Poll: next month's Stupid Thread of the Month?
-
Continuing the discussion from The Official Likes Thread - Fewer than 4294967277 posts left!:
Do we have a pre-meeting to plan the meeting to decide an actionable for next month's Stupid Thread of the Month?
No, but we could take a poll.
Should we have a poll over this?
- yes
- no
- FILE_NOT_FOUND
-
Sometimes it's hard to choose.
-
We need a @FILE_NOT_FOUND_PollBot who trawls for polls and always votes FILE_NOT_FOUND.
-
Great idea. Once we automate all of our stupid behaviors, we can just sit back and watch the forum troll itself.

Likes were automated long ago. Others automated the responding with bots... and I just automated the reading part (posted script over in Likes Topic). There really is nothing more to accomplish here.
-
"Frist!" posts haven't been automated yet....

"Frist!" posts haven't been automated yet....
And there's no grammar bot, no godwin bot, no sci-fi reference bot...
-
-
apparently not, do you want to make it one?
-
This thread is one week earlier..
-
Can the next month's stupid thread of the month be one or more of:
- This thread
- An old thread with very little content (before next month, that is)
- Whatever article thread comes out first next month
- A thread where we post screenshots of other threads
- Other
-
A thread where we post screenshots of other threads
that already happens, everyone posts screenshots of meta.d
- because dicsourse cross-forum oneboxing is asstastic
- because the post will probably be deleted before everyone gets a chance to go see it live
-
no sci-fi reference bot
You mean no Monty Python reference bot.
NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!
-
An "edit your post so the replies to it make no sense" thread!
-
You put a placeholder in and someone replies to you, creatively, in either the positive or the negative. Then you get to go back and edit it to make their reply amusing.

We need an H2G2bot. It could alternatively be called Marvin and be relied upon to be very depressed at any given moment.
-
-
Why would we need one of those when we already have a markov chain bot called @ben_lubar?
-
what source would you want to use for the chains?
-
what source would you want to use for the chains?
-
... I could swing that.
i've always wanted to build a markov chain generator using JS
character or word based, and how long should the chains be?
-
character or word based, and how long should the chains be?
Whatever floats your boat, as long as it does not produce “Dwarf Fortress Dwarf Fortress Dwarf Fortress Dwarf Fortress <huge image> Dwarf Fortress Dwarf Fortress”
-
pretty sure that's the most realistic chain you could get out of a ben_lubar seeding.
-
i don't think i could avoid it spitting that out no matter what settings i used.
-
Why not use blog.codinghorror.com as the seed?
doing it wrong doing it wrong doing it wrong
-
Don't you already have your answer then?
-
An "edit your post so the replies to it make no sense" thread!
This is when quoting saves you (as a replier).
-
character or word based, and how long should the chains be?
Word-based, definitely--it should actually have English words. Chain length should be all over the place.
Please no lojban, though. How would you tell the difference between real lojban and something a Markov chain produced?
-
I think the Markov chain needs to be seeded with all of coding horror's forum and blog posts, then hooked up to @CodingHorrorBot.
-
@mott555 Is Doing It Wrong™<t3389p29>
-
Actually, reading the bot's text...it's possible it's already a Markov bot.
-
It could alternatively be called Marvin and be relied upon to be very depressed at any given moment.
Now that's an idea....
-

But don't forget lolcat memes to sprinkle in. That may be the final nail that breaks the Turing Test's back.
-
We can seed in ICanHazCheezburger but weight it somewhat low, so a few pop up every now and then.
-
If we're feeding by the blog, I'm sure there are plenty of things in there that could be used. The adventurous chainer could also include his local posts. Some special handling to determine when to throw in a meme and some randomization and viola!
-
Now that's an idea....
OH GOD I'M SO DEPRESSED.
I'm not getting you down at all, am I?
-
I calculated your chance of survival. I'm not sure if you'll like it.

I calculated your chance of survival. I'm not sure if you'll like it.
You're not that depressingly stupid computer that's always cheerful, are you?
-
We could have a contest. Have a few different users come up with their own @MarkovBot and let them loose on a single thread. Set up some judges to choose which one was the best or most interesting, and hand out badges as a reward.
-
Never tell me the odds.
-
But did you shoot Greedo first?
-
There is no who shot first. Greedo didn't even fire.
-
Han shot first.
the movie where it appears that gredo did was accidentally edited wrong so that section of film was playing backwards.
this is all there is to that.

involuntary muscle reflex on death. Gredo did have his gun drawn and was im position to fire, so that makes sense.
the remake showed the fire, but in the wroing order the original cut that out for plot reasons.
i cn explain it!

Whoops, I accidentally seeded it with my apt log. Let's see... Where's dwarf fortress's output.log?

Darths and Droids is currently in a HILARIOUS place leading directly from that scene.
