Probably not. But I'd be careful posting thoughts on the internets from now on. They may not be your own.

It's the oldest loan I have. I'm keeping it to lengthen my average credit history, which for some reason makes the score higher, and if I close it by paying it off it drops off the calculation and takes a few years away...

Probably some sort of BGP/routing problem or a blown out switch or something, given "We're aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible." and the duration so far (that /. article was voted up 3 hours ago)

Status: Sometimes it's astounding how much difference technical knowledge does make. This afternoon I got a call from a friend of mine whose internet access (and landline) wasn't working anymore. She had accepted an upgrade to 50/10 Mbit (previously 16/2) for less money and Monday was the day of the changeover. And, of course, nothing worked. She told me that she had talked to a technician all afternoon and that she had been supposed to receive a callback but nothing happened.
So I packed my Go Bag (consisting of a laptop, ethernet stuff, a router and other assorted tools) and had a look.
I was able to determine the cause of the problem in 10 minutes - and about 5 minutes of that was waiting for the router to reset to factory settings (because she had mislaid the router password).
Turns out that her router is simply too old - it can see the DSLAM just fine and get a signal, but it doesn't speak the proper protocol. The last firmware update I found was from 2013 which I had to locate in an FTP archive because the main site didn't even list the damn thing anymore.

At least they have it somewhat standardized. Here in Europe, they're pulling all the same tricks, but every bank has its own system and the calculated scores are hidden from the clients. Although on the other hand, credit score in Europe is only ever needed for loans and related banking services, whereas in USA it also affects your ability to rent apartments.

It's quiet easy, just ask any hack indie game producer.
- Steal some sprites
- Scale em up willy-nilly so that none of the pixels line up with the same grid

Screenshots paste here as PNG, the source image is (presumably) jpg.
Regardless, why aren't they using PNG to begin with? It's not like it's less efficient...

@Gąska Not in Germany. We have the SCHUFA - which is using arcane and secret algorithms to arrive at a score which determines whether you get a mobile contract, can rent a flat or similar.
However, the "secret" part may end now as they're target of the new data protection rules now... no more hiding.
-
@Gąska Well, around here I’ve never heard anyone saying “I’m going to postpone paying off that loan so I have a longer loan on record to boost my credit score.” Or “I’m buying these things on 12 different credit cards for my credit score.”
I don’t know whatever my equivalent “credit score” is, nor do I care. It probably doesn’t say much more than “he’s not in debt.” If I needed a loan to buy a car or a house or whatever, I’d show the bank my income statement / employment contract, that’s sufficient for them to figure out I’m not a high risk debtor to keep interest rates reasonable.

Maybe in stupid places, like Munich.
If my landlord had asked me for a SCHUFA statement I’d have told them to fuck off and looked for a different apartment.

Oh! That's right! I have two credit cards now as well! I really don't know what for, except that keeping a low balance and consistently paying on them is a really good thing too!

Yes, some jobs, when performing a background check, also perform a credit check. I know this because WTPharm's onboarding paperwork that a new contractor/technician/whatever needs to fill out includes a form specifically saying that you permit the credit check.
