No ...
I take it you've never been to an Indian wedding. They're… intense, and very very loud even before they start letting off loads of fireworks.

The level of noise is unreal. I've been to Indian weddings all my life and still not used to it.

Ah, so going to a heavy metal concert would be like giving your ears a comforting massage... got it.

Status: Not looking forward to tomorrow's shenanigans. First there will be some lessons (no worries there), then we'll try to give every pupil at our school access to our new messenger system (because WhatsApp and similar are verboten)
While the actual features for pupils and teachers are impressive, the admin side still needs some work. Obviously no one on the developer's side ever thought of: "How would a hypothetical admin and his staff go about rolling this out to a whole school?"
Basically, every pupil needs a unique one-time key to register at the site. Creating and handing out said keys will be my task tomorrow.
This means:
- Importing all the pupils (done by uploading an Excel file. That's the least problematic part).
- Filter that huge list by one class at a time
- select all pupils from that class, create a PDF for that class. Said PDF contains one page for each pupil with instructions, his/her name and the registry key.
- Print that PDF
- Put the printed paper into an envelope and give that to the class teacher to distribute.
Now, you may ask, why not print all pupils at once? Because the created PDF only contains the name and key. There's no mention of the class anywhere.
Also, we have ~1700 pupils.
-
@Rhywden so do it in a known order and don't mess up the order.
-
A reference image to help you identify what group someone belongs to
-
@Rhywden Oh, and one more thing which I've already given them an earful about: There's no way to simply put somebody into a group. You can only invite them into a group.
One person at a time. From a dropdown menu.
You can imagine how overjoyed I was when I tried to create an "important and immediate announcements" group for all the teachers and discovered that. We have 150 teachers.
Said group is intended for stuff like: "Yes, we know, the server is down and you cannot login to school PCs in house 3 and 5, you don't need to tell us." Or: "The server is up again, everything's fine again" on a Friday afternoon - so that my colleagues know they can use the stuff again on Monday (instead of preparing for another outage).
-
@anonymous234 There's no C64 on that. Heathen.

Or PC. I've been playing PC games since before I could read, and I was reading at age 5. That was on an old IBM PC (8086, 4.77 MHz processor, 5 1/4" floppies and all)

@Benjamin-Hall Not to mention the Amiga 500 or Atari ST ;)

@Tsaukpaetra Nah, just acted awkward.
It's not like it'd be much of a statement. I'm fat too.

Knowing how these things tend to work, they're probably already in an order. Alphabetic order.

It is all about me after all.

@anonymous234 Is this supposed to be the first game console you owned? Because I had a GameBoy Advance SP, and that's not even on the list.
Although my first gaming machine ever was a Windows 95 machine I had to reboot in MS DOS mode to play Busytown.
-
My First ever video game in my entire life was playing Dangerous Dave on a shared MSDOS PC at school. This was around 1995. I have no idea what generation I'm supposed to belong to.

Multiple times a day
-
@ben_lubar said in The Official Status Thread:

Puts me in Gen X, because we couldn't afford current generation hardware
-
@Jaloopa sounds accurate.

They were not particularly great; I was more interested in programming the machine itself, as that seemed to me to be the grandest game of all. I think I got that right… ;)
-
The first game I can recall playing was called Cabal. After that, probably Doom.

I briefly had a Sega Genesis, and then I had an Xbox 360 throughout college which red-ringed shortly after graduating. Otherwise I've always been part of the PC Master Race.
-
The first game console I had was a Gameboy Color, while my cousins had a SNES... I actually didn't have a home console until around university age, when my parents decided a Wii would be fun.

Fun facts:
- There are more doughnut shops per capita in Canada than anywhere else on the planet.
- Canadians eat more doughnuts than any other country's citizens.

Nah, that'd be silly.Don't know how chrome works on touch-enabled chromebooks, but on Windows, it runs like ass.
Give it 4 liters of PEG-3350 with KCl, NaHCO3 and NaCl, and its ass will run very fast indeed.

It was my dad's. I could fairly consistently play it to a stalemate, and occasionally win, on the easy level, because it had the stupidest end game you can possibly imagine. No matter what pieces it had left, it would chase you around the board with its king.

Anyway, who wants to help me move this weekend?
Status: Tired and sore. Moving partly done. Got everything out of the old place and into the new one. Got a few things out of storage and started helping my daughter move out of her apartment. Next weekend is renting a truck and pulling more stuff out of storage (a bed with a real mattress instead of an air mattress on the floor!!!) and the rest of my daughter's stuff. Looking forward to having stuff in my apartment; not looking forward to moving it.
Next step, getting internet service. Comcast I called my beloved regional ISP, but the best they can do in my location is 20% of the speed at 120% of the price; not having to deal with Comcast is worth a lot, but not that much.

@pie_flavor This is why you either shave all the facial hair or grow a full on beard. Any form of mix and match always seems off.
