@GÄ…ska don't get me wrong, there are many reasons why you might prefer the road trip vs. the mall trip, and I wouldn't criticise you for that. If I were in your shoes and knew someone with the right hardware about that far, I would probably take the excuse to pay them a visit (well, not right now since ).
But just don't delude yourself that you're doing it to save money.
@remi be trollin' not helpin', tryna catch me Ryzen dirty.
-
@acrow said in Anyone with 3rd gen Ryzen to borrow?:
Even if all @GÄ…ska does for the remaining 3 hours is holler at the corner of a street with a hat at his feet, he's likely to shave that remaining $15 down to almost nothing. Or even make a profit. But I've never heard him sing, so my prediction may be off.
I've been told it sounds magical.

Sadly, the ponies in Hypatia aren't all that fast already, so slowing them down won't help much....

@HardwareGeek yeah, I mean, who wants to obtain an outcome quickly, safely, or cheaply. Much better to get down on the bare metal and really make the most of the CPU (and memory) while I wait for I/O... and I mean, evented architectures can be built in Java but the only advantage is real cost, it's not going to come close to maximizing the value of the ever-decreasing hardware spend.

Replying here, as this is not helpful in the context of the GPL licensing question.
@dkf said in GPL v3 for test code:
If the only person legally allowed to complain is you, and you'd be complaining to you in the first instance, the law is fully satisfied that it has nothing to do; courts don't rule on arguments between #1 and #2.
Occasionally, they do. One legal humor blog that I know of has a whole (small) category devoted to the topic. (The link displays the most recent post; scroll to the bottom for additional posts.) For example, a city council can (attempt to) appeal the decision of a board to which they delegated their authority (but probably won't succeed); since they delegated their authority, they are in essence suing themselves. Or if you are both the beneficiary and administrator of a trust, and the terms of the trust require that you administer the trust in a way that harms you as a beneficiary, you as the beneficiary can sue the trust (represented by you as the administrator). One suit involved the same person in three(!) roles: the heir of a person killed in an auto accident, the executor of his estate, and the driver of a car in the accident that killed him.

You’re not the author of the original code so you don’t have copyright. You may only use it under the terms of the licen
sce the copyright holder has granted you, because without any licensce the default is that you have no rights to it at all. That’s only because you agreed to the arrangement, created by the licence, that you needed it. As long as you close your eyes while using the API, you can distribute whatever modifications you want.

@Applied-Mediocrity Better than the branded pen next to me, that's from the government agency that is the bane of my existence. The ones that publish documents from hell that I have to follow in my work, decoding the stupidly vague requirements and bolded keywords into meaning.

@Zenith said in What field(s) should I move to?:
I've been thinking about this for some time and it's looking like I will face the question for real sooner or later.
What field can I move to that would be acceptable from a work expectations/environment standpoint? Keep in mind, pay for developers/IT generally seems to be very low in PA. When I say low, I mean the starting wage at Target is over half what jobs/contracts pitched to me pay. I've calculated that I could probably (just barely) make it on $2K per month if I had to. So my question is more about expectations (what or how much I'd be expected to do) and environment (how I'd be treated).
One option on the table is going full-time at my part-time retail job. I currently get along with everybody and they're happy with the quality/volume of my work. Absent any other options, that's the default.
Could I get a job at a car dealership doing anything besides sales?
What about working in some sort of forms-processing capacity, like insurance or the DMV?
Is truck driving a good or easy field to break into?
Do websites or newspapers pay for content anymore like how Peter Parker sells photos of Spiderman to the Daily Bugle?
Is it actually possible to learn a trade and have more stability than waiting in the Home Depot parking lot every morning at 4 AM?
I'm seriously at a loss as to what a "regular job" looks like outside of IT and stores/restaurants. Any suggestions?
move to an actual field and live off the land
