Status: mother's desktop has a TPLink USB Wi-Fi adapter, mostly because the built-in RealTek is even crappier. It apparently has a system crippling bug in the driver that crashes the entire network subsystem (or whatever), so hard that Chrome froze and Task Manager didn't finish loading (the initial performance stats ticked almost once, but never again, such that even the Details tab didn't even get any items in the list).
And she didn't think to mention it or ask for help. This despite it happening upwards of three times per day to the point where she's started just force powering it off (by holding the power button).
What even?!?!

Huh, apparently my laptop has only ever installed 5 updates...
What, does it "forget" all the prior updates when it does a "Feature update"? Figures, since it's actually reinstalling Windows after all...

If I had any power over what I use, I wouldn't use it. But I don't have that power. Most people don't. We all get forced into using a program with the worst usability in the world by design, which specifically rejects attempts to improve usability and interoperability and integration with other tooling, and is designed by someone who feels about users exactly the same way blakey feels about git.
Yet the sheer quantity of integration with IDEs and online services that exists makes me wonder: can integration be truly hard when it is so common? Most complaints I've seen have assumed that it should be doing things which it definitely doesn't do, or that it is other than what it is. Sometimes the deep issue lies elsewhere, in the world-models in our minds.
Of course, there's also the usability of the
git
program interface itself. That's just shitty for anything and anyone that doesn't memorise full commit IDs because everyone likes remembering long random strings.

Status: TIL PowerShell doesn't need a drive mapping for its current directory.
Edit: But it still requires at least a server and share name:

That tendency of users has driven me crazy for 13 years as an admin. Heard today from a tech guy who heard from a user in passing that a certain integration hasn't been working for months in a T&D environment. We HAVE a really easy reporting procedure for these types of issues. It would probably take a few minutes at most to fix, and if it didn't, it could be a bigger issue that we'd eventually see in production. It's a good thing to bother us for this.
Help us help you.

Or realising that it's badly suited to the type of environment most of us use at work. It doesn't matter that it can work offline when I use source control either from a computer with a wired connection or from remoting into that computer. It does matter that common workflows like checking in code so others can see it have twice as many steps

I can find a video of a game where the main character is an orphan and she's being tormented by her cyborg widow mother (it's complicated) without scrolling at all while I compose this reply.

My "favorite" is when Halloween and Christmas overlap in the stores.

At least you don't have an additional children targeted festivity in between those two ...
Christmas can only come when Sinterklaas (december 6th) is gone (back to Spain as the story goes).

Here (near Dallas) most of the places didn't start until after Thanksgiving, as $deity and Nature intended.

Well, GLaDOS is definitely Cave Johnson's wife, and Chell had a very high ranking father in the company, and none of the other executives were named...

I assumed the "now little Caroline is in here too" line in the end credits meant Caroline was pregnant at some point.

@ben_lubar that doesn't mean Caroline is GLaDOS

That part is explicitly said. When you're leaving the underground, Cave Johnson says that if the machine isn't finished by the time he dies, Caroline should be put into the machine instead. Then, at the end of the game, GLaDOS feels a strong emotion and that allows her to find where Caroline is located in her brain and delete Caroline.

Speaking of... Dorram the sidebar is really going today! I'm walking with my usual accuracy and chat or hamburger keeps sliding out!
Here's a hint for gesture detection programming: if the touch In-N-Out moved less than 5em, they're probably not trying to drag.

@tsaukpaetra I used to be able to drag diagonally towards the sidebar to prevent any funniness. Now that just opens chat.

I'd replay it to find out but the thought of tolerating even one second of Stephen Merchant's horrible shtick sends shivers up my spine.

@blakeyrat God. Wheatley was so fucking annoying. About on the level of Jar Jar Binks. Even the other personality cores were nice, but Wheatley ruined the experience.
Cave Johnson saved it, though. I played custom levels just so I could hear more of his ridiculousness at the beginning of them. Chariots!

@pie_flavor The funny thing is I loved Stephen Merchant in Extras, but that show used him in measured quantities and a lot of his gags weren't dialog based. Stephen Merchant playing a character in a sitcom is a lot different than Stephen Merchant doing annoying shtick for literally 45 minutes with no breaks.
-
@pleegwat Likely because it grabs the lower-quality file to start playback immediately while it buffers the higher-quality one, and then it's either over or it forgets to make the switch.
