RPG: The End War
-
Nigrim gets up slowly after being thrown out of the cart. He hears Panapos's warning and looks around. He sees the spellcaster on the top of the cliff and quickly forms the patterns necessary to cast Fire Bolt. He would have preferred Burning Hands for the increased damage, but unfortunately the enemy spellcaster is too far, so he has to settle for the inferior spell.

@HardwareGeek
Does not compute!
-
I need to remember not to mention DMBot when commenting on the result of a roll.
-
@Vault_Dweller fwoof A gout of flames erupts from Nigrim's hands, flashing upwards towards the creature... and missing it by the proverbial mile, leaving a charred scar on the moss growing on the rock face a good 20 feet below where its target is standing. Must be the nervousness.
Go ahead and move Nigrim on the map if you'd like to. Otherwise, @PleegWat, you're up. @HardwareGeek is next.

Knowing she'll be useless without a weapon, Jillian goes digging in the chest for her weapons.

@PleegWat There's your stuff, right there! Your short sword, your pair of daggers, your leather armor, all in plain reach. For such a high roll, you can pull out and wield any weapon as a bonus action, retaining your main action for this turn.
You also notice, at the bottom of the chest, obscured by other items, a bit of what appears to be parchment. A scroll? A letter? Hard to say, but there's definitely something down there.
-
Jillian grabs her short sword. As the second creature at the bottom of the ravine is busy with Bob, she attacks it from the side
(I can use sneak attack without advantage because Bob is next to it)

@PleegWat The monster lets out a hissing wail that echoes eerily off the walls of the canyon, and Jillian's sword comes away stained with blood as she slashes it across the chest. It's still alive, but not doing so well.
@HardwareGeek You're up. @Jaloopa is on deck.

@Mason_Wheeler As I said previously, Panapos moves to the chest and finds his arcane focus, assuming I need to use my action for that. Do I need to roll a perception check, like @PleegWat did?
If I don't need to use my action to find Panapos's arcane focus, I'll attack the spellcaster with all 3 Magic Missile darts (low damage but guaranteed hit, single damage roll applies to all 3 darts). To save time, I'll roll for everything, and you can use whichever is appropriate for my turn.

@HardwareGeek fft fft fft! The rapid-fire bolts of energy impact on the creature's chest and left leg. It staggers, but remains standing, its hands beginning to glow as it works on its spell, its concentration unbroken.
Panapos glances inside the chest, but just sees a jumble of items. He can see his robes, but his other gear must be stuck underneath them or... something?

@Jaloopa Noted. Would you like to make an attack? The closer one is within normal range for your weapon; the caster is long range but does not have cover behind one of your allies.

I fire at the blooded creature, hoping to end it

@Gąska You're up. @Vault_Dweller is next...

@Gąska Screaming like a berserker, Bob thrusts wildly at the crimson-skinned attacker, but it easily sidesteps.
Feel free to move, but be aware that stepping away from it (as opposed to moving laterally around it) will provoke an attack of opportunity.
-
@Mason_Wheeler I move 1 square N.
-
@Gąska That works. (BTW you should be able to move your character's token around on the map. Can you check that for me, just to be sure?)
-
@Mason_Wheeler I can. I wasn't sure I should.
-
@Gąska OK. For combat scenes, you're free to move your character's token as long as it's your turn and the move is a legal one.
-
@Gąska Yeah, a little while ago I remembered to move Panapos to match the move I'd made earlier.
-
The monster turns to follow Bob, snarling as it lunges with its claws. The slender but tough claws slide between the rings of Bob's chainmail and puncture the padded gambeson beneath, scoring painful wounds in his skin.
Bob takes 6 damage. (Also, everyone remember that they took 4 damage at the start of battle.)
The spellcaster finishes its spell, and bright purple smoke pours from its hands, swirling down onto the battlefield below, forming into a big, hulking monster, looking like a larger version of the others. It seems disoriented for the moment, but will definitely be a threat if allowed to move...
-
@Vault_Dweller Your turn. @PleegWat is on deck.
-
"Shoot", Jillian mutters, then loudly "Get that flyer down before it starts summoning another one!"
-
@PleegWat Panapos yells, "I don't know what that thing is, but if you can kill the spellcaster, or even just hurt it badly enough to break its concentration, it should just disappear."
-
Right as the new monster is joining the fray, yet another person wanders into the fight! An armored human warrior approaches from the north...
@PotatoEngineer Go ahead and introduce Ruven to the scene. As reinforcements, take your turn immediately. Then he'll be slotted into the normal initiative rotation.
-
Running down the road, Ruven hears the sounds of battle and really wishes he'd listened to his mother when he was little. Maybe her words would have been wise, but who knows? He didn't listen.
Still running, Ruven straps on his shield, and hears something about a spellcaster just as he turns a corner and sees purple smoke billow downward into the canyon. He looks up and sees a clawed red creature, and thanks his deity for speaking clearly. This sure beats the old sagas with drunken oracles speaking in riddless!
He draws a javelin and throws it at the demon on the cliff... "Oton thinks you suck!"
@DMBot roll 1d20+5 for attack

@PotatoEngineer

The magic missiles hadn't done too much to the caster, but having a solid spear hurled hard enough to pierce through its body definitely does the trick! It flails weakly, then slumps to the ground, a length of wood jutting out from its chest as it breathes its last.
[Between the corrosive blood and the inaccessible location, you're not likely to get that javelin back.]
-
After that brief interruption, Ruven takes his rightful place in the Initiative order, and it is once again @Vault_Dweller's turn.
-
Nigrim's eyes widen when this... hellish being, for lack of a better description, suddenly appears out of nowhere. Knowing it was summoned by the now-dead spellcaster doesn't make it less intimidating. In fact, the fact that it's still there, even though the spellcaster is dead, is truly frightening. However, Nigrim steels his resolve and decides to cast Burning Hands at this new creature. But first, he moves in such a way as to avoid hitting Bob as well.

@Vault_Dweller Bob isn't near the summoned creature; he's near the last remaining original one. The summon is outside of the range of Burning Hands. Can you move Nigrim to the intended position on the map?
-
@Mason_Wheeler I misread the map then. I'm not near a computer, can you do it for me please?
-
@Vault_Dweller OK, moved Nigrim 2 SW.
The monster lets out a trumpeting howl, far too high-pitched for something that size, as the flames scorch its body, leaving charred, bubbling flesh over a large portion of its torso and face.
@PleegWat You're up. @HardwareGeek is next.

Trying not to let herself be distracted by the waves of fire that just passed behind her, Jillian focuses on her current opponent.

@PleegWat It shouldn't have turned its back on a Rogue. That's a good way to end up with a blade planted in your back, as the creature discovers too late.
Monster is down. Would you like to move, or end your turn?
