OK
@Lorne-Kates I didn't restart the server, since the change is in a client-side script, but you should be able to just do a hard refresh and get the fix.

What a coincidence, I just came in here to post that I'm attempting to compile gStreamer and getting the following message:
configure: No package 'gstreamer-1.0' found configure: error: no gstreamer-1.0 >= 1.15.0.1 (GStreamer) found configure failed
Of course it wasn't found, you're compiling it!

@dkf said in The Official Status Thread:
Sometimes the UDP packets my code is receiving are arriving 4 bytes short. No idea why. I've checked everything I can think of and I still can't spot what it might be. I know for sure it isn't some kind of deep packet inspection shit because this is still occurring with the sending hardware connected by a direct cable. Also it's only happening randomly. (I'm always using the same size of receive buffer; that's not itβ¦)
Well, we found it. Firstly, my code was 100% correct and had been all week. It turns out that that the short packets were only ever due to the packet resend code which only kicked in when UDP packets were dropped. I believe the packets were being dropped due to the network being processing ARP packets instead (entirely possible) which was an event kicked off by the handshake at the startup of the protocol. Because there were dropped packets, the protocol recovered and asked for them again and the bug (a stupid one-liner masking a second stupid one-liner) then chopped the packet one word short, which was then delivered carefully to my code which promptly (and correctly) asked WTF was going on.
My theory is that the original Python code that didn't have the problem was so slow that all that shit had long finished by the time the protocol core got busy. By contrast, the C++ code (and some Java code written by a colleague that had the same problem and which is currently broken for other unimportant reasons) was fast enough to push the remote hardware into its buggy mode. (That was exacerbated by needing to switch which process's socket to deliver the data to, which is what was triggering the ARP tomfoolery.)
All in all, an evil bug with fun race conditions, random network conditioning, a trivial pair of co-masking off-by-one errors (in a DMA-handling interrupt on a system that doesn't support attaching a debugger for good technical reasons) and some slow-ass code as a baseline that didn't trigger the issue in the first place has given me a week of frustration and looking in the wrong place. :(

Ah, apparently software graphics cards are always 100% ineligible to be used by UE4, unless you force the issue with a .ini file setting hidden in
WindowsNoEditor\%Game%\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini
.In other news, We now have a completely standalone version of the game, capable of running everything but the Azure Blob Storage things completely offline, based off of the latest nightly.
This includes the client, server, a copy of the dev database, website, master server, chat server, and all the prerequisites needed in case you really are offline and can't download DirectX 2010 redistributables or something.
All weighing in at a measly 13.1 GB (14,135,559,834 bytes).
If I split it into two disks, I can even have the server portion on one and the game proper on another still.

@benjamin-hall Yeah, it really depends on what you're doing, but for the most part, WPF works better. Assuming you don't try to figure out how to host a directx panel under it.
-
@magus Which is how I'm doing my game. I don't want to use a bad UI framework I don't know how to use, so UWP is far easier.

@magus No danger of that, thankfully. I've never really been into game development. This is a tool for (table-top) RPG setting designers.

I find sitting on ones ass to be much less brutal than the alternatives, such as sitting on oneβs ankles or sitting on oneβs head. The ass is really designed quite well for sitting, all things considered.

After sourcing a 520F STFM case it all works pretty well now. Just need to get an Atari ST compatible mouse (I modded an amiga mouse to work, but it looks out of place) and replace the case badge with the original. I removed the metal shielding from the top which was pitted to hell. I have a can of car spray paint, so I might sand off the rust and then repray the bottom shielding and do the same for the floppy disc.
I need a new Atari ST key cap thing for the F10 button, and I need to give it a clean with some alcohol / backing soda to get the scuffs off. I can't be arsed retro-brighting it, it is a lot of work and if you get it a bit wrong the results can look worse than leaving it looking a little brown.

I bust my ass for a week straight writing performance tests, running performance tests, analyzing the results, tweaking application configuration, running more performance tests... in the beginning it looked like we were going to need two additional frontend servers, but after I bumped memory usage on those servers their CPU usage dropped to reasonable levels, so:
: "Honestly, I think we could get by on no infrastructure add. Our user base is increasing by 300%, we tested at 800% of our current volume, and things were... good. If we have to ask for something, though, I'd ask for the two additional frontend servers just in case."
* goes to another office (with no Internet connectivity) to work out some network issues*[PM 1]: "Let's ask for ten more servers, all of different types, so the current nightmare of connectivity changes, installation, and patching worsens to the maximum extent possible."
[PM 2]: "Sounds good."
: "WHAT DID YOU--"I'm so frustrated and unhappy right now. My lead asked me to run a different set of performance tests over the weekend ("I'll owe you one"), I just... didn't respond. What would be the fucking point?

Hmm. I have been experiencing a higher rate of of pressure headaches than normal...
I'll see about adding this to the daily monitors, apparently there aren't really any symptoms for this.
Another interesting note is that the station claimed I was under-hydrated, though I make sure to drink plenty of water regularly (18 ounces or so morning and night post meal, and a few cups throughout the day).

That's genuine see-a-doctor stuff. There are cheap drugs for this sort of thing that are effective in most people. (Also, a simple blood pressure monitor would let you check this once a week. They're really easy devices to use, but you need to bear in mind that there's daily variation to take into account.)

I have a lot of trouble with that because I have no sense of thirst. By the time I feel thirsty, I'm severely dehydrated.
So I do the "Dual Powerade Plan", which is something I made up, but before I go to bed I check the fridge and if I haven't dranked at least 2 of those 20oz Powerades, I drink one before bed. Fortunately Powerade is pretty cheap so it's not bankrupting me or anything.

Computer locked up, screen went blank and audio froze ("HNGGGGGGGGGGGGG"). Had to power off. Weird. It's happened before, probably not more than once a month but of course obeying Murphy's mandate that it be the worst time to do so. I wonder if it's at all diagnostically significant that internal audio/external video lock up at the same time or if that's to be expected since audio and video must interact to sync.
-
@e4tmyl33t It used to be named Joylent, but the company that owns the Soylent trademark didn't like that.

Status: Was trying to get cemu to work on a 4k screen for a while, but for some reason it was locked to 30fps and I was unable to figure out why. Then I think to check the display settings, and it's set to 30hz. Now that can't be right, because I've played on that screen before. I change the display quality to 2k, and it stays 30hz, so I switch it back because clearly that's not the answer, and now it's 60hz. ?????

@heterodox and did it work? It's much more common for level.dat to be corrupted than any region files.
