@PJH is it the normal Ubuntu 18.04 LTS for desktops?
-
@sockpuppet7 yup - that's my desktop at work, logging into it from home.
And that's the default
MOTD
- I've not changed it, since I normally don't notice it anyway.
-
It occurs to me that the five-year thing is semi-reasonable, unless LTS is supposed to have a longer lifespan than that.
The two-year thing does sound a bit , or maybe it's just atrociously phrased. (But if so, it's so atrociously phrased that it counts as a anyway.)

@TimeBandit An update to enable restarting when Ubuntu feels like it will become available on 2019-07-12.

I read that as an awkward "Hey these are going out of support before your OS. Before that happens you can update to a replacement package that isn't available yet"
-

The best part is that Ubuntu 18.04 goes out of support in April 2023 too.

And yes, that is a headless AMD server (installed TODAY, no less) telling me about an Intel vulnerability and some GUI programs.

30 updates are security updates.By the way, you might want to deal with that, especially since you probably run JavaScript in your web browser and there have been POCs of exploiting other Intel CPU bugs from a webpage.

Who says Linux isn't user-friendly?
-
@Zerosquare Well, that's from a BSD-based dist, and we all know those hate user-friendliness. At least based off the most popular (fruit-based) BSD dist.

I mean, root is not a user you should be friendly to. Root's kind of a dick.

Linux is user friendly... It's just selective about who its friends are.
