That's the boot up time for Windows 2000 Pro? 37 seconds!?! Why don't modern OSes boot that quickly any more? And programs! He clicked the game icon, was at the menu 35 seconds later, messed around in the menu a bit, and then loaded into a level in 26 seconds. Opening any M$ Office program takes longer than all of that combined!

@djls45 I love the wind.

They do?

You have a slow-ass computer. I just timed MS Word: 4 seconds to blinking cursor.
-
@boomzilla He tested it on an LCD monitor first, but when he turned the machine on, it flew to the other side of the room.

From sleep or maybe hibernate. A cold boot for Windows 7 Enterprise took over five minutes to get to the account login screen, I entered my password, and then it took another 2 minutes to get to the desktop. Maybe my work laptop has a bunch of boot-time and startup stuff slipped in, but my personal Win7Pro laptop takes nearly as long.

Before or after you've already opened it and loaded everything into RAM? First-time opening after a cold boot is sssslllllllllllllloooooowwwwwwww.

@djls45 "Andy giveth, and Bill taketh away." Andy Grove is dead now, and Bill Gates has been gone from Microsoft for years and years, but the principle remains as true today as it ever was.

That was the first time. The second was about 1.5s.
You seriously have a broken computer.

I'm assuming you're talking about on hard drives? My system boots in like 10 seconds from SSD with fast boot disabled both in the OS and in the UEFI BIOS. I can't speak for games though as there have been literally zero modern hardware-demanding games that interest me, aside from perhaps QUBE 2 which also loads in 5 seconds but I don't know how demanding it really is at max settings.

Maybe so. What do you think?
This is a Lenovo T450.
-
@djls45 I have a Lenovo T440 in which I replaced the hard disk with an SSD; a restart (so no hibernate or fast boot tricks going on) of my weeks-old Windows 10 install took 35s, including logging in and opening my browser again. So you really want to check your storage, startup stuff, etc.

I think you have a broken computer. Not sure why you think that screenshot would change my opinion.

Holy shit, my 10-year-old IBM T42 units with single-core processors on spinning rust don't even take that long!

Of course, I haven't had a Windows machine at work in a long long time, but they often (as I've observed cow-orkers complaining) take forever to be useful between the encryption and security/anti-virus stuff. Obviously, SSD vs spinning disk is going to make a huge difference too.

encryption and security/anti-virus
That may be it. Our IT has Symantec and BitLocker on it, and I can't update the startup items without it resetting into diagnostic safe mode for me to enter the BitLocker key.

My Chromebook can do a cold boot in like 5 or 6 seconds.

Seems rather slow.
