@tsaukpaetra I assure you, you aren't going to bend an ATX motherboard enough to hurt it by lifting basic components by it.
I have hefted extended ATX server wankery around by the balls plenty of times.
Sure, but did it have two 4tb hard drives and a graphics card hanging off of it? Probably not.
-
@japonicus my avatar doesn't look left OR right. It's just with some accessories photoshopped on and then QArted to point to my Google+ profile.
-
@tsaukpaetra Yeah.
Or, well, not 4tb, but capacity doesn't have much mass.
Of course it wasn't a modern GPU with 300lbs of aluminum strapped to it.

Read the article for an explanation on why it puts a big string of numbers in the URL.

Because otherwise there wouldn't be data to make the right dots I suppose...

@tsaukpaetra That would be the idea, yes. Numbers that don't affect the URL in order to affect the encoded data.

They do affect certain websites like Google+, so mine goes to a redirect URL that puts my Google account ID in the URL fragment.

Status: Dear recruiters: if one of your requirements is for a candidate to be autistic, please put it in the "requirements" section.
I wonder if missing that when I sent my resume qualifies me for the job.

STATUS: Phone queue funtimes. Because $banks[0] are being slow I've put in a loan request from $banks[1] instead, but the automated response says they need more data from me and I want more data from them too, so trying to speed up the process.
First impression: $banks[0] has a better phone system with shorter wait times and queue status reports. I can only hear "We're doing everything to cut down your queue time. Thank you for waiting!" so many times after all.
Also, the tin roof outside my "laboratory" makes the rainfall very noticeable. In my office I hear nothing hinting at the weather.
-
Status: Dear recruiters: if I just sent you an email that I withdraw my application because I'm not autistic, don't send me a stock rejection message that says "you are not the right fit for the position at this time". I already know this, and I'm sure it won't change in the future.
"I am sorry for the disappointing news." What news? Do you think I'm some kind of autist who didn't figure out I won't get a job because I'm not autistic?
-
@gąska What, did you apply to work for Alex St. John?

- For taking notes, use a note-taking app. They auto-save.
- You could SAVE SHIT yourself. Who just leaves a window of important information there on the screen for hours without saving it?
Yes, yes. You may have missed the part where I said it was entirely my fault. I have note-taking apps. I was just taking notes at midnight completely zonked and wasn't entirely lucid enough for proper workflow. I still watched the presentation and took notes, which aided my understanding, so in the morning I was basically able to crunch out an outline of my presentation from memory.

The core business concepts go back into the 1960s; before that, computers were deeply experimental and didn't have much of a business model at all.
Wow that's not true. Why do you think the original I/O devices were punch card readers? Those cards existed before the computers did.

As expected, Edge on Android just uses Android's built in web rendering engine. Lame!
-
They can't even manage to apply all updates in one reboot ?
-
Deaths: far too many. And about twice as many restarts.
I'm actually kind of surprised that I was able to beat it, given how everyone was harping about how difficult the game is. There's a lot of (allegedly easier) games I can't beat.
-
So, apparently BIDS 2008 R2 has a little foible, wherein if you want to rename a package within a solution (say, because you copied in from a template / a similar package in another solution that you're stealing some of the work from), if you try to rename the package in the Solution Explorer without having the package open, it will fail with a file access error. Even though the directory the package is in isn't under source control yet, since this is a new project and I haven't checked in yet.
Status: About to chase the BIDS developers down a dark alley, pitchfork in hand.

LOL. This update isn't just a bunch of updates. It's a complete OS reinstall.

@maciejasjmj It's a difficult game, but it's incredibly fair and not very random. It's no Battletoads. Plus, the aesthetic just kind of makes you want to keep going!

@magus said in The Official Status Thread:

Eh. I wouldn't say it isn't random, a lot of the time your success with the boss heavily depends on how often you get the patterns you like, versus how often you get the patterns that let you score some free hits. And some of the patterns themselves can create unescapable situations.
-
@magus Slowbeef, who's basically the expert on Shmups, says the boss fights are actually designed very poorly. All the attacks can be dodged individually, but if the boss does attack C after attack A for example, you have to take a hit.
A well-designed game would allow you to beat it without ever taking a hit.

Eh, the aesthetic is the exact thing keeping me from playing it. I can't stand that "old-timey" cartoon look. I've seen a couple other people play it and I probably would enjoy it if it had a different art style, but to each their own.
-
@blakeyrat Yeah, there are definitely fights like that. Particularly the last boss. But I feel like it's not usually that bad. Admittedly maybe I was mostly just lucky, but it felt like those situations were rare.
-
Status: Why...?
Can anyone tell me what benefit this is giving?

@tsaukpaetra The benefit of getting random people who view the code comments to see a random broken MSDN page when MS inevitably breaks the way MSDN works again?

Status: Goddammit Windows!

@tsaukpaetra I'm less concerned about that and more concerned about the fact that you don't have file extension hiding disabled. Also, it's not lying - close Windows Explorer via task manager, delete Thumbs.db via shell, and reopen Explorer.

Chrome levels of HTML5 support! Yay! The only benefits of Edge are the other fripperies, so Android Edge could prove better than desktop Edge.

Looks like I had to manually check for one, even though it said that the automatic one was run about five minutes before I ran the manual one. Guess you just can't expect an ounce of reliability in update stuff anymore. Sad!
Edit: Looks exactly like the old one. 0/10.
Edit edit: Never mind, the Java update checker notification is equally spaced from the bottom and the side of the screen instead of being anchored to the side of the screen. Not sure whether I like the new one or the old one better.

The groundlings get nervous if at the end of File New Project they're handed a blank Visual Studio screen with no clearly visible place to start building. This is that clearly visible place.

I don't have any big problems with Edge on desktop, though. The warnings by some sites are a bit annoying, though.
Especially when the site in question works just fine anyway.
