I think it's because when Sam said you probably don't act that way "in real life" you replied

I think I'm starting to fit the pieces together here though. Did you actually mean to say, "ranting at people for trying to test undo on Discourse?" Because that way it makes sense.

Yes, sorry, forgot I was attempting communication with you I guess. I thought it was obvious in the context of the thread and discussion.

    @blakeyrat said:

which he read as a "rant" at Jaloopa for undoing

  • @boomzilla said:

Yes, sorry, forgot I was attempting communication with you I guess.

But see, this is my exact confusion. Do you read these two phrases as being identical:

ranting at people for trying to undo stuff?

    <poo>

ranting at people for trying to test undo on Discourse?

Because to me, they're entirely different.

I love people trying to undo stuff. I wish more people used undo more often. I wish it worked in more places. And that's what my response to the first version was, and that's why I was confused at you suggesting that I'd "rant" at people doing that.

If people don't know what something I type means, I'd appreciate them asking for clarification instead of just making-up bullshit and then re-posting the bullshit all over as if it were fact.

I don't recall ever holding a gun to anybody's head and saying, "you're not allowed to ask me for clarification if you're confused!"

this is the exact quote i was referring to when i stated that blakey had said we get the real blakeyrat not a persona.

that statement is grammatically ambiguous and i should not have taken it as literally as i did without further confirmation from blakeyrat. I did not do this and as such drew wrong conclusions that have since caused harm to blakeyrat, for which i sincerely apologize. It has never been my intention to cause hurt to any member of thedailywtf.

    [sidenote]
how does one capitalize a username? blakeyrat as a username is lowercase but the rules of English grammar say that proper names are capitalized. does one follow the rules of grammar or does one use the name as written?

  • Oh come on, this thread has just shown that Yamikuronue didn't know what you meant by it, either.

You can admit wrong, it's ok.

    Thank you.

Generally the rule is, whatever somebody says their name is, that's their name. If you want to capitalize blakeyrat, I really don't care (I do it myself most of the time), but I'm guessing the "most" polite thing would be to type it exactly as it was entered into the software's name field.

    Hmmm...let's have a look:

blakeyrat: Congratulations. You "tricked" me into making a bug report? Kind of? In a horribly circuitous way?

boomzilla: Well, I thought we were all trying out undo stuff and seeing what was broken and what wasn't until you started ranting at people for trying to undo things.

Eh, seems like it should be clear that it was more than jaloopa. The context doesn't even require going back further than the start of the sentence: "we were all trying out undo stuff and seeing what was broken." Yeah, you were angry because we tried different things than what you had in mind.

I just don't see how I'm wrong here. I'm happy to admit when I am, though.

  • Wow, this is the worst flame war ever. Come on, at least give me some politics or feminism or SOMETHING.

  • Well you still inserted the word "completely" into my sentence when repeating it back. That was wrong.

(And I still don't get how you consider those two quotes are the same thing. But I'll just drop that, because I'm starting to think you're just insane on that matter.)

Let me guess, "completely broken" and "broken" mean the exact same thing to you, right?

At least you're finally admitting to all this bullshit. It took some doing, but.

Well, people suck at re-thinking what their brain is reading into things. Which means they just don't even think in any way that they might be wrong and just see their interpretation as the obvious truth.

I do that a lot. The "trusting my interpretation too much" part.

It was more the part about "never" as an intensifier that did it for me.

  • @boomzilla said:

"never' Isn't an intensifier, it's a statement of duration. Again, I really have no idea how you read things the way you do. If I say I never have gone skydiving, does that mean I really hate skydiving? Because to me, it means... uh... I never have gone skydiving. Clue me in. I don't get how your brain works. Do you have a Boomzilla Thesaurus somewhere I can look at?

An intensifier is something like, "really" or "extremely" or "astoundingly". FYI.

Undo only works for stuff you type in. Pasted images, quotes, formatting using the buttons do not.

Which, when I wrote it, rendered as a kerned ">>" and "<<"

but is now shown in my browser as ≫ and ≪

I go to reply, and renders properly in the preview pane, naturally.

So let's hit the reply and see what happens this time...

EDIT: and now I look (more) insane, because, now it renders properly again... loverly.

EDIT2: and now it doesn't render properly (here). So, the question, up my dosage of crazy pills, or lower the dosage?

There are also some bugs coming up with undoing back to the quote reply then redoing, but I can't replicate it when trying to get some repro steps.

I did manage to get some quite crazy jumbles of text in there though

  • @codinghorror said:

The issue is the same issue it was when I first brought it up:

Undo doesn't work here and never has.

Sure, you're using the default browser Undo behavior now, which is great, but it still doesn't work. And other sites that inject text into TEXTAREAs manage to make Undo work fine, so something Discourse is doing is breaking Undo. (Although someone up-thread said it worked in Firefox, so there's that at least.)

    Yes, that.
