I'm going to fuck around with the sticks tomorrow.
Before I do that (I'm avoiding opening the laptop as much as possible, because it's held on mostly by plastic snaps and once those break...), I decide to do memtest in single-core mode.
Works fine. Same with round-robin single-core and the other single-core rotation option thing.
This is fine.
Edit: And now of course multi-core simultaneous is working great too. What the hell....
-
@Atazhaia Do those work badly? Mine just works, but I haven't tried doing any RTX things.

Status: Coverity says there's structurally dead code in some JS and HTML files in an old product, and I'm supposed to go fix them. It doesn't say where, and ESLint cant find the ones in the JS. But almost every possible comparison uses
==
when ESLint says it should be===
, and I even saw the dreadedif (x = true)
...I wish I could burn it.
-
@Magus uh, don't it produce a detailed report in some easily disregarded location? every coverage analyzer I have ever worked with produces some such report.
If you print it all out you can burn it.
-
@Gribnit The reports for these files always claim the issue is on line 0, and sometimes it even manages to say that on C# files, if it's feeling particularly helpful.

Ah. That's the coverage analyzer's way of telling you to burn it. You should burn it. Or maybe run another analyzer over it that doesn't get its brain turned to cheese by the code.
-
@Gribnit That's easy for you to say, you haven't seen this code. I try to avoid looking too closely, because I don't want my brain turned to cheese, but a tool? What chance can it possibly have?!

Well, I mean yeah, I guess you need to read the code then.

Working with someone else's shit code makes you a better developer. Get in there upto your waist.
-
@sweaty_gammon
If only past-me generated less shit code, so as I didn't have a waist high pile to wade into...
-
@izzion I wrote some code in the past that would probably feature on the front page. I am also trying to reverse engineer some code I wrote 18 months ago where I wrote everything using reflection so it was extendible ... it was never extended.
-
@sweaty_gammon While I agree with that in principle, this is a mostly dead product that has a single (but valuable) customer, that has not had any new development in years, with assignments in its ifs. Knowing it thoroughly isn't important right now, we're just trying to appease the security team, who apparently care about the security concerns of dead ternary branches in specific dropdowns accessible by a single customer. Things are not good.
-
@Magus Fair enough.
-
@Magus Did you mean to put a double equals there?
-
@Magus I dunno if it's just the media being overblown, but if a reviewer has 2 of 3 cards fail on him it certainly doesn't loook good...
https://www.hardocp.com/article/2018/11/21/rtx_2080_ti_fe_escapes_testing_by_dying_after_8_hours
Also, turning on RTX dropped performance sharply, although it has been fixed a bit. Still drops it 30-40%, though. And there's the issue of cards catching fire too ofc. I mean, sure that Nvidia want to beat AMD on the hottest running cards, but they don't have to go to such extremes for it...
-
@pie_flavor I put exactly what I saw in the code. This is what I'm so upset about.
-
@Atazhaia Sticking with the 1080Ti for now then.
-
@Atazhaia Oh, I have a Gigabyte variant of the base 2080, and expect horrible performance with ray tracing mode on. I just wanted an upgrade to my 980, which it definitely was.
-
@Magus Not to be a dick but you should have just bought the 1070.
-
@sweaty_gammon said in The Official Status Thread:

Not to be a dick but there's already a thread about whether or not any given thing is being a dick.
-
@sweaty_gammon Um, no. I wanted to skip a generation to get a really good, fast card. And I succeeded.
Founder's Edition probably has awful cooling, so I'm glad I didn't get that, but the 2080 is significantly more powerful than every lower card.
-
@Magus The RTX 2080 isn't that much faster than the 1080Ti and the difference in price isn't worth the performance increase.
-
@Magus Even before the whole RTX fiasco I was questioning Nvidia, as they gone into full shady practice mode despite their massive lead over AMD in the GPU department. So, yeah, I will be switching to AMD for graphics too for my next computer. AMD deserves my support so they can get back in the game and kick Nvidia in the balls like they deserve.
-
@Atazhaia I tried a Sapphire RX570 the card was garbage. I got myself a refurb and just forked up the extra money for the 1080.
-
I have never once been dissatisfied with my 1060.
-
@Atazhaia As long as you can run games on it, and not have the drivers freak out.
-
Right now I have a 970 and a 1070 in my computers. They work fine, only the 1070 is bottlenecked by the aging hardware of my main computer. Although I am severly pissed off by Geforce Experience, which can go die in a fire. Fuck that shiteware with a rusty spork.

They never said the experience would be positive
-
@Magus I've not had any issues with AMD lately, both when I was running with an R7 370 and from my work laptop which got a FirePro. So, hm, YMMV?

Edit: And now of course multi-core simultaneous is working great too. What the hell....
Ah, it started out working great, then started failing soon after. This time though not enough to kill the test!
Seems cores 2 and 4 (more 4) have issues...
-
@Atazhaia I feel ya man. I hate the software too. But I don't rate the AMD cards at all.

Jotting things down in case it does crash...
Test 6, 1f7370250, CPU 4
Test 9, 274f7db98, CPU 4
Test 6, 4526d26a8, CPU 2, noticed the last byte is flipped from 00 and FF

I just open it every so often to update the drivers and otherwise it gets ignored.

I went to bed last night and didn't fall asleep instantly like normal. After about 10 minutes I heard a slurping sound and turned the light on, the little bugger had his tongue in my water glass. No wonder the water tastes funny sometimes...

You leave cups of water sitting around?
That seems.... unwise....

And now it's not crashing or having problems. Joys.
Well, let's let it cool off for a half hour and try again....?

I'm referring to the detail, colours, etc. that make it look so realistic. I'm just not quite there.
From what you posted, it looks like the main thing you need is more value contrast. Make the dark areas darker and the light areas lighter and that should help.
Absolutely, but I keep chickening out before I get there :) Ah well, it's a process; I only bought the tablet a few months ago and haven't done too many thing with it yet.

Same here, but with a 1050. My monitors are "only" 1080p and I don't buy games the hour they come out, so
-
@kazitor Can that support every game you own on maximum graphics?
-
@pie_flavor More or less. The ones that need some settings turned down don't suffer.
-
@kazitor Right. I'm saying my 1060 can run every game in my library on maximum settings.

I just open it every so often to update the drivers and otherwise it gets ignored.I use it for two things: driver updates and game profiles. Problem is, to use any function of the program there is mandatory login, even if there is no fucking reason for it. Why do I have to have an account and log in to update my fucking drivers? Fuck Nvidia and fuck their entire user-hostile model. Also, the program likes forgetting my login status, adding to the annoyance. Fuck Nvidia.
