This may be true; however from the stories I've heard, there is also much done to increase the amount of money you're given in the first place, such as reasoning along the lines of "we need to spend this money before the end of the year so that we can get the same budget next year". Admittedly that's more of a systemic failure than an individual failure, but it is because it is someone else's money rather than the spender's own money.
People treat someone else's money differently than their own money. In my experience this holds for almost everyone, everywhere, in all situations. It's in no way limited to government organizations either, it's just as prevalent in the private economy. Honestly, who here hasn't for example upped the specs on the PC / laptop they bought because it was the employer paying for it?

@ixvedeusi So, it's a general problem. However, it does not apply to EVERYONE and secondly, I'm sick and tired of this idiotic "Government, derp!" attitude here.
Just because you US'ians are creating such a massive dumpster fire (and are even proud of it!) doesn't mean that we can't see the hipocrisy for what it is.

oi. This vixen's not proud of it, and i resent being tarred with the same brush.
I resent being under a government run by an idiot with the intelligence and complexion of a carrot.
I won't deny what we have is a dumpster fire. I will accept that is the state of things, i will mock it, I will act to change it to the extent that I can do so without endangering my life or livlihood, but i will NEVER be proud of it.
On that note, maybe it's best if we drop the subject and start talking about something else before one of the @boomzilla alts with moderator powers is forced to split this topic and throw parts of it into the garage?
It's a suggestion.

no one ever does when they're talking about spending someone else's money...
As evidenced by every government program ever.
not EVERY one, no....... just the ones that actually get funding from taxes... The unfunded ones care a hell of a lot about money, because they have to beg and scrounge for every penny.
I find that deeply insulting. Seriously, guys, I'm a teacher employed by the state and we very much care about making the most out of the money we're given in a responsible way.
So, for everyone here with this attitude: FUCK YOU.
Sideways.
Blah, blah, blah. And there are responsible low level government employees in other places, too. Many schools are still massive black holes of money.

And it's also completely untrue - I have had direct contact with said "bureaucrats" and "high-level administrators" for my state.
It is possible — improbable, but possible — that you may have competent bureaucrats and administrators. However, it is at least as much of a generalization and at least as wrong to claim my statement is completely untrue as it is for me to claim it is always true everywhere.
It is in the nature of of bureaucracies and the bureaucrats who inhabit them that authority, rank and power are measured in large part by the size their budget, and it is in the nature of humans to try to maximize authority, rank and power. Logically, therefore, bureaucrats and administrators have a vested interest in increasing their budgets. Whether those budgets are utilized effectively is usually of secondary (at best) importance.
There are exceptions, of course, as there are for any generalization, but it holds true more often than not. Perhaps you are lucky enough to be employed in a school system that is such an exception, but if so, I am confident that it is an exception, not a general model of bureaucracies, even in your enlightened Bundesrepublik.

Searching stuff on YouTube with the remote is so easy compared to that big complicated thing on the computer that has over 100 buttons. You just navigate your cursor over a few letters, select the right one and there you go. If it was good enough for Stephen Hawking, it's good enough for me!!!1

As you made an abolute statement, yes, it was completely untrue. You can't have it both ways. Also, this very site here is rather regularly bemoaning the inefficiencies of the private sector...

The private sector is not without it's own bureaucracies.
But this is the wrong topic for this discussion, and it should end, lest the private sector need to become efficient.

You have to forgive them. If all you know about the economy is from that mandatory indoctrination they call Econ-101, you may well be led to thinking financial decisions in a typical non-governmet entity were made by the owners. It's no ill will, just naïvety and Dunning-Kruger.
