Q: What's worse than Epic Game Store exclusives?
A:
-
@hungrier Gah! I liked that series, but there's no way I'm going to Stadia for the next one.
-
@Mason_Wheeler Supposedly it's just a timed exclusive.
-
@hungrier Well that makes it slightly less bad. I'm still not happy about it though.
-
@hungrier As if the "buy games from Steam etc and hope they continue to exist and support the game forever" model wasn't bad enough.

It turns out the next Oddworld game is an Epic exclusive. At least the Oddworld developers are honest about why.

Essay-scoring engines don’t actually analyze the quality of writing. They’re trained on sets of hundreds of example essays to recognize patterns that correlate with higher or lower human-assigned grades. They then predict what score a human would assign an essay, based on those patterns.
Who could of predicted that these algorithms would be prone to error or purposefully exploited?

ically correct
asif it's the nice white kind made from free-range, happy corals, shells and the like. It's obviously not vegan though.

Hooray for standard tests! No child left behind! Colorless green ideas sleep furiously!
To be fair, that's the perfect preparation for Real Life where their application for a bullshit job and their CV will be rated by the same algorithms.

@Mason_Wheeler If you do get someone's tongue frozen to a metal object, the correct way to get them un-stuck is to pour warm water onto the cold metal object, onto and around the spot where the tongue touches metal. The goal is to warm the cold object enough to thaw the thin layer of ice between tongue and metal. Water does not need to be boiling; 50degC usually suffices. Don't burn the tongue. Quantity is your friend; pour a lot. In case you only have a 100degC water-heater, mix boilt water 1:2 with tapwater. Or just use water from the hot side of the tap.
Just a heads-up. Pulling a tongue off a frozen sign post by main force will leave a bit of tongue-skin on the pole, and will hurt for weeks afterwards.

Yeah, grad students are most likely cheaper than graphics cards used for machine learning.

Humm... The "travel warnings" exists for a reason? I don't know much on what happens across the border these days.
Talking about rumors that I've heard, the Chinese Custom will sample whoever travel from Hong Kong to China these days, people who are picked will need to unlock their phone for examination by Chinese Custom, and some even claimed they see people in another booth was requested by the officers to draw blood samples.
On both cases if you refuse to comply, usually you can choose to come back to Hong Kong. However in some case where the criteria is untold, they may choose to detent you for "God knows how long it would be".
We've practically stopped all travels to China until further notice by HR.
-
Btw, just read news that he is under detention by Shenzhen Police for 15 days.

Why?
There's been so many Spider-Man movies up to now.

@TimeBandit Because what makes the recent ones really good is his connection to the wider world of the MCU.

"Does not need" in the sense of "you don't need a hellfire missile to get the hornets' nest out of your attic", right?
It should be boiling only if you want them to keep the bit of skin that's fozen to the pole and remove the skin from the rest of the tongue.

Growing up one year we ordered a dozen ducks, 3 of them turned out to be geese. I have fought plenty of geese.
Is that an understandable mistake for the supply company to make?
-
Yeah, the chicks all pretty much look the same at the age in which they are delivered.
-
@Dragoon Even if that's true -- and yeah, it is; I grew up on a farm and we had ducks and geese -- you would think that a company whose job it is to supply animals would 1) know about the possibility of confusion and 2) take a few obvious steps to minimize its impact, such as keeping the ducks and the geese segregated. Failing to do so is unprofessional and weird.

It should be boiling only if you want them to keep the bit of skin that's fozen to the pole and remove the skin from the rest of the tongue.Well, to be truly , any temperature >0degC should work, depending on quantity and flowrate. But you'd be surprised how many people think that the water needs to be scalding hot to work.
An even better idea would be to direct a hot-air gun (of sufficient wattage) to the signpole, some 10cm above the location of the tongue. But electric kettles seem to be a lot more common than hot-air guns. And people think about it first, usually, even if they had something more suitable.
-
One would think, but it wasn't an uncommon occurrence. We got 2 ducks once as well, and they do look different. I am guessing they were just the cheapest vendor and nobody ever complained loud enough.

Temp without windchill. I've walked the dog a couple of times when it was cold and windy enough for the tears in my eyes to freeze the eyelids together. Mildly unpleasant.
