Any of you from India?
-
I need someone to proxy buy (or I'll buy it off Amazon.in and have it shipped to you, whatever) a Samsung Z4 (that'll be Tizen) and ship it to me for review purposes. I'll throw in some extra americabucks above and beyond for the trouble.
The only other way I can get my hands on one involves paying double to some nut on fleabay.
I'll also link the review podcast when it comes out.
We do in depth scientific usability testing and actually daily drive the phone across several people.
-
I think @stillwater is Indian and lives there
-
@weng If you make it
COMPLAIN
at you I'll raise a statue in your honor.
-
-
-
@Weng Oh man I'd love to help but the nearest anything-shipping-related is 50 miles away and International shipping is fucky AF where I live. sorry :/
-
Is this version available only in India? What's the backstory here?
-
@stillwater don't you have home deliveries in India?

No, they have home pick-up.
-
@gąska said in Any of you from India?:
@stillwater don't you have home deliveries in India?
Technically yes. But certain parts have very very few deliveries so the delivery folks ask us to come pick up the package from the collection hubs instead, which are usually quite far.
-
@stillwater As far as I can tell, they don't even sell it in Korea.
-
@heterodox Each of us yanks our SIM out of our regular phone and carries nothing but the test device for a week.

Looks like it's a cheap af phone made just for the sake of it.

Well, gotta feed em all!

@stillwater In this case, the phone doesn't matter, we're after the OS.
Which is, naturally, only available on this one phone.

Maybe @NeighborhoodButcher could be of some help then? I'm not caught up on the thread to know if he still works there / with it.

But from previous investigations, whoever was using the account didn't actually post from there.

I know a guy who lives in India. Could ask him if he's OK with buying a phone for an online acquaintance of a casual acquaintance (I don't know him that well)

Nope, I've left that dumpsterfire long time ago.
@Weng you can download the OS from http://download.tizen.org/releases/

The phone is ~$84USD, so the eBay listing is $170ish? This seems like a lot of trouble to go through to save less than $84.

Or (from most recent data) using American proxies. When I last looked (when we were on ) France popped up.
-
Also, why would anyone want that piece of shit OS?

He could possibly be posting from work and depending on where he is VPN'd to it drops his traffic out in various places.

The IPs that NodeBB associates are from San Diego and Philadelphia from a variety of ISPs.

India? Samsung?
Given the size of Samsung in India, is there really any difference?
-

To make fun of it on the Internet.
-
@polygeekery I was unaware that shipping in India was a garbage fire.
I have items procured in Europe and Japan forwarded to me fairly regularly (though in Japan there are literally specialist companies that do it)
-
Think I just managed to score one trans-shipping through work.
We'll see...

That's how I got my really good quality Godzilla. You gotta go to Japan for the good shit.

India? Samsung?
The insult was certainly directed to Samsung's OS. When we had a "top threads" on the forum, the most popular one was @NeighborhoodButcher complaining about it.
Here is the link:

BTW I have to point out since I'm an insufferable prick, what you're actually asking for here isn't if a person is from India, but whether a person would be willing to buy and ship a product from India.
If you had actually asked the question you want an answer to, you might find a non-Indian who is currently in India willing to ship it and not waste the time of people who are from India but no longer live there for whatever reason.
-
@blakeyrat The odds of someone transiting India are prettymuch infintessimally small, but being that this place is full of programmers and it follows that at least some of them would be there.
And then there are expats who are just fucked for clicking in here.
I get your point, though.
-
@weng What about people that never been to India and read this anyway, wasting their own time? Did you think about those? Huh?
-
@weng Just a pet peeve of mine. People who summarize the question they're asking with an entirely different and mostly-unrelated question.
-
-
@nagesh for all we know, we could've just pretended. @stillwater has never seen you over there, so we can't be sure.

@Nagesh is @stillwater 's secret identity! It all makes sense now!
-
@stillwater said in Any of you from India?:
European countries and Japan are first world countries.India is not.
Several European countries are, several were second-world, and a good number are third-world. Japan is first-world, India is third-world leaning at some points to second-world and at others to first-world. (click)
-
@gurth IMO first world is WHERE IHDI >= 0.8
-
@stillwater @Gurth Technically:
1st world: those opposed to the soviet union
2nd world: those allied with/puppets of the soviet union
3rd world: those in whose territory the 1st and 2nd world fought, those used as proxy combatants. Now, 1st world == rich and "stable", 3rd world = "poor and corrupt", and 2nd world doesn't exist as a term anymore.
-
The phone is here.
DHL brought me a phone from India faster than UPS can bring me... Anything from California.
