Yeah, but @Tsaukpaetra and I have an unspoken agreement. And by the time I need to reboot him, usually he's already past the point of expressing coherent thoughts anyways.
-
@Gąska but they keep telling me that Yuropoor's socialist universal healthcare means you have to wait years to get an appointment and in the US you never have to wait?!
(There sometimes are some long waiting times here for certain doctors but not for urgent cases)
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

As with so many things, it depends. You may have to wait a few weeks for a routine physical. You may have to schedule other routine procedures a few days in advance. Once you have an established PCP, same-day or next-day appointments are typical if you have some non-routine need. (If that's not quick enough, there is walk-in urgent care or, if necessary, the emergency room.) Routine lab work like blood tests can often be done as a walk-in, although scheduling it in advance may mean less time sitting in the waiting room. Surgery may be anything from now to some delay, depending on the medical necessity and the availability of personnel and facilities; unnecessary procedures like cosmetic surgery might have a long wait, depending mostly on your surgeon's golf and vacation schedule.
But your comment is bordering on a -worthy socialism/capitalism debate, and this is not an appropriate place for that, so I'm not going to say anything further.

I'm waiting to get a "Transthoracic Echo W Doppler" test done. Scheduled back in Sep for early Nov. Rescheduled for Dec 1. Rescheduled for Dec 27.
They keep having technicians call in sick.
Wonder what the odds of actually getting it done this year are...

Yeah, my experience with wait times is (almost) all pre-Global Death Virus, so all bets are off now.

I'm slowly working my way thru all of Forbes' series. I like him. It started off mainly space-related, now I'm in the other series - Tears of Blood was one that ended in a rather unexpected way. But it worked.

I read mostly about serial killers and Hitler. When I venture into fiction it's usually Dukaj or Lovecraft. But Expanse is quite enjoyable and I do love LOTR, so nothing is out of the question I guess.

@Parody
It will send an notification to your phone that you acknowledge on your phone that you have requested access on your phone for the app on your phone, luckily you can acknowledge by scanning your finger on your phone, you know just like you do to unlock the phone you tried to use to use the app on your phone to get to stuff but that wasn't allowed because your phone you just unlocked wasn't sure you where you anymore and had to do a double check so your phone can acclaim that yes it really is the phone's user who is accessing the app on the phone

Status: Confused.
Two weeks ago I apparently checked in some buggy python code. A coworker just tried to run it and it fails hard with aNameError
because the line that was supposed to call a method I added is wrong (I missed theself
both in the calling line as well as in the method declaration). But I tested it locally before checking it in, and the method was called and did what it was supposed to do. I definitely checked that because I remember it took some iterations to get it right.
But how? The way I wrote it this could never have worked in the first place. Why did it not fail for me?
-
@topspin Because Python?
Well, what about a global configuration on your machine or different version allowing for the style you used?
-
@BernieTheBernie I'm not aware of a Python version that allows this, but that might be due to ignorance. Possible.

Variable name resolution in Python's a bit weird, and that occasionally will bite you hard. You probably happened to write a class variable with that name first. Instance variables need
self.
I don't recommend using class variables in Python. They're too weird, and are no more useful than module-level variables despite having more caveats.
-
@dkf method, not variable. And there's no
@staticmethod
attribute on it, either.

You'll be rebooted for no reason, probably begin installing updates, and we'll all lose valuable time.

Status: Sometimes you want to trust some servers you're downloading things from. I mean, yes, they're trusted if you use consumer software like Chrome, but in Enterprise Java land they're most certainly not! One of the definitions of Enterprise is being behind the times by a decade, yes?
So you'd think you can just set a truststore? Hahahahaha! No. It's a requested feature, but someone is sitting on the ass about it. I guess they've never had to deal with actually working with other services.
I've fabricobbled a workaround; it's at least keeping most of the ugliness in one small place and I don't have too many places that need to see the true ghastliness that is HTTPS configuration in Java (where things are complicated because stuff locks down early for security reasons).
‍ indeed…

@HardwareGeek TIL. I'm still new to this whole "healthcare in the land of the free" thing. My sister informed me yesterday that doctor #2 I mentioned earlier, who refused to see me without a full checkup first, was also full of shit (she's my PCP. The doctor, not my sister.)
