As for the color difference, the difference between the white background and very pale background is almost invisible on my LCD monitor at a normal viewing angle. I have to look at the monitor from quite an extreme angle for the difference to become obvious. No, it's not some cheap-ass monitor, either; it's a pretty good quality Dell.
If there's a color difference I can't see it on my monitors even at extreme viewing angles. I also have Dells but no idea if they're considered quality or not.

You also can't see the grey of quotes? It's the same grey.
You need monitors that cost more than $20, or aren't actually broken.
Get some new ones. Seriously. Get a new monitor.

I'm not buying new monitors for my PC at work just for TDWTF's new forums.

It's a reasonable request!

They would have to be portrait mode, with infinite height.

Why can't i like my own posts? >:(
This is the internet; I am not bound by the physical constraints of my spine's flexibility.
But you can flag your own posts. So you better watch yourself.

Actually that made me miss Microsoft Bob. At least it didn't take itself that seriously.
This thing is just wrong.

Of course! I got a fat settlement because they wanted to keep it out of court.

Thanks for warm welcome. I am loving this unlimited scrolling, unlike some haters on here. I am making 164th post.

Well, that seals it: it's an awful feature.

I really have to agree with the critics. This whole interface is ridden with silly "hey-look-how-cool-and-minimalistic-we-are" annoyances. Like on the "front" page, you can't know what the two rightmost columns mean until you hover your mouse on them. And to save what, 4 words? And everything's like this.
Still, I suppose we could get used to it. I can personally deal with bad interfaces, as long as they're somewhat consistent.

The eye is beautiful. The man holding goat is our revered leader Chandra babu Naidu.

In western world people have heard of Hyderabad and Chandra Babu. Are you living under some rock, where access to local newspapers is prohibited and dailywtf is the only source of information?

Was that Strong Bad's cousin?
Chandra Babu
O_o
Are you living under some rock, where access to local newspapers is prohibited and dailywtf is the only source of information?
Newspapers aren't prohibited, it's just that nobody publishes or reads them any more. So, yes, TDWTF is my only source of information.

You're providing much source of amusement for me and my college over here. Should I thank for playing or curses you for being irrupting? I am finding it hard to decide.

Yes, it's the place where the company I work for used to have an office, but everyone there was so fucking incompetent that they fired the lot and closed the office. @Nagesh said:

Former Chief Minister and current opposition leader of some Indian state. From the Wikipedia article Nagesh linked to, he seems like he might be a pretty bright chap — national and international honors of various sorts — but the fact that Nagesh reveres him gives me grave doubts.

The "simple clean intuitive interface. what is not to like?" breaks badly if you try to quote quoted text.

I spent a minute or two skimming the Wikipedia article. If that is similar to your education, that explains much.

Yes. l see some short-coming similar to you. It will be fixed in the newest release. Remember the Bazaar and the Cathedral. Discourse is the bazaar style of development, CS is the cathedral. If you want to read more, let me know.
Linus broke Fred Brook's golden law. You can fix problem faster if you throw more programmers at it. Just the programmers need to be super well educated and smart. So someone with knowledge of Ruby and parser will fix this problem. Already going to start a discussion at https://meta.discourse.org/

Look, Atwood, I want Home to go the first post. Not the top of the page whereupon it will ajaxify the previous posts.
I agree, used to work, unfortunate regression. We will try to fix that first thing tomorrow. Note that you can also click on the title of the topic to go to top. And if you are a ninja, you can enter topics at the top or bottom by clicking on the date of first or last post in the topic list.My work PC lags horribly when it AJAXes the next posts, and I have no idea how far in the thread I've read. I think, Oh, the scrollbar is almost at the bottom so I have to be close. Psych! There's 25 more posts I didn't tell you about!
Look for the topic progress bar in the bottom right of each topic: Clicking the arrows does what you would expect, in addition to the other ways of reaching top and bottom I mentioned above. (Also I am guessing your work PC is pretty slow? I hope you're using Chrome or Firefox!)it doesn't tell you who the last poster was from the main page.
The last poster has a blue highlight around their avatar:↑↑↑ Last poster can be the first poster too, which is what you're seeing there.
-
Look for the topic progress bar in the bottom right of each topic:
That doesn't work in high contrast mode, and I can't click on it, or drag it around to quickly move to a specific part of the topic either.
-

To be quite honest, I didn't think it would be picked up like this. Maybe I'm just jaded.

I am proud of my full name and wish it were displayed everywhere.
HOW DO ... sorry, caps lock was on... how do you pronounce your name anyway?I usually mentally pronounce it as "chromed" (but with a D), but sometimes like "bro med" (as in, "bro, pass me the meds").
-
I've given up on telling people it's like "chromed". It requires you to have grown up with english pronunciation as well, I think. Do what you want.

Really? I always see it in my head as dro-med.

I meant that you probably need to be anglophone for easy pronunciation, not for what you first think of.

The whole idea is just B R O K E N. Has Discourse never been used with a forum that has more than a handful of posts per thread?
I think it's too heavily influenced by Stack Overflow, Jeff Atwood's former pet project before he moved to Discourse. Stack Overflow though, actually improved over what it was copying.
In SO, this probably works great as you have 1 question which is the central topic. In any forum with more than a handful of replies per thread... Not so much...

Good observation I see.

Sorry, no brilliance here as per my college professor. I could not get into IIT which is my second bigger failure after failing to get into Airforce.

Fact is I am astute observer of human behavior and that is all there is to it. I am also well read in different expects of life.

I am not a ninja so I am falling at this terribly.

What the heck is with the restriction in number of characters on the "short" username?
Also, since the box says I should criticize ideas: I criticize the idea of Discourse.
(I'm going nuts with everything I type being echoed in that second box off to the right... stupid "preview" window...)

You'll have to be more specific.

Don't worry. As soon as you type more than a couple of lines of text, everything you type will be below the bottom of the preview window, and you'll never see it.
-
Jeez! I'm too lazy to upload a screenshot, but the stupid "scrollbar" that isn't a scrollbar tells me I'm now on post 199 of 198. Can't Discourse do ** ANYTHING ** right?
