X-Thread: Are you working at Yahoo! these days?
Bite your tongue! Although I have had to work for companies on my "Companies I'd really rather not work for, but it's a paycheck" list, I haven't stooped that low.

@dcon Why the hell would anyone want that? The only people using Facebook are old.
Huh? My kids are young (at least, nobody who isn't still a teenager would call them old), and their existence revolves around Facebook. OTOH, I am indisputably old (well maybe not indisputably, but I'm in roughly the 75th percentile of the US age distribution), and I emphatically do NOT use Facebook.

@boomzilla And that's why they are not storing the pictures.
But aren't they storing the pictures that people upload?
So, couldn't one get ahold of the database. Leak it. Find the hash that matches and connect the account with the hash to the nude uploaded by someone else.
I mean, they could always have downloaded leaked nudes before, but now they have a way to make matches.
It will be "amusing" to see how many people try to do the upload / report dance but get it wrong and end up getting revenge on themselves.
Time to start uploading campaign pictures and company logos and reporting them.

I want that job.

I was given moderation rights on Okcupid a few years ago, and based on my experience, you don't want that job.
Nice to see we're not the only site using that form of promotion...

A friend of mine encountered a couple having sex on their lawn once (very visible to anyone around). He of course did the only mature thing and threw a few pinecones at them. This led to him being chased down the street by an angry naked guy with a hardon.

(1) Can't have a coincidence with just one thing.

And a butcher knife? (Ref: Dirty Harry.)
The Mayor: Callahan... I don't want any more trouble like you had last year in the Fillmore district. You understand? That's my policy.
Harry Callahan: Yeah, well, when an adult male is chasing a female with intent to commit rape, I shoot the bastard - that's my policy.
The Mayor: Intent? How'd you establish that?
Harry Callahan: When a naked man is chasing a woman through a dark alley with a butcher knife and a hard on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross.
[leaves]
The Mayor: I think he's got a point.

True, but in this case you have two things upon the first false positive:
- The initially flagged upload
- The posted image
-
@dcon My upcoming lawn is also dead. The grass is brown and the trees are without leaves. If only the bank would have been faster so I could have moved in sooner I could have prevented this tragedy!
...
Oh, right, the seasons are changing. Lawn will return to green in about 6 months. Carry on then!
-
@atazhaia
Besides, you're better off with a dead lawn anyway. You can saveso much moneyso many environments by not having to spend all that gasoline mowing the lawn.
-
@izzion The house also comes with a long driveway, so during winter I'll have to spend the gasoline moving the snow out of the way instead. :P Although I am right now trying to figure if a snow blower is a worthwile investment. Winters have been mild for a few years, but reports say they are turning and are going to become longer and snowier again. So if that's true: yes. If not, make do with manual labour will suffice.

They'd be able to immediately detect and block the worst of that. If someone else had already uploaded the image, there'd already be a matching hash of an image that wasn't blocked.

Also, they'll most likely validate the account to make sure that it indeed belongs to the real-life person it says it belongs to.
Which makes something like that a stunt you can pull exactly once. And you'll incur the wrath of a tech behemoth which then knows exactly where you live.
