Speaking of which, I've read their claims that iOS 12 is supposed to be faster and even recommended to install on older devices. So I'm intrigued to try it.
But then the comparision is almost certainly with iOS 11 and I'm still on 10, so I'm not convinced it still won't slow down my phone to be unusable like they did with my 4S. And you can't just try it because there's no way to revert back.If anyone has installed iOS 12 on an iPhone 6S, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Yes, it's just as fast as it was before. No better, no worse.

More reports about the "strongest ever glass in a smartphone":
-
@Atazhaia It's still glass - how does that compare to other smartphones?
-
@loopback0 About the same as any midrange phone I guess? There's nothing special about the glass in the iPhone even if the Apple Marketing Bullshit Department likes to pretend it is.
-
@Atazhaia said in The iPhone XS (will) Max (out your credit card):

Maybe but why is anyone guessing?
There's some sort of breakability score used in the article, this sounds like the perfect thing to compare phones and prove whether the claim is bullshit or not, and yet the article doesn't do the comparison.

To clarify: before what, though? My reference is iOS 10, which afaict is faster than 11.

I see absolutely fuck all to motivate the iPhone Xs costing more than the iPhone X did at release
it's newer and it has a picture of a bitten-off apple on the back. if you don't think that's a reason enough, then you're probably just one of them haters.

My 5s does not have a back made of glass.
EDIT: Took it out of the case to double check...it's the top and bottom of the back...small strips of glass.

So we're now up to iOS 13 and there is still no "select all" button in the mail app (or any app that Apple makes). And what;s the deal with the tiny back buttons at the top that can't seem to detect that you have touched it or insist on dropping down a menu instead of you know...going back to the previous screen.

There's Select All for the text?
Unless you mean for all emails in a folder in which case no. So?@CodeJunkie said in The iPhone XS (will) Max (out your credit card):

Works for me, although they're obviously more tiny on my (work) SE than they are on my XR.

It's a relatively common issue here on Earth-47. You could ask @pie_flavor if Earth-73 is better. Dunno if we have visitors from any of the other ones.

I can afford it. I just prefer a cheaper phone and use the money saved to go drinking like most sensible people.

Apple sells great budget hardware. Unfortunately instead of pricing it accordingly it ends up being the literal most expensive thing on the market
-
@levicki that's ok. Also, calling all hell holes communist is a no true scotsman. It's like the commies that say everything that failed isn't true communism.

Hey, man, after almost a year now, how do you like your Xr? What made you go for that one? (I know there's nothing special about this question, since most people did. )

I've only had it 6 months but it's brilliant.
@kt_ said in The iPhone XS (will) Max (out your credit card):

It's cheaper than the XS and my carrier had an offer which made it £200 cheaper, and the only features sacrificed are ones I didn't care about plus the battery life is superb.
TBH I'd still be using my 6S if it wasn't for 2 things - the Lightning port was iffy and sometimes required the cable to be wedged at a an angle to charge and the battery was only charging to 80% of its capacity. Both could have been fixed for significantly less but I fancied a new phone rather than fixing one that was over 3 years old.

It's mostly Xses. Could be I just don't notice them this much cause they're all wrapped snugly in cases and then look like 8s this way.
-

They look more like the X/XS than the 8 - the hole for the camera is generally vertical, the screen goes nearer to the edge with a notch out of the top like the X/XS (and the screen is actually larger than either) and unlike any of them it comes in colours that aren't silver, the ever-changing "Space Grey" or "Gold".

Still using my 6S here, as probably mentioned before. I "fixed" the port with a bent paperclip by removing the lint that had accumulated in it. (You would not believe how much of your jeans ends up compressed in such a tiny port.) The battery I had replaced under the battery-gate program in December (deliberately as late as possible) at the reduced price, which wasn't cheap but at least pretty reasonable.
Works like a charm, without much of the idiocy of newer models. (And of course, "3d touch" and "hey siri" are disabled)

@topspin said in The iPhone XS (will) Max (out your credit card):

I would, because I have the same issue with my 7 (and the 5S that I had before that). And yes, jeans pockets are breeding grounds for dust and fluff and other stuff, and all of it ends up in the Lightning port. (Well, except for the odd moments where much of it ends up all over the screen - static electricity is a thing still - or jammed in the edges of the protector case thing.)
-
@topspin said in The iPhone XS (will) Max (out your credit card):

I'd already done that more than once, there was something actually wrong with the port or the pins or something. It needed replacing.
I probably wouldn't have justified the XR at full price.@topspin said in The iPhone XS (will) Max (out your credit card):

My SE seems to be lint free after nearly 2 years although I'm not sure how. It spend 18 months in the same pockets as the 6S.

I had 3D Touch enabled on my 6S but never actually used it. The XR doesn't have it.
Siri is disabled on every Apple device I have - as is OK Google and whatever the Samsung thing is called on my Android devices.
