The new Gmail app update
-
Mostly I don't mind the new look, but the icons for copy/cut/etc. have been getting more and more obscure in every update. Presumably this is what we have to look forward to in Lollipop, with "material design".
See if you can guess what the icons mean at the top of the screen here:
Picture removed because it has my email address in it and I don't know how to delete the whole post on mobile

Select all / Deselect. & Copy?
-
I've never understood this icons. I simply know what each one does and push them at will.
-
I don't understand why Gmail uses different icons from the rest of Android.
-
probably has something to do with lollipop.....
-
Consistency is over-rated or whatever.
I suspect it'll have the same icons as the rest of Lollipop, but don't have a Lollipop device yet to confirm.
-
I think it looks like shit. The discoverability is worse, and I have 6-7 accounts, and navigating between them is far worse. It looks like a big, red, throbbing dildo.
-
Why can't it wait to update the icons until it's in lollipop?
-
because,..... dunno. i want to know why they can't just use sytem icons do JB get JB icons, KK get KK icons and LP gets LP icond....
-
Exactly! That's exactly what it should be doing!
-
yes, but .....
nope. i've got no defense...
-
i want to know why they can't just use sytem icons
Or use text, instead of stupid little icons that mean nothing

Or use text, instead of stupid little icons that mean nothing
The question: Use text that must be translated into every language known to mankind, or use icons that are meaningless in any language?
-
Just updated. Initial reaction is that it seems like a step back. When you open the menu to switch between email accounts, it seems like you should be able to swipe side to side to get an overview of each account, but that just closes the window. Meh, I hope I get used to it.

Or use text
Which, interestingly, is one of the things I quite like in WP8. From the initial release, the...
button puts text under all the icons.

I am so glad I am an Apple user for mobile
