StackExchange OpenID nonsense -- or making a legitimate usecase technically impossible.

Warning: meta SO (well SE) link below, for those who have SO allergies.
Apparently you cannot disassociate one StackOverflow or StackExchange account from your network profile -- which is a real piece of buggery, if you ask me, considering how many different StackExchange subsites there are these days...
-
And the only answer is basically 'we did this really fundamental massive thing and couldn't be arsed to tell you about it because you're just plebs who should be grateful you get to suck on the teat of Atwood's amazeballs designing skillz'.
Or something.

I forgot / lost the credentials to my SO account years ago. It's tied to my real name, and I haven't had an impulse to do anything other than follow google links there for ages.
About the only thing I did was play some occasional golf.

CodeReview and Programmers are fairly good ones to hang around.
-
Ain't nobody (here) got time for that.

You're already HERE!

Yet Another Organization Run By Idiots Who Don't Understand That People Have More Than One Identity. (And BTW, not just online. The Bob you see at Church on Sunday morning isn't the same Bob you see with the biker gang on Friday night.)

I wonder if this is some new species of brain worm that you have discovered, similar in morphology and infection patterns to Everything is a Phone?

I have no idea, but at least it's relatively harmless there. When Google pulled that shit with Google+ and YouTube (and especially Buzz, if you remember that), they really screwed over a lot of people.
-
Thanks to that nonsense I somehow have three or four different YouTube accounts.
-
Agreed there -- having to use incognito mode simply to have a second (pseudonymous) Google/G+ account that isn't tied to your first is a nuisance, to say the least.
-

I used to post a lot on Programmers, but most of the best questions were getting closed because they were too subjective, not a discussion forum, etc., so I left.
-
The YouTube thing is EVEN DUMBER because they were trying to take what is a Many-To-Many relationship (creators and shows-- one creator can have multiple shows, and one show can have multiple creators) and cram it into a One-To-One relationship which makes no goddamned sense.
So you get creators who just run like 27 different YouTube channels, one for each type of video they make. And if they need to collaborate? Well, you're either just fucked, or you make YouTube channel number 28 and share login info. Which is technically against Google policies and in theory at least can get the channel summarily closed.
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!
-
-
MONEH! NOM NOM NOM!
How did they get money from that? How? How, even in theory could they potentially have gotten money from that?
-
Possibly also, "Hey, considering our company's motto is 'Don't be evil', we can safely be evil and say that people are misunderstanding us!"
-

I dunno... magic pixies?Edit: Or that
-
Maybe it lets them more accurately characterize their users. That ought help them make more money, since all of it comes from advertising where better information may help.

If you use chrome, just use the Users feature, It allows you to set up multiple Chrome profiles under a single OS login. I find it really useful for managing multiple gmail accounts.
-
And this is why I have like seven google accounts on my phone.
-
Dude. How could you not set that up as "frist user"?

That's the default name. CBA to change it.

Maaaybe? ... but I honestly still doubt it.
99% of Google+ accounts are either completely blank, or just have automated notifications you can't really turn off ("X has uploaded a new YouTube video!"). So there's no actual data coming in there.
I guess that might have been Google's intent. Because apparently they never heard of "user testing" or "pilot programs" or "not fucking with stuff that already works pretty damn well honestly".
-
Well, then we're back to my other suggestion. They like to tick people off and point at the 'Don't be evil' sign on their wall.
-
I used to post a lot on Programmers, but most of the best questions were getting closed because they were too subjective, not a discussion forum, etc., so I left.
The dumb thing is, Programmers was originally pitched as the alternative to StackOverflow for subjective programming questions.

Yes, but Jeff saw it becoming this place, and stopped it. He's still mad that this place got to exist anyway.
