I took a bite, and oh foly huck, all of a sudden Czesław Miłosz stał mi przed oczami i potrząsając mnie za plecy, zaczął coś nawijać o apokaliptycznych wizjach dla świata, o wierze i o moralności, kurwa, ja pierdolę, że niech to chuj, czy nie leżało mu się w ziemi spokojnie? I od tego czasu zapomniałem wszystkich języków, oprócz polskiego. Pewnie, te michałki były przeklęte...

Sure. If you happen to look at that closely, you'll see the most liberal parts of the state are the only places where there are Democrats. This basically means south Dallas, Austin, the border with Mexico, and so on.

If you look closely that's how Democrats get elected in red states these days.

Meh, sometimes you make a mistake and start too high. That might or might not be a signal that you didn't want to work for that place anyway.

Conversely sometimes you open with an offer too low, and lose the job, too.

Some of those guys are legacies. For example, before 1990 or so, Texas was what we would today call a Blue state; but the Democrats lost their grip on power. Interestingly, a number of people in office at that time switched parties, like the guy who was my rep when I moved here. He was a Democrat for 50 years and then switched in 2004.
