I'm deliberately trying to stay from this site because I want to see how far this goes and I don't want to fuck up my notifications. Just wanted to give you an update.
-
Also, DC is slow as shit in incognito mode.
-
Almost there...And I think it goes without saying that if somebody actually wants my attention they're shit outta luck.

Eh...someone can always send a PM to @mikeTheLiar

Once this hits triple digits I'm done with this game.

@mikeTheLiar is quitting? He's the worst of the worst!

Did we do it? =D

-
WHOOOOOO!
Hells yeah @mikeTheLiar!

On behalf of my fellow forumites, I want to thank you, @mikeTheLiar for being the honorary sacrifice FOR SCIENCE!

That would drive me nuts. I can't handle outstanding notifications of any kind, I must click them all away.

The suggested topics list has defeated me:I guess I could stop tracking all topics, but where's the fun in that?
-
Pick a topic, press the green progress bar, press bottom. Job done.
-
That's cheating!
-
In absence of a little known feature that some other forums have, that I think is called a 'mark all read' button, I don't know what else to suggest?
-
Actually reading the posts?
-
Also, DC is slow as shit in incognito mode.
Weird, if anything it should be way faster, first hit is slow cause it has to grab a ton of assets.
-
-
We have mark all read, scroll to the bottom of your unread list.
-
That's nicely intuitive.
-
Mixed feelings about moving it permanently to the top as well, it will clutter up the page.
-
What happens when the old CS forum is migrated here and there are thousands of unread topics? Do we get them all marked read for us? Do we have to infiniscroll through that lot?
I get what you're saying, but putting it down there is only viable for short unread lists. Putting above and below would probably be more discoverable but yes, cluttered unless you have something else to hang it off.
-
I will chuck it on top if you have more than N unread / new unless @codinghorror objects which I think he will not.
-
Sounds perfectly reasonable thank you!
Also, woot, I got likes back!
-

I saw lots and lots of spinning, and a lot of broken image avatars. Once the thread had finished "loading" (insofar as anything in Discourse is finished loading), scrolling past the loaded replies resulted in more spinning. Probably ~5 minutes for the initial load, then ~45 seconds for each additional chunk of posts.

Real weird, (just tried incodnito and seemed fine) if you try again does the same issue repeat?

Hmm, interesting. On my home PC it works fine, it's actually much faster (as you noted). On my work PC it was a dog.
Specs for both if you care:
Home PC
Internet: 25 MBps
8 gb ram
6 core CPU, 3.3 GHzWork PC:
Internet: 60 MBps
16 gb ram
4 core CPU, don't know speed off the top of my headAlso, the GPU in my home PC is significant'y more powerful than my work PC. Dunno if/why that would matter, but there you have it.
-
It could have been a timing thing, maybe you just caught it mid upgrade or something.

Now we just need to necro @mikeTheLiar as well. Or is he actually active somewhere where I don't see him?

He is probably occupied trying to keep up with his notifications
-
@fbmac
I wonder who's had more notifications recently, @mikeTheLiar or @darkmatter
-
@izzion I'm sure it's @mikeTheLiar.
-
@sloosecannon After all, if @mikeTheLiar isn't getting notified all the time, we're doing it wrong.
-
@sloosecannon
Yeah, but with @darkmatter being kind of a recent replacement for @mikeTheLiar, it might be possible that @darkmatter is leading in recent notifications. Especially since @darkmatter is active in the Likes Thread and @mikeTheLiar isn'tFiled under: Too bad you don't get multiple notifications for several mentions in the same post
