@Groaner make sure to get him invited, not sure if he's in the group!
-
@Tsaukpaetra he is not.

That's above my pay grade, isn't it? Also, sounds like work.

@pie_flavor Is it private or something?
-
@Zenith Yes. It is the club for regulars.

It started off as an auto-group for people who'd been around a while and posted at least once in a while, entirely based on
Trust Level 3
(https://blog.discourse.org/2018/06/understanding-discourse-trust-levels/#regular) when we had Discourse. If you were TL3, you had access, if not, not.It stopped things like Google, spammers, and people who'd just signed up from accessing posts there. As such it's 'private' in that it's not easily accessible to 'outsiders', but it's not deliberately hidden.
There is presumption of 'privacy,' in that you are expected to not deliberately quote/copy/leak stuff from the relevant category outside that category. The screen background is different, so it shouldn't be too difficult determine quickly whether you're in there or not.
After moving to
NodeBB
it was decided to keep the concept, but granting/revoking access is an entirely manual affair now.

@The_Quiet_One It is a rage inducing mistake.
One thing I learned from taking care of kids though.
If kids get into stuff they are not supposed to and make a mess, it's your fault for not securing the stuff. Not the kids.
I think 2 thinks would have helped.
- live backup database with duplicate data
2)don't give people access to stuff they can't handle.
But yeah... it is a frustrating experience nonetheless.

I think it's a good idea to think that we're all humans and humans are fallible.
So that makes it more important to have backups and redundancy.Well, yes, but it depends upon degree and frequency. People who fuck up a lot still need to be culled from the pack.
As I have said to an employee before: "No one bats a thousand, but statistically speaking you should have gotten one right by accident by now".
Cull from the pack. That's one way to do it.
But I prefer teaching. I know I wasn't born with knowledge.

But I prefer teaching. I know I wasn't born with knowledge.I'm not referring to lack of knowledge. I am referring to lack of care or ability to get the domain of knowledge. Some need culled from the pack. Some can't learn or be taught to care.
Firing someone can be a compassionate act. Just because they aren't right for one particular job does not mean they are necessarily bad employees across the board. You can waste your time and theirs trying to fit the square peg to the round hole, or you can get them on the path to the job that fits them.
