are:
-
How early the game was created, and
-
Whether it's at the 1500 player cap
The only chance I have of joining Ben L's game is if someone in it leaves, but they won't because it's probably the highest-level game. And you can't migrate up because the higher games are all full anyway.
SO ANYWAY VALVE'S REALLY GOOD AT DESIGNING VIDEO GAMES GUYZ!
-
-
I had no problems joining a game on first click.
But i do seem to be waiting for another 200 people...
EDIT: oh, i see. I can't join my friends game because he's 200 levels above me -_-
EDIT2: that cost me ~150 levels to find out - i could not rejoin my previous game after leaving that one... ffs
edit3: and all my items are gone. This is a silly game..
-
I joined my game by waiting until the previous game ended, refreshing every few minutes until the "we're doing maintenance, check back in a few minutes" text turned into a button, and then clicking the button one time. It worked on my first try today.
-

Sounds like it's all worth it then.
If Discourse paid me money or gave me free games I might have a different opinion of it.
This reminds me of the last episode of Royal Pains. Evan recalled how during college he needed some money so he went to a sperm bank. Easy money! It later was revealed that he wanted money to buy a particularly awesome sandwich at a local restaurant. I don't think your cards would have covered the sandwich.
-
You can't even buy a sandwich with that "money". Only things with $0 production cost are available.
-
Noooooo Ben L is almost twice my level in dumb monster game!
Also I only got 2 cards yesterday.
-
When I got into a game this morning it got to level 170 in less than 5 minutes.
-
I got in a bit late but joined a friend's game. We're at level 242 at 18 minutes in. Oh, you're in the same game I'm in.
Also, I got the first card for today before the page for the game had even loaded anything.
-
I'm jealous, I think I got into the game with all the dumb fucks.
Which is weird as it was right after the game reset, you'd think it'd have people who knew what they were doing.
-
I got russian!
Filed Under: Also German but thats normal since I was too lazy to tell my laptop-steam to switch languages
Also Filed Under: Also, yes, it's only lvl 485. I don't care!
-
Get a railgun already!
-
Surely you mean a
рэйлган
?Also, is the railgun the one where you still have to click? Because for the next round I figured I might go on with the automatic cannon all the way and then leave the game
Filed Under: Thanks, google translate
-
Also, is the railgun the one where you still have to click?
Yeah, that. But railguns are cool!
-
Next time I'll just join blakeyrats game and let him pull me. That should give me enough money to buy all the railguns!
Filed Under: His game is lvl 5k...
Addendum: Nope, another person on my steamlist has lvl 15k.... so I'll probably bother him!
-
I'm just at 866 ...
-
turn on my click macro when people use "raining money" on the bosses.
cash racks up to several hundred million
boss dies
cash gets reset to several thousand
-
It has a very Discourse-y "update the local UI even though the server hasn't returned data yet" feel to it.
-
New day, new game, old bug:
-
This morning when I joined I got five card drops.
It looks like Valve fixed the cause of the missing cards, and gave me all my backlogged cards.
-
I kinda wish games didn't reset in the middle of my work day... I can't join a game until about 6 hours after rollover (later tonight due to having to stop at grocery store after work).
(I also only have a dumb phone 'cause I'm cheap)
-
The game blakey and I are in is a bit ridiculous:
The only rounds that seem to last any significant time are the boss rounds, but farily often I'll see it jump 2 or 3 levels at a time.
-
The highest game I'm aware of was around 15,000. This game is on-track to approach or beat that record, woo.
Of course each day you get more and more powerful powerups to use, so. And half the drops reduce cooldowns. It would be weirder if every day didn't break the last day's record.

Unless you get in a game full of fucktards like I did Sunday. Since the number of things you can buy at game start is based on the highest level a game you were in reached (or so it looks), I started with the same number of points on Monday as I did on Sunday. Despite the game starting within minutes of the day reset. Also, when did Valve make it so you can only join games started within the last 10 minutes? Now you have no choice but to start in a low level game.

My assumption is that they solved the "nobody can join games" problem by resetting/turning on a game server every 10 minutes throughout the day.
-
go home steam, you're drunk
-
Why are your base prices -25% compared to ours? (USD 3.74 vs USD 5.00)
-
I'd love to get me some United Stated Dollars Dollars.
-
Well, you could buy the first pack and get one cent back.
-
I'll take about three fiddy
-
Goddamn Loch Ness monster!
-
-
So, when I started the game today, it gave me two cards. I'm up to 12 cards for playing the game, and I've played it every day except the first day of the sale.
That means they've given me 12 cards for 5 days of the game. But, at the same time, their FAQ has the weasel words "up to" for how many cards per day the game will give.
-
Well IIRC the old system was 1 card a day. Each poll was 1/3rd of a card, and there were 3 polls a day. So this game gives you more cards on average. And, as an added bonus, you only have to log into Steam once a day to join it, not every 8 hours.
So it's better than previous sales, card-wise.

Stalker series for 14€. Get? Don't get? Buy elsewhere?

You can get the first game on BundleStars for 3 euro.
Also, finally got Euro Truck Simulator 2. Only for it to turn out that all new mods require a DLC priced higher than the base game. Ugh.
First impression is kinda cool though.

It's one of those games where you think 'Really? How can this be fun?'. Then you later look at the time and realise you've just played it for five hours straight
-
...shouldn't this stuff go in one of the other two topics about game deals?
-
Scratch that, here's more ridiculous:
And I have 30 wormholes bought that I'm still waiting to use because boss rounds are still just flying by.
Given the escalation, I'm assuming you'll just see the highest level games jumping so insanely high compared to the previous day. Highest game I had on my friends list yesterday was only in the 50k range when they ended.
Also, we are having a lot of people get wormholes off, I just watched us jump from 87000 to 87430s after killing the boss.
-
You can use them any time, and boss rounds are like... 66% of rounds after level 25k or so. So there's no point sitting on them.
-
I've yet to have a chance to actively "play" beyond about 3 minutes an hour after the game started.
Also, wormholes jump 10 levels instead of 1 if they're used on a boss level that ends in 00.
-
I don't have the free time to watch for that to happen, I just click to the tab, hit the wormhole button approximately once every 5 mins or so, then get back to work.
Anyway I'm in a loser game today because I was schmoozing with the CTO at 9:05 instead of refreshing Steam.
-
Ben L joined my loser game today full of losers.
A guy on my friend's list has a level of 136,550.
-

There's a userscript on Reddit that basically bots the game for you, including the recasting of abilities that came out of cooldown at optimal times, timing wormholes, etc. Friend of a friend joined a game full of botting players and already made it to level 1,300,000 apparantly.
The actual Steam badge doesn't go higher than 300,000+ though and the maximum account XP it will ever give you is 200, which a level 200 badge will already do, iirc. Everything else is just vanity stuff.
-
Why are all the players in the games I'm ending up joining so pathologically afraid of money?
"Oh no, it's a boss! Better lob all the nukes at it! Nevermind that it has 4 Raining Gold stacked up and each click earns us like 15-20 times as much as a spawner death, no kill it now!"
"Level 999? Oh, better use that wormhole I've been saving! "
"Aww, I keep getting dead seconds after a resurrection! Is that because I've been carried this whole way but still can't afford a single scrap of armor?"
ughhhh....
