I'm not sure if anyone else is interested.

@error threads are so cheap they're free

@Gąska True story: we pulled out our card collection at a fetish party once, just because it was still in the car, and pretty well derailed the whole thing. Hardly anybody watched our sounding demo because everybody else was playing more nerdy games.

Go search for threads started by @blakeyrat or @ben_lubar to get some perspective. Then come back and make your thread already.

Mine took a little longer to fail. Evidently, Jenkins builds with different options than my local build (which was clean).

For faster iteration, I'm assuming? Ours never builds clean unless cleaned by hand. It's... Not extremely terrible.

Sorry, I wasn't clear there - not talking about a clean build but rather a build that was clean of any warnings/errors. So I had no warnings. The jenkins build did. And we have warnings-as-errors on.

I don't think I've ever witnessed such a thing on any project more complicated than a calculator...

status Finally got my program to link on Ubuntu! Evidently their linker is stupid. Using the same makefile on the Mac worked fine. I had to revamp the order of libraries on the command line to get linking working on linux.

Status: I finally got access to the recruiting system so I can look at job applications. Took them long enough.
There's 3 applicants now, sadly none of them seem to have any experience in the one field I'm looking for. It is of course clear to me that I can't just expect them to be experts in everything and just produce a working system in one week. They wouldn't be applying for a student job in that case, anyway. Certainly they'll get some training period, mentoring, etc.
I put in as optional (i.e. nice to have but not strictly required) some experience with Qt and C++ or Python, but they can learn that on the go. Just like I don't care if they ever used a VCS or things like that, they'll gain that experience here. The one thing I explicitly required though was some knowledge about OpenGL, because that's what it'll be all about. They have a computer graphics department at the university, so there should be some students who want to get a bit experience with that, without having to learn everything about it from scratch.
Someone telling me they want to "work on Machine Learning", however, might probably be a qualified person but not quite what I'm looking forSome funny things I noticed in the applications (which won't affect my assessment):
One called me Dr.med. topspin. I didn't even realize I studied medicine.
Another has listed a previous job as work experience with the job title "Senior Engineer". That's quite the position considering the line above it says application for "Student Assistant". Why would you want to lose that much rank?

I seem to recall when one of the stated features of Discourse was that you couldn't write bots for it.
-
@pie_flavor I thought we already had a @discobot, but I guess I was thinking of @discoursebot.
-
@hungrier discoursebot is merely a bot name. discobot is the bot name, the one that Discourse manages itself. The thing that I had learned was that it never registers discobot as an actual user, and it just comes out of nowhere. Either that or @ben_lubar purged the account after switching.
Either way it's certainly better than bot_flavor.
-
@pie_flavor It absolutely needs to occasionally post a link to Disco Inferno, just because.
Or use an avatar that is an image of Mr Burns from the Simpsons. For Reasons.

@dkf
Or Jeff's avatar face merged with Mr Burns?
