For the record, i whitelist *.thedailywtf.com and *.reddit.com
I clicked the "allow non-obtrusive ads" option and I often see the "Thanks for not blocking ads!" pretend ad on Reddit. That's as much effort as I can be bothered putting in.

"allow non-obtrusive ads"
i also have that checked.
you want to serve adds that don't annoy me by trying to crawl all up in my face? i'll reward you by not blocking them.

Linux does require a license. It may be a free open source license, but you still have to agree to it. Or your employer may need to do so on your behalf - check your policies.

Isn't NoScript good enough for that?
Ever since I installed NoScript on my home PC, I never felt the urge to block any ads.

far too many sites utterly break with noscript.
i'd like to use it but it's like designers these days in a fit of Web2.0 stopped caring about user experience with degraded browsers...

That's what whitelisting is for >.>
Yes, it takes some work at first, but you'll have all the important sites whitelisted after a while.

-shrug-
sure, but until then i's have to whitelist the sites and..... well i visit a LOT of sites!

Javascript is pretty essential to the modern Web. Disabling it and complaining that things don't work is kind of like unplugging your keyboard and moaning about how hard it is to write a novel with just the mouse.
ISTM that the main reason for people to use NoScript is because they like complaining, and it gives an opportunity to complain about almost every website

Get rid of ads by breaking 99% of all sites, spend lots of time whitelisting, then get ads on all the white listed sites? Sounds ideal!
Seriously, I'll never understand the reasoning behind turning js off - it's like using a trebuchet to swat a fly.

Get rid of ads
HTML5 ads (and flash ads).
Non-intrusive images and texts are unaffected because those don't use JS.
Many ads' scripts are served from external URLs which don't get whitelisted together with the website's scripts.Oh, and before I complain about a site breaking, I temporarily enable all scripts on the site and see if it still doesn't work before complaining.

HTML5 ads (and flash ads).
flashblock takes care of these. as for the text and image ones. i don't mind them so much. adblock takes care of the most annoying ones and for the rest.... whatever. ;-)

The whole process just sounds several thousand percent more annoying than ads themselves, but to each their own.

If only Anonymous would pick a site like this to DDOS, and become a positive contribution to society.
