@Mason-Wheeler I see what you did there.

Some people say the DM is God. This is not correct. God is an NPC who the DM controls fully
-
@Mason_Wheeler I'll write out the bio tomorrow. I'll probably want to tweak my initial outline based on how I set up her stats. I'll make sure I have at least something set up in there by tomorrow evening.
A note regarding gear: I'm planning to take the dancer archetype at level 3. That will let me add my charisma modifier to my unarmoured AC. I wouldn't want to wear armour or a shield any more at that point.
-
@PleegWat That will certainly make for an interesting character...
-
Two Lightfoot halfling rogues, with very different characters and backgrounds
-
@Mason_Wheeler I'm sure I'll find out.
-
I’ll poke at my character as soon as I am out of the predicament (see lounge status thread for details) I’m in.

they should be a lot easier to maintain than a Google Docs sheet.
Well, shoot. I wish I'd read this post 2 hours ago. I just finished creating my character on D&D Beyond, then copying it all the to the spreadsheet.
-
@Mason_Wheeler said in WTDWTF RPG game pre-sign-up and shit:
So yeah, it's working. Anyone who wants to join, use the join link above and ping me so I can give you a character sheet. (Not sure why Roll20 doesn't let players create their own, but OK...)
Ok, I've created a Roll20 account and joined the game there. Display name is obvious. I'd like a character sheet, please.
-
@HardwareGeek There you go
-
@Mason_Wheeler I'd like a character sheet, please. In-game, I'm PotatoEngineer.
(The Journal tab has no content at all, for me.)
-
@PotatoEngineer It should now

-
@Mason_Wheeler I couldn't sleep. My bio is up. Given what's in there, do you still need a small transgression?
-
@PleegWat Yes; this should be something the character has done recently, while in the army, as opposed to being in their backstory before they enlisted.
-
I haven't used Roll20 before. How do you distinguish between known spells and prepared spells? what do the "spellcasting ability", "innate", "output", "class" and "type" fields in the spell descriptions mean? The things I can think of that might go in the "class" and "type" fields are covered by the "school" field. Is there a place to put the attack bonus and/or targets save roll, without having to read the entire description?

Is this helpful?

Not sure. Where are you seeing these fields?
Looking at 1 random spell off your char sheet:
I don't see any of the fields you mentioned.

Not sure on that one. I'll have to do a bit of research.

@HardwareGeek said in WTDWTF RPG game pre-sign-up and shit:
"spellcasting ability",
the thing you cast, or manifest, or complete, or trigger, or use, or what have you
"innate",
Almost certainly not. Spell-like abilities at CR2 seems weird, unless they suck.
"output",
guessing this is the thing that happens when you the spell
"class"
your character class
and "type"
Toss-up between energy type and school. Use anything, the DM doesn't use these fields anyway

dunno

They appear when you click on the gear to edit the fields. They are, apparently, not displayed if they don't contain (non-default?) data.
-
@HardwareGeek Ah. Don't worry about those then.
-

Does it have to be something they got caught at, or something they got away with? And where do you want it on the character sheet?
-
@HardwareGeek It should be something they did. Whether or not they got away with it has yet to be determined. PM it to me rather than putting it on the character sheet; this is private information that your teammates will not know about unless you choose to tell them in-character.
-
@Mason_Wheeler Are we going to do a session zero, or something vaguely like it? How much PvP (I'd prefer none, but I'd put up with "a little"), any topics to avoid, etc?
-
@Mason_Wheeler said in WTDWTF RPG game pre-sign-up and shit:

I "whispered" to you on Roll20, or tried to. Did you get it?
-
@Mason_Wheeler I'll play the Paladin. With two rogue-types and a wizard, somebody has to take the front line. Combining "the healer" and "the front line" into a single character is, of course, the height of folly, but I am that fool.
-
@PleegWat said in WTDWTF RPG game pre-sign-up and shit:
I had an inspiration last night and it's been percolating. Halfling, chaotic good, started out as a self-employed prostitute. As a long string of people who really didn't think they needed to pay got in the way of actual paying customers, she was approached by a recruiter who noted her skills in ridding herself of aforementioned undesirables could be employed in other ways. After a few days thinking, she said yes.
I'm not sure of the best class fit yet.
If you haven't decided yet on class fit, Bard might work. Sure, they're spellcasters, and also not a perfect fit, but they're the persuade-y sort. (I've lost track of what you said; the huge digression into dice apps in the middle of this thread makes it hard to follow.) Or Rogue can still fit, focusing on the general "skill-monkey" abilities rather than the skulk-and-sneak abilities.
And if you need to go back and pick up some vaguely-thief-like skills, the Urchin background can supply them to any class.

Yes, just saw it now. (Been out with my wife for an anniversary dinner for the last couple hours. Anniversary is tomorrow, but she has to work then so we had it tonight instead.)

Not a "healer", but my gnomish wizard has proficiency in medicine. I'm not sure how to work that into his backstory, but it was one of the options ("Choose two from Arcana, History, Insight, Investigation, Medicine, and Religion") when I was creating the character, and it seemed like a useful one.

-
@Mason_Wheeler create a character for me please. Name's Bob. Dwarf fighter. Not too bright, not too brave, kind of a pushover. Joined military because mom told him to.
-
@PotatoEngineer I considered bard, but ended up going for rogue. This does mean we have two rogues, but looks like still quite different characters.
My character sheet on google is linked upthread, but I'm not going to repost the link because Mason decided roll20 will be the authorative source, however that sheet is not public yet.
-
@Mason_Wheeler How serious is this game going to be? Because I have always wanted to play a Wild Magic Sorcerer. Even better if I can substitute the surge table with the this, but I will settle for the standard one.

@Vault_Dweller Wild magic can work. That surge table looks a bit on the goofy side... I think I'm OK with it, but I retain veto power over any results, and can require a reroll as needed.
-
@Mason_Wheeler How about if I roll on both tables, and you decide which result to use?
-
@Vault_Dweller That would work.
