But PornHub is:

Well, it's a dirty, naughty website, isn't it? Isn't PHP the perfect choice for that?

There is nothing wrong with PHP, move along.
I'm considering starting the official PHP-sound thread...

There is plenty of wrong with PHP.
And that's from a PHP developer

I think Verizon has the whole capitalism thing backwards. You're supposed to buy cheap, do something that adds value, then resell for higher. Not the other way around.
-
@anonymous234 Someone must be shorting it

There's some form in the Online Services -industry on squandering value. For some time, after selling off another business, Yahoo had a lower total stock value than their bank balance was.

I guess its appropriate that Verizon bought Yahoo since they both seem to have the Buy High Sell Low business strategy.

And it's not only PornHub
So PHP is actually an acronym for Porn Hub Programming language?

Did not see that coming...
http://archive.is/4SrhbThey're not saying for how much though.
Mr. Mullenweg said his company intends to maintain the existing policy that bans adult content. He said he has long been a Tumblr user and sees the site as complementary to WordPress.com. “It’s just fun,” he said of Tumblr. “We’re not going to change any of that.”

Reportedly it's less than $3m.

Going by that rate, next time it gets sold (3 months from now) I'll buy it.
Aside: didn't someone say something about PornHub buying it and undoing the porn purge? That would've actually made sense.
-
@loopback0 3 million for a site that still has, at least, tens of millions of loyal users (plus a well known brand name, etc.) is ridiculously cheap.

Assuming you have a way to monetize that. Is there any evidence that Tumblr has ever made anyone any money? They don't have either ads or subscription fees do they?
-
@boomzilla How does twitter make money? Do they have ads? (I honestly don't know)

Do [Twitter] have ads?
Yes.
In particular, they look like regular tweets except they are labeled as "Promoted":
-
@boomzilla If you keep it infrequent enough (one of the things most people do wrong to make ads super annoying), you could easily insert a few target demographic ads into the tumblr stream. Like, I don't know, for avocado sandwiches and anxiety service animals.
-
@topspin sure. But...why has no one done it yet? Tumblr is like the Underpants Gnomes of the Web.
-
@boomzilla said in Tumblr bans porn and proves that it is really serious:

I suspect it has something to do with half the userbase posting Venmos on their blogs asking for free money.

You'd think Verizon might have thought farther ahead than that.

I’ll tell you when I bought it for $8k by the end of the year.

Yeah, like three posts up from yours.
-
@heterodox okay, true, but there’s also a 3 months later inbetween.
-
@topspin I always forget that's not in the standard CSS here.
-
@topspin I wonder if they will release it as an open source program? Like the rest of their products.

Not sure how useful that would be, unless you want to compete with @ben_lubar's social network.

My social network would never ban $1097 million worth of furry porn artists.
-
@levicki but why tho? Tumblr is the most exhibitionist community in the entire internet. Every piece of information you might possibly want, including their PayPal usernames which are the same as main emails, are right there in bio.
-
@Zerosquare said in Tumblr bans porn and proves that it is really serious:
If that happens, Tumblr SJWs are going to have a stroke.
Your forum where you complain about men objectifying women is now owned by the porn industry.
Haf fun!

@xaade but think of all the sex positivity!

I was curious so I'm looking in my Bio (not like it's hard to find my email address), but I can't see this at all. Am I doing it wrong?

@Tsaukpaetra are you begging for money?

It does! Just not for lute boxes.
