There are no shortcuts to the perfect sound. [was Accalia needs a new set of headphones. Suggestions?]

i dind't mean the original midi. i meant literally that song.
-
If it walks like a midi and sounds like a midi, you should check to see if you were yelling "you kids get off my lawn" this morning.
-
i find it funny!
my previous ring tone was static in g major.

i find it funny!
Maybe so, but I like to imagine that everyone who has the default ringtone walks through life with a slightly befuddled air.
-
People with the default ringtone from another phone more so.

My phone sounds a phone when it rings. Well, not a truly old school bell, mind you, but not none of this fancy music stuff, either.

I keep my phone on silent now, after a few too many spam calls in the middle of meetings.

I have no idea what my ringtone is, my phone is always on vibrate.

LCD?
GET OFF MY LAWN YOU CRAZY KIDS WITH YOUR LCDS AND YOUR MP3s
robble robble robble
-
O_o
You know cell phones have had graphical LCD displays since before I got my first one 12 years ago, right? And that regular ones had not-really-graphical ones long before that? "Old man" act denied.

When did you last yell "get off my lawn"?
Somehow I imagine @boomzilla doing that daily ...
-
From experience in being in China, and Chinatown, etc. Oriental people don't actually have kids. They clone their children from age 12. I've never seen a toddler in a store.
Maybe they just keep them locked until they can interact with society in a meaningful way, like every proper parent should.

When did you last yell "get off my lawn"?
Probably last summer. There aren't as many kids out when it gets colder.
-
Does it have a black-and-white LCD, too?
No, it's color. I've linked it before:

Not even the ones who build snowmen?

The innocent differences in culture...
Honestly, it's not all that important. Both cultures have successfully raised children. Why do we have to rate and compare....
-
It's more the dogs on my lawn that become a problem.
... no offense.

Well, the Chinese seem better at it. Or at least more productive...
-

The trick with that is to collect what the dog leaves behind, and put it on the owner's doorstep. Preferably in a paper bag that you set on fire.
-
Really, because all they seem to be doing is hiding their failures.
Only educating a portion of their society allows them to claim higher success rates.
Producing children with high productivity but low ingenuity makes other countries artificially jealous.
Honestly, the incapability to think critically is what fucked up our country already. Don't need to adopt more of that.
(But again, these are two different cultures with two different values. It's hard to compare which is "better", because the goal is different)

if you're going to be evil don't mess about.
What evil? Flaming dog shit on someone's front step is justifiable behavior modification in this circumstance!

2 weeks ago. Neighbor kids were in my yard — right where I needed to blow the snow because of the way the wind was blowing.

grrrrrr...... and i just bought the new pair too..... now they go on sale?

Necroing a bit since I am also on the market for new headphones.
My requirements:
- Over the ear
- USB connection (only damn thing that works on mac since the mic in is really a "line in")
- Foldable/Squashable since I will need to carry them with me to and from work
- Microphone-on-a-stick
Your PX21's seem to fit the bill, unclear on items 2 and 3 though. How doth they fare on these two points?
-

That's not actually true. They support (well, mine does) a normal mic provided it connects in via a four connection headphone jack, instead of the more common three connection stereo headphone jack, and provided you've not switched the mic off when you plug it in (or the autodetect hardware misses out on the fact that the mic is there and so the OS ends up knowing nothing about it).
You can get adapters online for not very much money at all. I have one of these and it does the job exactly.

it might be a little upscale for an office environment but this is the headset i use on my gaming rig and it is both awesome and appears to fit all of your criteria:

It's swedish taxpayers' money at work; upscale is not an issue. ;-)
Thanks for the tip!
-
It's swedish taxpayers' money at work;
ah. in that case see if you can ge the gold plated special edition one. :-D that 24 karat gold really sells it!
-
It uses USB for microphone connection, but uses line out headphone jack for audio.
I think that voice audio might also come through the USB, I have two audio volume knobs, so I'll have to try that. But, it doesn't fold. It's not something you want to carry into ridiculously small spaces (like a European corner coffee shop), having two cables and all that.
That doesn't mean you can't carry it, just consider a case. It is in no way heavy at all.I mean, it is so much value for the price, I have to recommend it highly.
If you have a Best Buy around you, you might luck out and find it on a trial display. It would be in the game console section. But check the return policy. It might be worth it to buy and expect to return next day, if they'll let you return it unwrapped.
-
like a European corner coffee shop
What is a "European coffee corner"? Is it some kind of euphemism?
-
I don't know.
Those little barely the size of my living room, rooms at the corner of a paris building that has just enough room for a bar, and a few chairs that I can fit half my butt on.

@accalia needs to buy some Grado Labs SR-40s, SR-60s, or SR-80s.
The SR-60s and SR-80s are both very good. Originally, the SR-60s were the "budget" model (at about $60). Then they came out with the SR-40s (at about $50), which use the same drivers as the SR-60s. They're made from the same kind of plastic as a good pair of sunglasses -- so they're super sturdy.
I used to have a pair of behind-the-head SR-40s, but I can't for the life of me find proof that they ever existed.
-
Not unless you're Dutch.

Grado Labs SR-40s, SR-60s, or SR-80s.
I have mixed feelings. I have two pairs of the 80s (one SR-80, one SR-80i, to be specific).I like them a lot, but not without reservations:
- I find them mechanically uncomfortable to wear for long periods; they put pressure on the ears instead of on your head surrounding your ears.
- They do almost nothing at blocking outside sound; this is as much a positive as a negative in general, but there are some circumstances where blocking is desirable.
- I consider them fairly flimsy. I've dropped mine a few times; one time one of the drivers popped out and I had to send it in for repair.1 The glue also came undone one one of the earphones (I forget if this was from a drop, it might have just happened) and the halves separated; I tried putting it back together with a hot glue gun but botched it a bit and it's not together enough and is all wonky new.
I also have a pair of Senn HD-280s, and they have pretty much taken over from my Grados for the above reasons. They have a slightly different sound, but both are really good and I'd be hard pressed to say one is better than the other.
1 OTOH, this was pretty painless. How often have you heard someone sending something in for actual repairs (not replacement) less expensive than an appliance?
-
These are the ones I had:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KN0YEY
They were definitely sturdy. I used them in a factory for over a year (and many years before then). They got loud enough to use effectively over ear plugs. But they also sounded Grado good. The form-factor made them not suffer from the comfort problem you mentioned. (But they could get kind of uncomfortable if you fell asleep with them on)
I don't have experience with the SR-80s, but I'm sure your points (good and bad) are fair.
I don't know if Grado has a new model for this type. I hope so. I will be shopping for a new pair soon.
