@anonymous234 I just hope they don't make a third one too soon...

So it turns out the problem with my phone was that I had enabled developer mode. For some reason, that can make Google Play Services hold a persistent wake-lock and drain the battery real fast. Before turning developer mode off: a full charge lasted about 6 hours, even if the screen was off. Now? 20 hours with a normal amount of use.
-
@benjamin-hall Is there maybe some setting in developer mode that you turned on? I've got dev mode enabled but nothing else turned on in the menu and my battery holds a charge like normal.

@pie_flavor isn't The Mist just one movie? How do you binge one movie?

No, it's a show now. Pretty decent, too, though I have a few issues with it I could whine about if I wanted.

But Cars, one of the most boring concepts ever, gets like a dozen because it apparently makes shitloads of money because children are stupid and have bad taste.
The silly thing is, I've never noticed particularly high levels of Cars merch round here, so I don't know why they made so many of them.

I don't think so. Nothing that I care about anyway. It may also be specific to the Nexus 6 with this version of Android--i found others that had the same problem.

Status: Hoarseness still not completely gone. Had it for over a week now. And while the doctor said that he couldn't see any signs of a serious infection (no fever, no big inflammation, etc.), the sheer duration is a bit alarming.
Considering that my voice is kind of important for my job.Let's see what tomorrow rings. May have to call in sick once more if it persists - which kind of sucks for some of my pupils as an exam is around the corner. They know what's in it but it's always sub-optimal if their teacher isn't there to provide help in case of issues with the exam's tasks.

My wife's a huge Stephen King fan, and she discovered it not long ago (on Netflix) so we just recently watched it.

Status: Just had a visit from IT after filing a ticket yesterday. I could not access an internal site from my phone (the site in question allows users to register devices by MAC address to be whitelisted on a login-free network, for devices that don't support user+pass network login such as an Xbox). Apparently there were a few more levels of redirection that were supposed to happen, but they didn't. The culprit turned out to be the Chrome data saver, as only the last level of redirection was HTTPS and the first one was already internal, so it never completed.
I'm sure there's a here somewhere, but I'm having difficulty figuring out where.

Save early save often?

Aye, though in this case it was the first damn operation I was trying to do after opening the project.
It persisted through a reboot, although Windows only exploded the first time. Opening procmon showed it was trying to open a nonexistant file. Instead of 'F:\xxx\xxx\technology\default.ptf' it was trying to open 'C:\Users\name\xxx\xxx\technology\default.ptf'
All the paths looked good in the program's directory settings so I changed them all to something else and then back again. Works now

No. Stepsister carbonized bread onto the non-stick pan SO HARD this is the result after cleaning.
-
@tsaukpaetra My next guess was going to be that you left the pan for five seconds without watching it and the dog snatched whatever was cooking in it.
-
@tsaukpaetra Try heating up a bit of white vinegar in the pan. Should help loosen that.

Why would you guess that? I take care of my cookware.
Besides, my bitch can't jump that high....

STATUS: There's some kind of construction project going on across the small pond in my neighborhood. It involves what sounds like a two-stroke pump or motor, and it has been running 24/7 for most of the last week. The sound carries enough that I can hear it in my house with the windows shut loud enough that I have to run a fan to cover up the noise.
There's a couple diggers, some concrete conduit, and a large yellow floating pipe-like thing (looks like a fabric/plastic water pipe, several feet in diameter). Haven't seen any actual people working on it, but I've been gone during the daytime. No clue what they're doing, and no one's said anything on the neighborhood facebook group about it.
I just wish they'd stop the pump, at least at night.

Update: It loosened and helped remove the major carbon bits (so the pan is smooth-ish again), but there still remains a nice ugly brown stain on the pan. Oh well...

Status: A seven-day meal plan is a good thing to have, but the pricing difference from a five-day starts to make less sense when you arrive at the dining commons at a reasonable hour and there's no pasta in any of its three locations, the dish of the day is still breakfast, the two salad bars have been combined into one containing only the worst ingredients of each, the soups have been removed, the premade salads have been removed, the sausages have been replaced with hot dogs, the ice cream machine shuts down in front of you and starts smoking, the soda machine dispenses colored water, the sandwich bar is out of bread and borrowing the burger station's hamburger buns, and you still think 'at least this week we have knives'.
-
@gąska Pretty crazy when something so ubiquitous that other things get called 'this gen's zubat' doesn't show up.
-
@magus I only played first three gens, so the only Zubat I know is Zubat.

It looked exactly like a magnetic parts tray until I embiggened it, thought it was metallic swarf from a sump or something.

Vinegar is amazing for cleaning everything, and descaling kettles.
The other neat trick someone showed me is to boil a dishwasher tablet or two in the pan, that even removed burnt sugar.

When I got my new dishwasher I put one of my pans in there. You know how the underside of pans turns black over time due to spillage?
Yeah. That dishwasher along with the detergent managed to remove the cruft from four years completely after the second time in the dishwasher. I was moderately amazed.

Status: accidentally popped a SIM card out of its adapter when I was trying to get the adapter out of its adapter. Spent an hour looking for it, I can only assume it went into The Cat Dimension. So I've now spent $30 on a replacement (only $9 without tax and shipping). Lesson learned.

Exactly how I feel about this asinine (not made by me) AspNETUsers key that's an nvarchar(128) containing a GUID. Which doesn't even come close to needing that many (double wide!) characters...
