I'm sure the LockPickingLawyer might come up with some way around it. It still needs to be seen if it can be more easily shattered, split, frozen, chemically embrittled, etc...
Not to say that the actual lock needs to be up to snuff.

I mean... duh? What did people think was attached to those nerves after all these years?

@Dragoon said in In other news today...:
I remember a few decades ago something that sounds very similar to be used in thinks like hip replacement implants and stuff. Never heard it go anywhere because they couldn't make tools to properly form it without breaking the tools...

I spose different kind of hair than those on top of the noggin. Like those on legs - which just get worse with age

Yeah, I've had to have a locksmith cut mine because the key broke off in the lock.
Kryptonite reimbursed me for it and replaced the lock.

@boomzilla Still, better than ears growing out of your hair as you get older...

@Dragoon 7.8? Wow!
Nice to hear about a big, powerful earthquake going off in a place where no one gets hurt this time.

Uh huh. That sounds trustworthy.

Eating sawdust sounds a lot better than hanging out downstream of that dam right about now.

And there's a lot of southern china downstream of that dam. And when big dams fail catastrophically (the main way dams fail, after all), bad things happen over a huge area.
Plus the loss of the power being generated in a major industrial area...

It's China, they don't give a flying fuck about people living downstream.

I'm a little confused by how they're saying it can't be cut with angle grinders or drills, in the captions in the video showing both those tools cutting through it like butter

OK, but how many of their factories would it wipe out? Pretty sure they care about their income stream.

Sure, but in countries like this the main rule about news is 'lie first, deal with reality later'. They may do something to protect factories, but actual people are less important than good looking reports.

Rapid but controlled lowering of the water level tends to mitigate that significantly, though.

Whoever thought it was a good idea that loss of hair on the head is getting balanced with hair on shoulders and back (yuck) where exactly nobody needs any, that's a really garbage design.

"From some countries, it's like bombs loading on and when [the boat] is fully loaded, the hull sinks and water enters," he told the La Repubblica newspaper. "Going forward with over half a ton of meat on board is dangerous."

A PR stunt of course, but cute nonetheless:

Don't worry about that. The industrial area's probably mainly downstream so the problem's self-correcting.

Did they do this back in the 1340s?

And maybe they're also looking at fixing some other problem at the same time:
It is believed that the dam’s operator must protect the central megacity of Wuhan, whose 10 million residents are still reeling from the coronavirus pandemic that erupted there in December.
Everything's safe. No need to run away.

There are a lot of other minicab firms. Some of them even know how to hire software developers.

Oh fuck off Slack.
A company that wants use Teams is going to do it rather than paying you whether it's part of Office or not.edit: And if it's split out, what's going to happen? They'll just offer free or heavily-discounted licenses for Teams to companies already paying for Office and other MS products, which is a completely valid business strategy.
