A very moving performance, especially thanks to the conductor.
However, that same conductor rushed it. For anyone clicking the link: it's supposed to last longer than 3 and a half minutes, so don't be surprised when this is a bit on the short side.
-
@JBert I don't know if I could have withstood the intensity if they hadn't stepped up the tempo to match.

I don't understand guttural vocals, and I think they ruin many songs I'd really like otherwise. Same goes for bass drum abuse.
But they seem to be popular, so who am I to judge?

They are an aquired taste, but once you 'get it', they are great. Same with falsetto.
Both sometimes have a function, btw, like portraying specific character or state of mind.

The falsetto, I have difficulty admitting as the best option, but it evokes. The guttural is generally an evocation of the beast or a similar archetype, and blast beats evoke a challenge to the will. Consider also the use of the screaming/guttural voice in Welcome To The Black Parade and The Death And Resurrection Show, these aren't even metal uses, they're more of the nature of an underscored repetition, evoking painful sincerity.

The original music compositions are brilliant to get such a lush atmosphere with the hardware of then, but it sounds janky ever since I've heard the Special Edition versions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fj5pIpjS14&start=1888s&end=2046s
I guess it loses a bit of the mod-tune charm, but then these audio recordings can completely skirt around all of the limitations of that old hardware.

Not the same crazy-weird modern music I mentioned in another thread:

This week a crazed fellow jumped over the counter at MoMA and stabbed two people. Then he fled to Philadelphia where he set his hotel room on fire. If you want to appreciate what was going on in his mind just look at this score. [Preview image, in case YT embed is broken.] This is the notation of madness. I hope you never feel this way.
Uh, it's just compactly expressed - what's the problem?

Paging @Zecc -- does this count as "bass drum abuse"?
I actually
liketolerate this song more than you'd think, including the voice. I have no explanation for this.

@Gribnit Probably ja. That's pretty much their shtick.
Eh, would like to see the old bastards' theatrics and pyrotechnics again live. I've got tickets for the next month's (from 2020), but it's 300 km away and I had totally forgotten about booking a place to stay. Will have to sell

Amusing, but a bit too much parlando and not enough background music for my taste.
Maybe the "Dumb and Random Videos Thread" would have been a better fit?
