I’ve had it with these motherfucking toasters

in the motherfucking composer window.
Seriously, posting on mobile is hard enough as is. It gets worse when there’s toasters constantly popping up obscuring the editor window. Best case it’s obscuring half of the screen I’m trying to type in, worst case I actually click it and everything gets fucked up.
-
Did you mean:
-
Sorry, I must have lost the custom-CSS rule I used to shove them under the composer, else I would share it with thee.
-
@Tsaukpaetra is there a thread where everyone shares their favorite custom CSS? Could be useful.
-
@topspin I think so, but
-
What I've found applied to Discourse.

There's one, not sure if there was another.
-
We've got a custom userscript topic that has compatible stuff, that IIRC also has custom css, but and I think it's hard to find stuff in the topic anyway.
-
@hungrier said in I’ve had it with these motherfucking toasters:
userscript
That's why I couldn't find it when searching for "CSS".
-
@topspin Here's my CSS rule that hides them:
/*gets rid of the permanent toaster asking me to enable desktop notifications (it never saves my "no")*/ #alert_button_desktop_notifications { display: none } /*gets rid of notification toasters (they do flash on-screen for only an instant, but then they're gone for good)*/ .alert.alert-dismissable.animate { display: none }
-
I created all the TDWTF Plays threads, Quotes Out of Context, and the Off By One Thread. The toasters never stop.
-
@error said in I’ve had it with these motherfucking toasters:

@loopback0 But what if you do want to see it in Unread topics without the toasters?

@djls45 Wouldn't it be better to not show them only when the composer is active / below the composer?
Wait, do I even want to see the toasters at all? I need to ponder that. Maybe yours is the best solution.

paging @barisu @julianlam

I guess you can say your WTDWTF experience is nothing but toast now
-

I believe that can be accomplished by setting a particular z-level, but I don't remember which.
-
I don't see a direct way to shut these off (in the admin console). The best I can find in the admin settings is
Notification Alert Timeout
for which the default is 5000 (milliseconds, I presume). I've changed that to 2000 for now.It might require people to refresh.
Alternately, in your personal settings you can turn off a variety of notifications:
-
@boomzilla I have everything set to "Notification Only" as in your screenshot. I assume setting things to "None" would get rid of the toasters but also remove things from the notifications menu.
-
@topspin could be. Are the toasters at least going away faster now?
-
@boomzilla I think so, I'm not quite sure,
EDIT: Yes.
-
Can someone open an issue at https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB/issues and describe the issue? I think you are annoyed of toasters on mobile while composing?

The auto-suggest popups are broken in several ways. When I type @error_, the popup gets in my way. I click @error_bot. It finishes the word but when I type, the text appears in the middle of the inserted word. Then I backspace, and the popup comes back! So I click it again and now it says @error_bot _bot because it completed it twice.
-
@error serves you right for making a bot like that.

Wrong answer. Answer is "Oh, mobile. That's different. "

While I'm bitching about NodeBB (too to start a thread), there's this beauty if you swipe right:

@error
And? Did Alex swipe right too?

..... while that is technically a valid answer to my question, it is information free as it only confirms that of the two options presented, one of them has the observed behavior.
A fact that we already knew, thus our knowledge has not increased.
However because this is technically correct, and exceedingly unhelpful, I am awarding you a promotion to bureaucrat grade 19.
Congratulations bureaucrat.

Ever since I discovered Apple’s “natural” scrolling works exactly the other way around than normal scrolling, I don’t even know what swipe left/right mean anymore. Does swipe left mean from the left side of the screen (to the right) or from the right side of the screen (moving things left)?
Or put differently: to “scroll” down the page I move the finger up. Is that swiping up or down?
-
@topspin said in I’ve had it with these motherfucking toasters:
“natural” scrolling
it took me a bit to figure that one out, but I eventually got it.
"natural" scrolling moves the document around under the viewer, not the viewer over the document. so if i think of it as moving the microfiche under the viewer it clicks.......
what I can't wrap my head around is controling a camera in 3D space with what the heathens that design these things call an "Uninverted Y-Axis"
I'm sorry without inverting your idea of a Y-Axis NO ONE CAN HIT SHIT FOR DICKS!

To the left (in the context of Tinder).

That's not an Apple thing.
It's just the difference between moving the object (webpage, document, whatever) you're viewing and moving the viewer (you).
-
@loopback0 Obviously. But it is the difference of what happens when I scroll the mouse wheel (INB4 what’s that) on Apple vs on Windows/Linux.

It's just the difference between moving the object (webpage, document, whatever) you're viewing and moving the viewer (you).No. I have a visualization that when I roll my mouse's scroll wheel towards me it's pushing the page at the same time. Due to the physics of a wheel, I'm pushing the page up by turning the wheel down. It's completely intuitive.

Oh, right, mouse wheel. I forgot about that.
-
@loopback0 You can set it to work the other way though.

Were they too short for you? Given that you're probably the most prolific of notification generators I'm not sure anyone's gonna shed any tears.
I picked that as a compromise. How long do you need to read one of these things?
-
@boomzilla said in I’ve had it with these motherfucking toasters:

Context switching is really expensive. The default 5 seconds is barely enough unless I'm idle anyways.

For some of them. Many of them get reset when visiting an unread topic, and thence get shoved away as if I've seen the post in question.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I usually leave my tab on the topic list so the notifications don't get swallowed if they're in whatever topic I'm reading. Then when I come back I can go through them with a post preview userscript before going to any topic
