I thought about the Außenalster but Wikipedia tells me a round is 7,6km so just 1km below running around the old city walls of Brugge.

Naw, I'm in the south, so for me it's a round around the Außenmühlenteich
-
@Rhywden That must be a Game of Thrones / Tormund style definition of "The South".

@bb36e Fantastic tan! Are you a biker?
-
@bb36e Did you get run over?

I suspect an unexpected obstacle.
-
@topspin nah, my bike just kinda hit something and threw me over. I actually have no idea what it was. Probably a bump in the bike path
-
@Tsaukpaetra I like using my tan as an indicator of how active I've been, when the lines start fading then it's time for another ride/hike
-
@bb36e
But more importantly: is the bike ok?
-
@Luhmann thankfully, the only damage seems to be on some plastic at the end of the handlebars, plus scrapes on the seat 😃
-
@bb36e
oh yeah ... the handlebar ends ... the most underestimated bike part by far ... don't leave home with them

Lubing Her Up!

-
@Tsaukpaetra
Always lube before taking her for a bumpy ride

One hour of fitness has me pretty exhausted. Also, according to Fitbit I died somewhere in the last quarter (that green minimum peak was after a 50m sprint and my heart rate was way over the top, but it refused to measure it at all at that point):
A crap ton of junk food afterwards:
Effective weight loss: negative.
Tobey Faire, I didn’t eat all of that. Just fell for the promotional “free” drink glass with the deal menu.

You mean, you left a couple fries?

Ran 3 miles in 28 minutes yesterday. I haven't gone that far in a long time. (I think the half box of Twinkies I ate helped.) My heart rate hit 180 a few times, but it recovered very quickly each time I slowed to a walk, and at no point did I feel like I was going to black out and die. In other recent runs, it liked to hit 200 and stay there for a long time, and I could be described as semi-conscious at best at that point.
Resting heart rate this morning is right at 55, and that's after drinking coffee, too! So I think I'm finally redeveloping some cardio conditioning--all of which I lost after an ankle injury 3 years ago and subsequent surgery 2 years ago.

Also, aspirin is my best friend today.

Status: So, the training regimen seems to help. My normal run is this 300 meter running, 300 meter walking shtick. Today I decided, just for the hell of it, to reduce the number of walks radically (while also somewhat reducing my running speed to compensate).
In effect it was 900 m run - 300 m walk - 900 m run - 300 m walk - run back to home, about 2 km. Funnily enough, my average speed (7'00" per km) was slower than the last "normal" run before that (that one was 6'50" per km). I blame the weather - running at 28 °C (today) is different from 22 °C (last time)! Also, the offending muscles (i.e. the cause of all that stuff) didn't make my legs feel like they'd fall off so definitive improvement there.
I'll try to repeat maybe two more times and then will go for a complete run of 4 km. If that works out I'll have to decide whether I want to increase my speed or the distance.
-
So, today we had a thunderstorm which prevented me from doing my normal run - thus I went to my fitness studio and used their treadmill. Turns out that I can run 4 km at 9 km/h no problem. Could've run more (no problems at all with the muscles) but let's just say that this studio doesn't have much in the way of air conditioning or even any kind of air exchange so the humidity was through the roof. Opted for a speed increase for the last 500 meter and a flat-out sprint for the last 100.
In related news, some of the training machines which were broken at the beginning of the year are still broken. I also went there today to see if they had finally fixed those - since they didn't I also don't see a reason to continue my membership. I'll then have a look at the gym closer to me which also seems to have air-con.

Y'know, the thing is that "lightning-fast" kind of describes the problem with that...

Bike trip today.
45km (admittedly the route was as flat as B*****m) in 2.5 hours, with pause for drinks and ice cream.
Was fun, but now my knee hurts. Damn, I hate getting old.

I field stripped my truck as part of replacing it last night. Sadly, forgot to tell Fitbit I was exercising, so you merely have to guess when that happened:
I'm barely able to walk, twelve hours later.

I resend that! The part I live in is as flat as the Netherlands but other parts are hilly towards downright high

I would’ve written Netherlands, but then I couldn’t have used this mysterious censoring gag.

Status: Fitbit says I'm "on track". Bro, I've skidded off the track and partially wrecked from the past few days of activity. Why aren't you telling me to chillax?

Because your sleep patern is heretic?Considering that after yesterday’s exercise I still didn’t sleep well last night, I find it oddly reassuring that at least one person has worse sleeping habits than I do.

Might have been the last sunny summer weekend, so we went on a bike tour again. Now everything hurts.
-
Moving out of the area soon. I left my local gym membership expire so I'm back to pavement pounding for excerise. Before I took up gym excerise I was quite pleased with my progress. Sub 25 minutes on a good day for 5km. Awesome progress for me. No where near good but I was proud of myself. I thought I would be able to replicate this again. No! I had the brilliant idea of running in my gym shoes. Five finger vibrams. Took me just under 33 minutes and I have blisters in new and interesting places. I'm going to heal up and try 3 km to reintroduce myself to pavement pounding and hopefully new calluses before hitting 5km again.
-
@DogsB
Even after a brake of a few weeks you have to build up again
-
Ok, which one of you got profiled in a feature article at the Bee?
-
-
Took a break for a couple days before attempting 3km. Only a little sore Wednesday and Thursday so I thought I would chance my arm on 5km. It was going well until after the 4.5km mark. Running on the blisters became too much so I walked home. With that new information in mind I'm going to rest up tomorrow and probably Sunday and then attempt 4km with no chancing my arm on 5 next week.
